Talk about a dish you know how to cook. You should describe:
- What the ingredients are
- How it is cooked
- Other preparation you have to do
And say if you think this is an easy dish to cook or not, and why.
I'm going to describe a dish I cook all the time. It's called chicken jalfrezi.
It's made of chicken, chopped tomatoes, onion, garlic, green chilli and some Indian herbs and spices. To
make this dish, first I chop the onions, garlic and green chilli. Next, I fry them in a pan with the Indian
spices. Then, I add the chopped tomatoes and simmer everything for about 20 minutes. Finally, I add
cooked chicken and chopped coriander leaves and simmer for another 10 minutes. When the dish is
ready, I usually serve it with basmati rice or naan bread.
I think this dish is very easy to make. But if you want to make it the traditional way, it takes more time and
it's a bit more complicated. Personally, I don't have much time for cooking so I make it the quick way.

3 Describing a dish
Match the two halves of the sentences:
Look at the cue card and read the sample answer below it. Check your answers and underline any
other useful vocabulary.
It usually consists of fried eggs, bacon, sausages and mushrooms. It's normally served with fried bread
and baked beans in tomato sauce -- and it's eaten with plenty of ketchup or brown sauce. This is a very
popular dish in Britain so I guess it's absolutely delicious for many people. However, I find it a bit too
greasy. As you probably know, it's usually eaten for breakfast, but some people eat it at lunchtime too --
we call this a `brunch'.
I wouldn't recommend this dish for health-conscious visitors as it contains a lot of fat. I also wouldn't
recommend it for vegetarians or for people with a strict religious diet -- although you can order it without
the bacon if you want. For everyone else, I'd say "Try it!"
