According to a journal conducted by Kasman and Ali (2022) entitled “Literature Review
Factors Affecting Decision-Making and Career Planning: Environment, Experience and Skill”,
decisions are issued as a solution for a problem, and decision-making is a process of selecting
decisions with specific criteria. Those criteria could be considered as the factors, may be external
or internal, that a person considers in making a decision. It relates to the study’s objective to
analyze how factors influence someone’s decision-making and shows how people select which
work environment they would choose depending on the factors that they have already
considered. Effective decision-making could influence someone’s preference in terms of
choosing a career, which will also help in analyzing its benefits.

Title: LITERATURE REVIEW FACTORS AFFECTING DECISION MAKING AND CAREER

PLANNING: ENVIRONMENT, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL

Decision Making describes an individual's skills in determining or making decisions about his career life.
Decisions are the result of solving a problem that must be faced firmly. Decision-making is defined as
selecting decisions or policies based on specific criteria. This process includes two or more alternatives
because no decision will be taken if there is only one alternative.

Foreign Studies

Savioni, et al (2022) stated in their study’s findings that the decision-making process may
change concerning various variables. It may be related to personality, characteristics, anxiety
traits, attachment style, etc. Moreover, external factors such as other people’s advice may also
influence someone’s decision. This proves that there are factors that people consider to make a
certain decision. The study analyzes how those factors influence one’s decision, particularly in
choosing a work environment which is also part of someone’s life choices. In addition, students
also consider their current status which would be their basis for choosing a work environment. It
influences their preferences on whether they are capable of pursuing a certain career or if the
work would be beneficial for them. The career choice of the students is also influenced by the
level of their social status, financial resources, affordability, and future employability. (Ahmad, et
al., 2017)

Title: How to make big decisions: A cross-sectional study on the decision making process in
life choices

The decision-making process changes in relation to various variables, both personal (e.g.,
personality characteristics, anxiety traits, attachment style, etc.) and the type of choice that one
has to make (e.g., sentimental or work-related). The information provided in this study can be a
starting point for future research on decision making in life choices. In fact, there are several
aspects that can be investigated and that can be useful for greater knowledge of “naturalistic”/
life-relevant decision making, which have not been taken into consideration in the present study.
