1. Our trust, success, and security is not in our bodies, but in God.
Jeremiah 17:5-7 This is what the LoRD says: "Cursed is the one
who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose
heart turns away from the LORD. He will be like a bush in the
wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell
in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence
is in him."

Zechariah 4:6 "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,"

says the LORDAlmighty.
Philippians 3:7-9 But whatever was to my profit I now consider
loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a
loss compared to the surpassinggreatness of knowing ChristJesus
my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them
rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a
righteousness of my own that comes from the law,but that which
is through faith in Christ-the righteousnessthat comesfrom God
and is by faith.

2. Taking control of what belongs to God is sin. Focusing on self is

~ idolatry.
Colossians 3:5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your
earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and
~
greed, which is idolatry.

Psalm 103:2-3,12-13 Praise the LORD, 0 my soul, and forget

~ not all his benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your
diseases. . . as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed
our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his
~ children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
1John 1:8-9 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves
~ and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just and will forgive us our sins and purifYus from all unrighteousness.

3. The body belongs to God.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Don't you know that you yourselves are
God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys
~ God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred,
and you are that temple.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple

of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor
~ God with your body.

4. By an act of the will we are to give our bodies back to God.

. Romans 12: 1-2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's

mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to
God-this isyour spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer
3 to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing
of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's
will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.
I 5. Changing thinking is crucial.
Isaiah 55:8-9 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither
I are your ways my ways," declares the LORD."As the heavens are

higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and
my thoughts than your thoughts."
Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever
is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-
think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or
heard from me, or seen in me-put it into practice. And the God
of peace will be with you.

6. Pray before eating and give thanks, for what God has created is
good.
1 Timothy 4:4-5 For everything God created is good, and
nothing is to be rejected ifit is received with thanksgiving, because
it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

1 Timothy 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present

world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is
so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us
with everything for our enjoyment.

Ephesians 5:29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he
feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church.
