Objective:
The experiment introduces the fundamental of PSpice and concentrates on analysis of some DC
circuits. A primary objective of the experiment is to become familiar with the use of PSpice and
to analyze circuit.The most important things for us to learn PSpice are to design and draw
simulated circuit and analyze simulation result.
• Analyze circuits with voltage source, current source and resistance using PSpice
• Create Netlist from given circuit diagrams
• Create Schematics from given circuit diagrams
• Experiment with output data and graphical representation
• Compare output results with theoretical calculation.

Problem 1: Create netlist and Schematics for the given diagram and compare output results with
theoretical calculation.

Theoretical Calculation:

Applying KCL at node 2(current in mA)-

𝑉2 −𝑉1 𝑉2 −0
+ =2
5 4 𝑉1-0=20V
Or, - 4𝑉1 +9𝑉2 =20 ---------(i) Or,𝑉1=20V

Or, - 80 +9𝑉2 =20

Or, 𝑉2 =13.33 V

Applying KCL at Node 3-

𝑉3 =-2 V
𝑉1 =20V
𝑉2 =13.33 V
𝑉3 =-2 V
𝑉1 −𝑉2
I(Ra)= =1.334 mA
5
𝑉2 −0
I(Rb)= =3.3325 mA
4

I(Rc)=2 mA (from node 3 to 2)

Creating Netlist:
Netlist code:

Output file:

From the above Netlist output for circuit example 1 we can see that,
• Current in Ra, Rb and Rc is respectively 1.333mA, 3.333mA, and 2mA(from node 3
to 2).
• Voltage at node 1, 2 and 3 is respectively 20V, 13.33V, and -2V
• The Voltage of node 3 is at lower potential that the ground connection.

Schematics Drawing:

Schematics Output:

From the above Schematic output for circuit problem 1 we can see that,
• Current in Ra, Rb and Rc is respectively 1.333mA, 3.333mA, and 2mA.
• Voltage at node 1, 2 and 3 is respectively 20V, 13.33V, and -2V
• The Voltage of node 3 is at lower potential that the ground connection.

Here, we observe that this circuit diagram is same as “Circuit problem 1”. We executed
schematic simulation in this part, which exactly repeats the previous Netlist output. So,
it confirms the success of experiments.

Problem 2:

Theoretical Calculation:
𝑉3 -0 =2V
Or, 𝑉3 =2V
Equation of supernode between node 1 and 2:
𝑉1 -𝑉2 =6V ----------(i)
Applying KCL in closed loop 121-
𝑉2 −2 𝑉2 −0 𝑉1 −0
+ + =1
7 5 10

Or,7 𝑉1 +24𝑉2 =90----------(ii)

Solving (i) and (ii)-----
𝑉1 =7.548 V
𝑉2 =1.548 V
𝑉3 =2V
𝑉2 −𝑉3
I(R1)= = -64.52 mA
7
𝑉2 −0
I(R2)= =309.68 mA
5
𝑉1 −0
I(R3)= =754.84 mA

Netlist Code

Netlist Output:

Schematics Drawing for Problem-2

Schematics output for Problem-2

• Current through R1, R2 and R3 is respectively 64.52mA, 309.68mA and 754.84mA.

• Voltage at node 1, 2 and 3 is respectively 7.548V, 1.548V, and 2V
Here, we can observe that the netlist and schematic output are exactly same. As, both are PSpice
based simulations, we are measuring currents and voltages at an ideal stage, which may not be
same when practically we go through these experiments. However, as our software-based
outputs are same, we can take decision that our experiment is successful.

Problem 3:

Netlist Code:
Netlist Output:

Schematics Output for Problem 3:

From the above outputs we can observe that,

• Voltage at node 1, 2 and 3 is respectively is 0V , 6.259V and 43.68V.

• Nodes 0 and 1 are basically same, as V1 has zero voltage and drops zero voltage.
• I(R1) =2.068 A, I(R2) = 10.92A, I(R3) =5.345 A, I(R4) =6.259 A, I(R5) = 8.735 A.

Discussion:
In this experiment,we can find that solving circuits with PSpice is easy to find voltage and
circuits across/through any element. We analyzed some dc circuits with the help of PSpice
simulating software in two ways , by creating netlist and schematics. And we compared the
results with theoretical calculations. And obviously for all cases ,we can see the results are
same. In practical case,reading from practical circuits results may contain some errors. But
PSpice helped in this way by solving these circuits with no error.So,we may conclude that our
output result has no error and thus we are satisfied and our experiment is done successfully.
