Preface
The Worship Committee of Wake Forest University School of Divinity
offers this songbook as a resource for worship music. It is a collection
of various hymns, spirituals, refrains, and other songs that we hope
to use as we gather for worship. The various songs of this compilation
are offered in seven categories, which reflect a five movement model
of worship, with additional attention given to the liturgical season
and communion: Gathering, Centering, Proclaiming, Seasonal,
Communion, Responding, and Sending.

We hope that this songbook will enrich your understanding of the

various roles that congregational singing plays in a worship service,
theologically, liturgically, and spiritually. Each song in this collection
can serve many purposes and there are many more songs that could
be meaningful in any service. Therefore, we offer this as a guide for
our worship. We hope that it will enrich your experience and that
it might help create room for careful and intentional reflection on
worship, both in the School of Divinity and beyond. Moreover, we
hope that this resource might, in the words of the School of Divinity
hymn, “draw us together and make us one.”
