THE HIGANTES FESTIVAL

I. Introduction

Higantes Festival is a well-known festival celebrated at Angono, Rizal.


Higantes is a colorful giant papier-mâché puppets that is made out of old
newspaper, rattan poles, and some wheat paste. Higantes comes from various
sizes and can be either male or female. The celebration usually occurs every
November 22 and ends on November 23. Higantes Festival is one of the
Philippines’ most awaited events because of how unique the locals of Angono
celebrate this festival.

II. Body

The Higantes Festival is a secular celebration initiated by the municipality


of Angono to express gratitude to it is patrons and clement in which the
parade of giant is held on Sunday before the town fest of November 23.

Based on Angono folklore the higante was


used as symbol of agrarian protest during
the waning years of the Spanish
colonization when Angono was hashing
the large track of life.

The word Higantes refers to the giant. It is a Spanish word that Filipino
used as the Philippines were under the Spanish regime during the birth of this
festival. It was more than 100 years ago that the Higantes festival was born.

III. Conclusion

It is quite fascinating to see how creative and dedicated filipinos are.


Each province has it is own way of viewing things. Given the case that we still
have differences in our beliefs, opinion, values, and culture, the respect
towards a specific festival can be observed.
