The ever so familiar Tunku

Kurshiah College that we know
today used to be named the Malay
Girls College. The emergence of
Tunku Kurshiah College started
with the proposal of Dato’ Sheikh
Ahmad Al-Haji, a former member of
the Legislative Assembly of the
State and Federal, about an all-girls
residential school during the 1939
State Council Meeting.

The proposal aims to provide a

stable platform for girls who would
like to advance their studies
towards secondary and tertiary
education. Not only that, but the
establishment also presents an
incentive for Malay parents to
contribute a better education for
their daughters, thus a brighter
future.

In the beautiful month of October

in 1947, the first intake of 41
students from all over Malaya was
enrolled.
The numbers gradually increased
in the 1960s, by the 1970s the
numbers were up by 700.

In April 1962, the college moved to

a 22-acre site on Bukit Merbah,
Jalan Tunku Kurshiah, Seremban.
In honour of Tunku Ampuan Besar
Besar or the Queen of Negeri
Sembilan, and Tunku Kurshiah
binti Almarhum Tunku Besar
Burhanuddin, the first Seri Paduka
Baginda Raja Permaisuri, the MGC
was named as Tunku Kurshiah
College.

After nearly half a century, TKC

decided it was time to move into a
more spacious, better location.
The new premise is in Bandar
Enstek, Nilai which opened in
January 2013. The ceremony was
honoured with representatives of
the Old Girls Association (OGA).
The university-style campus offers
a fresh start for the Kurshiah Girls
to propel themselves with
tremendous strides into the global
world.

SAUJANA
62ND EDITION CONCEPT

UNITY THROUGH

Life is composed of ups and downs. In 2020, we went through a

lot of changes. Learning to get through them was difficult but
without these obstacles, struggles, and challenges, life wouldn't
have made much sense. The 62nd concept of Saujana, Unity
Through Hurdles and Triumphs proves that we can be stronger,
more compassionate, and more grateful when we strongly
believe in our capacity to persevere together. As when we're
together, we know what it's like to savor victory, both personally
and professionally.

KPPM’S SPEECH
YBrs. Dr. Habibah Abdul Rahim, Ketua Pengarah Pelajaran Malaysia

Akhir kata, saya menyeru semua pihak

termasuk pemimpin sekolah, guru, ibu bapa,
pihak berkepentingan dan agensi swasta untuk
sama-sama menjayakan agenda pendidikan
negara demi melahirkan generasi masyarakat
Malaysia yang cemerlang dan gemilang pada
masa akan datang.

SELAMAT MAJU JAYA

SBP DIRECTOR’S
SPEECH
En Aidie Jantan, Fully Residential School (SBP) Director

Walaupun perkembangan
media sosial mengakibatkan naskhah
bercetak semakin terpinggir, saya
percaya sebagai dokumentasi yang
bersifat rasmi, majalah sekolah akan
relevan sampai bila-bila.

Sekian, terima kasih.

PRINCIPAL’S
SPEECH
Pn Hjh Anismah M. Noh, Excellent Principal of Tunku Kurshiah College

Assalamualaikum W.B.T.

It is with greatest contentment to see yet another year come to life through the esteemed
Saujana magazine! I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the 2020 Saujana
Editorial Board and other parties involved for putting their upmost dedication in the
production of this magazine. I would also like to congratulate the team for being able to
place the 62nd edition of Saujana a step further from its past years, all by making the
traditional magazine a tad more interactive by actively placing QR codes on most pages
for the readers to explore and reminisce events and competitions that happened
throughout the year. A leap into the future indeed!

I would call 2020 a dark tunnel. The college faced a lot of challenges such as face-to-face
PdPr session having to be turned into ones conducted through Zoom or Google Meet.
However, from challenges like these, we get to learn new things and develop new
strengths – and I can proudly say that we are doing just fine! Of course, the last statement
could not have been said if it were not for the endless support and efforts from the OGA,
PIBG, teachers, staff and students.
That being said, a dark tunnel will always
have its end, a light at the end of it. It is with
greatest hope that the yet to be announced
SPM results of Xylix will serve as that light to
help wrap up 2020 with pride.

To finish, just like the 2020 Saujana Editorial

Board, I hope that the entire college can
continue to learn, plan, commit and deliver
with precision.

Thank you.
OGA PRESIDENT’S
SPEECH
Tan Sri Rafiah Salim, MGC/TKC Old Girls Association (OGA) President

Assalamualaikum W.B.T.
Before anything, I applaud the team for completing yet another outstanding
edition of the Saujana magazine! Looking back on 2020, COVID-19 proved to
be a challenge. I must say, the girls portrayed the silver lining well by proving
how we grew from these new challenges. I find this important as looking on
the bright side of things manages one to grow better and more effectively.

As the president of the MGC/TKC Old Girls Association, it is with highest hope
that the girls continue to preserve and strengthen the bond between the OGA
and the current girls living in the college, despite the large age barrier. After
all, the OGA’s main principle is to let the flow of sisterhood continue, even if
we all experienced Tunku Kurshiah College in different eras.

I also highly urge the girls to maintain Tunku Kurshiah College’s glory in both
academic and co-curricular aspects. The girls should continuously shoot for
the stars and strive to produce the best version of the institution. In addition,
the traditions that have long been practiced by the previous girls of the
college must be maintained because after all, they are what makes Tunku
Kurshiah College a step further from others.

Noting that, I hope that the dear

readers will get to benefit the 62nd
Edition of Saujana as a blossoming
medium to discover and learn
about my alma mater, Tunku
Kurshiah College. To wrap up, I
would once again like to
congratulate the Saujana 2020
team for producing the
masterpiece in your hands.

Thank you.
YDP PIBG’S
SPEECH
Dato’ Ahmad Nasharuddin Hamzah, YDP Parent Teacher Association (PIBG)

First and foremost, I am deeply grateful for being given the opportunity to say a few words
in alignment with the production of one of the college’s biggest glories.

Tunku Kurshiah College, simply, is a place to grow. Focused on polishing the girls’ unique
talents and discovering a few new ones along the way, the college undoubtedly never fails at
what it does best — birthing future leaders. These leaders, who excel in both their academic
and co-curiccular views, are also equipped with poise and a strong sense of leadership that
ensure success wherever they go.

In 2020, Tunku Kurshiah College faced challenges unbeknownst to the years before it.
However, the institution still managed to pull through, all by still maintaining its place at the
top. For instance, the college debuted Tunku Kurshiah Super Six or better known as TKSS, a
rugby tournament under the school name. The tournament, recieving a massive number of
participating teams, was a huge success with the college’s very own team, La Reine, earning
their spot as first runner up. In the future, if Allah wills it, it would be an honour for The
Parents and Teachers Association to contribute to an event like this again.

On that note, most of 2020 consisted of

online events and competitions. Nonetheless,
the girls never cut off their journey in
maintaining the shine on the college name
and prevailed. For example, the Research and
Discovery teams that represented the college
never stopped the cogs in their minds from
turning and producing new innovations, thus
managing to bring home the gold. I think this
truly proves that whatever the situation the
collegians are in, they will still manage to
make their way to the top.

To sum up all that has been said, it is with my

greatest pleasure for The Parents and
Teachers Association to play an active part in
letting the girls of the college continue to
reach massive heights and maintain their
pride as a member of Tunku Kurshiah
College.
HEADGIRL’S SPEECH
Raja Batrisyia Uzma Raja Ahmad Al’ Konee
Tunku Kurshiah College’s 2020 Headgirl

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

In the name of Allah, the most gracious and most merciful, I am honoured to have been
given the chance to write for this esteemed magazine. First and foremost, I would like to
extend my gratitude to the 2020 Saujana team for their endless efforts and sacrifices in
making this masterpiece, 62nd Edition of Saujana a huge success. Although the journey
might have been rough, I believe this publication will help us relive all the memories
including the virtual moments throughout the year. I must say that 2020 has been filled with
new words unlike any other, a year where online learning became the norm. Nevertheless, I
am immensely proud of every one of us that has given the best to make everything possible
despite the unprecedented events and still be able to carve numerous accomplishments.

As the Headgirl of 2020, I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Bonda,
teachers and parents for the amazing dedication and support and not to forget to all
students for their cooperation in making the year successful. I would not say that the journey
was easy but it was definitely one that I would cherish. I hope this prestigious institution
remains as a ground that nurtures women leaders and continues to develop a strong
character for the nation.

To my beloved juniors, you have yet to

learn that being in this college is not a
burden, but it is a privilege to all of you.
Take this opportunity to prepare
yourselves, embrace the challenge and
hardships throughout your high school
journey in TKC positively as it built your
inner strengths and values for the life
ahead. Always give your best in everything
that you do regardless of the obstacle you
might encounter. Stand together as a
strong team and remember to Keep The
Kurshiah Flag Flying High.

All the Best!

Thank you.
EDITORIAL TEACHER‘S
SPEECH
Sir Abd Fattah Jamaluddin, Editorial Teacher of SAUJANA 2020

The current pandemic has caused a lot of uncertainties especially to students

and educators. We have to adapt new norms and new strategies to achieve
our goals. This is what has been happening in TKC, specifically SAUJANA 2020
team. The school closure in 2020 had left us a limited opportunity to work like
the previous editorials team but we managed to overcome all the challenges
and achieved all our goals to make the 2020 edition a success.

SAUJANA 2020 is the success of the Students Editorial Board led by the chief
editor and all students involved. They had worked tirelessly finding solutions
in the midst of uncertainty.

The success of SAUJANA 2020 is also

the result of cooperation of Parents,
PIBG and our beloved Bonda
Pengetua. Special thanks to Puan
Hajjah Anismah Md Noh, Dato’
Nasharudin Hamzah, Mdm Ir. Sharifah
Azlina Raja Kamal Pasmah, Dr Haniza
Omar, Pn Nor Raba'ah Zakaria
and all the people who assisted the
SAUJANA 2020 team in the form of
ideas, energy, financial and moral
support. Without your support, it
would be an uphill battle for us to
materialise this edition.

As the teacher in charge of the

production of this edition, we hope
that this edition of SAUJANA will be a
memorable one. Kudos to
the team! You all did great.
CHIEF EDITOR’S
SPEECH
Damia Nourrys Faris , SAUJANA 2020’s Chief Editor

Assalamualaikum W.B.T.
Scheming through the years, producing a Saujana Magazine was never an easy feat —
and the 62nd Edition is no exception.

2020 surely managed to claim its name as a hurdle. It brought norms that were hard to
overcome. Nevertheless, the bond between collegians managed to shift those walls into
triumphs by always focusing on the silver lining of the situation. Hence, our team took
the liberty to present that concept in the 62nd Edition of Saujana, the idea of how unity
would birth achievements and success at the end of the day.

The team itself, too, has followed this concept. We’ve grown by facing hurdles together
— mainly those hurdles being photo snapping, article writing, information garnering,
page designing and funds hunting — and us too, at the end of the day have managed to
gain our little product to triumph over, which is the book in your hands at this very
moment. Each page you flip over to unveil would not have been made possible for not
the continuous teamwork among the committee members, teachers, parents and
alumni.

I am eternally grateful to the college for trusting me to lead the making of this year’s
Saujana magazine. However, flaws are inevitable and I would like to thank the Saujana
team for patching up those holes.

A big thank you to the every single collegian

as well, for being a part of the process — be
it a team member in crafting this magazine
or making an event a little more lively.

As a final bow, the 2020 Saujana Editorial

team hopes that this prideful magazine can
help make your look back on the past year
at least a teensy bit more effervescent
before you leap into 2021.

Keep the Kurshiah flag flying high!

GONE BUT NOT
FORGOTTEN THE PASSING OF MISS ASYIMA

Reported by Nur Sabrina

It was in the year 2017 when she first arrived at TKC. The new environment of a fully
girls school surely shocked her, but she didn’t let it stop her from teaching her
subject, English, passionately. Miss Asyima was also a dedicated librarian teacher
alongside Miss Wong during her years in TKC. Her students describe her as a fierce
yet a kind and caring teacher as she always wanted her students to learn and
understand English correctly in the best way possible.

Being such a hard working teacher, she gave her all,

not realising that she was overworking herself. On a
peaceful afternoon on the 2nd February, her passing
was announced due to a heart attack caused by a
burst capillary at the core of her brain. As a Malay
idiom goes ‘Harimau mati meninggalkan belang,
manusia mati meninggalkan nama’, Miss Asyima
surely will not be forgotten and will always be
remembered by the students of TKC for her teaching
and services here.

THE OGS ARE
GOING GREEN
TUNKU KURSHIAH COLLEGE OGA WALK-A-RUN

Reported by: Zara ‘Ayesha

Green wigs are back on trend! The

OGs are here again with the 3rd
edition of Tunku Kurshiah
College’s Walk-A-Run Carnival
located at the University of
Malaya, as a fundraiser for
“Tabung Kebajikan Murid-Murid
Tua MGC/TKC”.

This year’s theme was Go-Green

and the fashion enthusiasts were
set to show off their skills. Leaf-
printed shirts topped off with
green wigs, the OGs truly went all
out in proving they are all in for
going green.

The fellow OGs then sweat

themselves out in the 5km run
alongside the Zumba sessions,
busting out their moves. Apart
from getting fit, it was also a time
to get fat!
Food trucks were scattered
around the area and lured the
foodies in for a delicious
delight. There were mini-games
such as a rugby game played by
the Old Boys Association from
MCKK as well as frisbee and
relay matches.

The Tunku Kurshiah Wind

Orchestra kept the groove
going with their fantastic
performance and the new
official Kurshiah’s Cheerleading
team impressed the OGs with
their dance skills and cheer
songs. There is no doubt that
this reunion would surely be
awaited yet again in 2 years
time.

“Winning isn’t everything but participating,

sportsmanship and wanting to win sure is!”
- Haniza Omar, a fellow OGA member.
BROADCASTING
BRILLIANCE
INTERVIEW WITH DR. RABIAH AL-ADAWIYAH,
FORENSIC DENTISTRY SPECIALIST AND OLD GIRL

Can you share a little bit about yourself?

My name is Rabiah Al-adawiyah binti Rahmat and Adaw happens to be my batchname. I was born in
PPUKM, and now working there too! When I received the offer to enter TKC, I teared up as it wasn’t my first
choice of school but soon cheered up once I learned what a lucky gem I was to be accepted to such a
prestigious school. I became a conductor in TKWO and played the college song on the piano for every
formal assembly.

Alhamdulillah after SPM, I received a scholarship from Petronas and pursued engineering in UTP. However,
I realised that engineering was not my cup of tea and decided to apply for a dentistry diploma in Adelaide,
Australia. I recently finished my PhD in forensic dentistry and now continuing my life as a lecturer in UM
and a forensic dentist.

As of today, there are only seven experts in this field which is showing that forensics dentistry is
not very popular and exposed to Malaysians. How did you discover and got interested in this field?

At first, I became an oral surgeon and served in the Ministry of Health (MOH), but after the first three years
of serving, I didn’t feel attached to any department and began questioning my passion in the career. My
queries were answered when one of my senior officers asked me if I ever heard about forensic dentistry.

After some research, life on a dental chair has come to an end as I decided to delve further with forensic
dentistry. Hence, I decided to email the first forensics orthodontist in Malaysia and went to Universiti
Malaya (UM) to take a first look at the job, starting with testing myself if I could handle seeing horrible dead
bodies. The rest is simply history. One of the most memorable assignments I had was when I was assigned
to collect all the 43 Malaysian passengers’ dental records from the MH17 crash.
How was the pathway to become an expert in the industry?

The pathway is similar but different for every speciality. The first would be universities under
Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (KKM), attached with hospitals and military. You could tag at the
forensic dentistry department, for 6 months - 2 years, according to the vacancy and scholarships. The
second path is under universities such as UM, UKM, USM, UITM, and UIA soon. You are given the
opportunity to further studies, the usual course offered is 1/2 years masters, then you can graduate with
a very specialised diploma.

You can also further your studies in phd for forensic DNA. I applied for a few scholarships such as
Islamic Finance Development that supports whatever you want to pursue. A first hand tip would be not
to restrict yourself to cliche scholarships as there are plenty of them out there, you just have to be the
one to find them.

What is your opinion if more Malaysians opt to join this field?

I would be very happy as the more the merrier! I hope that the government would give more exposure
about forensic dentistry as there are so many students just waiting to unleash their budding potential.

What would you say is the biggest challenge you’ve faced to date?

The biggest challenge I have faced is the community's lack of awareness on how important forensic
dentistry actually is. On top of that, the funding received to extend the forensic dentistry field is barely
enough to excel which results in minimal opportunities given in this field.

How did TKC help shape you into the person you are today?
Before entering college, I was shy and timid but TKC shaped me into a brave and independent person.
There was the annual English Drama, where we had to be creative in expressing ourselves. We also had
to conduct our own band practices at times. These situations helped us to figure out the best way to
achieve our own goal on our own.

Any wise words to be shared to the girls of TKC today?

“No hesitation should hold you back, go for any opportunity that comes to you!”
Regardless of any situation, just be yourself! There is only one you in this world so show yourself. Have
fun in everything you do and you will find your true passion within it.

BACCALAUREATE®
TUNKU KURSHIAH COLLEGE IBDP PROGAMME

The International Baccalaureate (IB)

Programme aims to do more than
other curricular activities by developing
knowledgeable and caring young
people who are motivated to succeed.
We strive to develop students who will
build a better world through
intercultural understanding and
respect. Creativity, activity, service (CAS)
is at the heart of DP. It comprises of
community service projects aimed at
showcasing students’ ability to connect
with people and generate creative
ideas. Several projects had been carried
out by TKC’s IB Students that had been
largely beneficial for the school
community.

During November 2018, there was a Be

Smart Be Healthy workshop held for
children at a local village. Other than
that, there was also a Breast
Examination and Talk by Klinik
Kesihatan KLIA in conjunction with the
TKCancer Awareness Program.
Some other activities were “A World of
Imagination” project, IBeDoingPlogging, Road to
Project Runway and Waste No Food
volunteering with Kechara Soup Kitchen Society
Seremban which focus on helping the needy.
The IB girls also organised TKConserve Wildlife
to raise awareness and empathy for animal
issues.

The projects had been a huge success due to the

assistance by the expert IB teachers and the
dedication put in by its students. These valuable
experiences may prove to be of great help in
applying for universities as well as increasing
leadership and people skills. The whole TKC
Community is always wager to see what more
programs and activities that the IBDP@TKC team
has in store.

After 4 years of being dubbed as an

International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years
Programme school, Tunku Kurshiah College
once again held their annual MYPIB exhibition.
This event not only aims to display yearly
assessments. Myriads of wonderful projects
were presented, which include selected
excellent assessments by students ranging from
first to fourth formers, personal projects by fifth
formers and CAS projects by IBDP students.

Most importantly, VVIP guest YB Tuan Haji

Mohamad Taufek Bin Abd Ghani was truly
impressed by our girls’ creativity and innovative-
thinking skills throughout the exhibition.
Interactive and audience-involving presentations
successfully attracted students, teacher and
visitors to all displayed exhibitions. Beaming
faces were seen, marking the event as an
undoubtedly victorious one.

Held every day, starting from January to

March and continuing back from
September to October after the PKP

The aim of the program is to help in

preparing all the needs of the students to
talk about their ideas or opinions about
cultures, traditions, and many more.

A microphone and a speaker are provided

for each block for the talk to occur. From
there the students are free to test their

MY
BEAUTIFUL TKC
TUNKU KURSHIAH COLLEGE‘S MY BEAUTIFUL TKC PROGRAMME

The MyBeautifulTKC campaign which was

initially initiated by our very own Bonda
aims to improve the college by
beautifying it not only by adding new
infrastructures and upgrading existing
ones but also by applying a responsible
outlook throughout the college.

With this implementation, many new

rules were introduced including the
elimination of trash bins in all classes
and dorms.

Although it might be hard at first, to get

out of the usual old habits, Bonda
believes with these new implementations
will soon become a norm to the
Collegians as long as the ball is kept
rolling.

In the end, she hopes that all the efforts

surrounding MyBeautifulTKC will be
beneficial for everybody and it can help to
create an institution that produces
students that are well educated in all
aspects.

THE FINAL CURTAIN CLOSE
SPM 2019 RESULTS DAY

Reported by : Sorfina Noor Azam

Relief, content, excitement and joy were all

but concealed in the faces of all the girls of
Trouvaille. On the third month of 2020, the
most anticipated day for all fifth formers in
Malaysia, SPM result day finally came
knocking.

‘Underdogs of the college’, as our benevolent

Bonda quoted, everyone was extremely
proud for Trouvaille’s accomplishment of 54
straight A’s achievers. Proudly standing on
the stage as the best in Negeri Sembilan, this
long journey filled with many obstacles
definitely concluded with a dream come true.

If one would ask any of the Trouvaille girls

how they managed to acquire such a
tremendous feat, the formula was simple:
sisterhood. Helping out each other, burning
the midnight oil together, never leaving
anyone behind.

With all the hurdles they went through, luck

was surely not the main reason for their
success, but teamwork and hard work was.
On behalf of the college, congratulations to
Trouvaille and may the next journeys in their
life be guided by the grace of Allah.
SPM INTERVIEWS
TROUVAILLE’S SPM 2019

TIPS IN STUDYING
Know your own style of studying. What I did was changing my style of study every
two or three months, and then analyse my results using that particular style of
studying. For example, I studied by reading for the first topical test in Sejarah, and
then used a video watching style for the second topical. If my second result is better,
I would probably use the second method. With that, I can pinpoint which style suited
me the most. I believe that for every subject, there will be different style of studying,
so use the one that can make you go the furthest! Of course, to use this method you
have to try several times in order to screen the consistency of the results.

MESSAGE TO COLLEGIANS
Everyone is surviving their own battle. What we see is not literal because we have not
seen what they’ve been through to achieve to the point where we see them today.
So, be kind to others regardless of the treatment you get. Have courage to face
change as change is inevitable. Change is hard, from my experience. For example,
whether people stay or leave you is a thing you cannot control. Instead, control what
you feel and learn through the process. Hence, brace yourself to face the challenges
you are and will go through in the future. Strengthen you inner self. At one point in
life, your people won’t be there for you. It is up to you on what decision you’re going
to take. Hence, train yourself in bringing yourself up and keeping the positivity in
mind. Lastly, have faith in yourself and believe that you can do it in every step of your
way.

NIK AISYA ZAINAB NIK ABDULLAH SHUKRI

TIPS IN STUDYING
For me, the most effective way is by finding study buddies! Studying together
helps you to enjoy your study sessions and consolidate what you have learnt.
Also, you can ask each other about the topics you did not understand. Next, do
not recycle your exam papers! Do your corrections and write your notes in the
paper using coloured pens (preferably green) and put it in one file according to
the subjects. This really helps especially for last minute studies, so you
wouldn’t have to read those thick revision books!

MESSAGE TO COLLEGIANS
Other than studying, cherish every moment with your friends and
teachers, because as we graduate from school, it is very hard to have
a get-together with the whole batch as everyone will have their own
hectic schedules. I’m very sure that you will miss the all-girls
environment as much as I do now!

PT3 2019 RESULTS DAY

Reported by : Damia Nourrys

For the girls of Darius, walking into the

gates of Kurshiah has never been more
nerve-racking on that day. Of course,
who wouldn’t be anxious during their
PT3 results announcement day?
Donning their signature rose gold
bawals, the girls chatted away, catching
up with each other and trying to ignore
the anxious feeling booming in their
hearts.

Being well known with the excruciating

new syllabus and a dozen question
format changes, the girls still managed
to create history by having the most
number of straight A’s achievers of all
time with a tremendous total of 67 girls
and 35 near misses. Bonda expressed
her proudness towards their
accomplishments as her face glimmers
with bliss.

As a great curtain closes their junior

years, we hope an achievement like this,
or even something bigger, can repeat
itself in their final year at college.
Congratulations to Darius, teachers and
parents!

Any tips for collegians?

Prioritise your priorities. As a student in TKC, it’s
inevitable to be overwhelmed by a lot of things,
either academically or co-curiculums. Put aside
the unimportant things!

Principles?
Everything will pass by. At the moment or a year
time, our situation or future may be exhausting or
blurry. But we’ll figure it out bit by bit, a step at a
time. And at those moments that wears me out, I
simply believes that everything will settles down
and I will get it done.

Things to live by?

We tend to make mistakes in our everyday life
and that's normal. And it is not about judging
ourselves or others about the mistakes we or they
did but it is to correct the wrongs and to take
responsibility.

to their College Sisters who would guide them
throughout their first year in College.

Apart from that, the college also received a fresh

Besides that, this year the freshies were

RUGBY INVITATION TOURNAMENT 2020

Reported by: Zara 'Ayesha

On the 15th & 16th of February 2020, with

the help of our touch rugby team La Reine,
our beautiful school community, as well as
some amazing sponsors, Kolej Tunku
Kurshiah held their very first rugby
tournament. La Reine has been showing
such outstanding achievements ever since
their first establishment in 2014 thus has
gained an increasing number of fans.

Up and early, the teams are already

trudging down the field to warm up for
their upcoming games. The day started off
with a slight shower that caused an hour
delay but not even the rain can dampen
the spirits of the games. 128 games were
held with the participation of 29 clubs,
both under-15 and under-17, from schools
all across Malaysia.

Hardly anything can budge the look of

determination on the team’s coach face,
Mr. Wan Mohd Fazli Wan Yusoff or better
known as Monsieur Fazli, as he stood by
the field, keeping a close eye on the
games. With the ever-supporting up-
roaring cheers from the school’s cheer
team, Kurshiah Ultras, it isn’t a wonder
how the team has snatched themselves a
touchdown for every game, resulting with
a straight win on the very first day.
Nature sure has a way to make a scene
when the event was struck with a sudden
downpour, causing tents flying about of
their stands which resulted with a major
evacuation into the Budiman Hall.
Everyone was drenched from head to toe
but thanks to the school’s quick
response, the situation settled down
without much harm.

During the semi finals of U17, La Reine

and SMK Tok Dor were neck and neck,
both teams still not managing to score
until it had come to a point which both
teams dread; toss coin. Luck wasn’t on La
Reine’s side when the coin favored SMK
Tok Dor, having them continuing into the
finals and finally grabbing the
championship cup. As for the U15 team,
they placed 2nd Cup where the
champion cup goes to SM Sains Hulu
Selangor (SEMASHUR).

The day was wrapped up with a

performance from the school’s
cheerleading team and the award-giving
ceremony. TKSS has surely made a mark
in our planners that we will no doubt
look back to reminisce about such an
eventful weekend.

day gets brighter.

Under the shade of the Azman Hashim

lengthy stretch & a series of light drills, the
nerve-racking atmosphere begins to

Standing in the line, It was certain that by
the look on their faces, that in the back of
every athlete’s mind stood one particular
question: will the win be ours?

Every deafening blast of the horn was

ONLINE BASED LEARNING

Malaysia had been shocked by the sudden

increase in COVID-19 cases in the late of March
this year which led the Malaysian government
to enforce the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The enforcement had affected all schools

throughout Malaysia including our school. But
the closing of school doesn’t mean that
learning can’t be done. Fortunately, the
students and the teachers had discovered
many ways to have learning sessions and to
communicate with each other.

Among the applications that had been used

during the online learning process were Google
Meet and Google Classroom. With the aid of
these applications, students had successfully
continued their syllabus without any difficulty.
Many students had also said that it was fun
and interesting learning through online
platforms as it contradicted with the traditional
way of learning.

All and all, it is hoped that with the new

discoveries of learning methods, students will
be able to put their shoulder to the wheel and

teachers in TKC. Unfortunately, all glad
tidings must come to an end.

Puan Hawa started to teach Chemistry

for the upper secondary students when
she first arrived in 1993. Her sweetest
memory was when she was awarded the
chance to accompany our TKC team, the
winner of the National Science Quiz in
1999 to attend the Nobel Prize Ceremony
1999 in Stockholm, Sweden.

On the other hand, in the year of 2008

and 2015, when TKC’s PSS was selected
to enter the National Level Excellent PSS
Competition, Miss Wong was on her
usual duty. With the competition in the
palm of her hands, she compromised
her time to spend the night at PSS with
some committed librarians to prepare.

their teaching days have embedded a

But instead, our school’s BADAR (Badan Agama,

advantage of this month that only comes once a
year.

BADAR had also created online tadarus groups

consisting of all students with one Naqibah in each
group to connect and do good deeds together such
as reading al-Quran.

At the end of the month, the school had also

Being an Apple Distinguished School, students in

TKC frequently use iPads to do their research,
making their learning easier and much more
efficient. Due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus,
students are required to stay at home and have
their classes held online instead, doubling their
time on their iPads.

However, some students don’t have the privilege to

have an iPad like others. As a result of not owning
the gadget, these students couldn’t catch up with
their studies. In the early of June, with the initiative
and kind generosity of our OGAs, these girls were
gifted an iPad each.

The smiles showed how grateful they were to

receive help when it was really needed and
expressed their gratitude by using the iPads wisely.
Not just that, our beloved principal, Pn Hjh Anismah
M. Noh gave them constant advice and emotional

We would like to thank the school and the generous

Everyone worked hard to generate ideas

together with the teachers who are

sadly rejected as there were activities
that could not be carried out due to the
rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus.
However, ‘giving up’ is not in the
committee’s dictionary as they were
always eager to ensure the success of
the program together.

To ensure that the opening ceremony is

Thankfully, the opening ceremony went

the cooperation of the students present.
A mirror ball has been used to complete

On the 14th of August, Sofea Arisya shared her story titled A Journey with

The morning heat and steep hills weren’t much of

fought through and finished the run under an
impressive time. However, the fight didn’t just
end there as right after the run there was a
marching session. After a tiresome session, our

Progressing into the future, the annual

Hackathon competition has been a favourite of
the college. This year, the college sent three
teams to hustle for the winning medal, namely
teams Promethean, Three-Sixty and Overdrive. In
the first round of the competition, the
participants had to draft out their project ideas
where they would compete to be selected into
round two.

The second round is where the hard part comes.

They were required to bring their proposed
projects to life by transforming it into an “Being the only second former in a

INNOVATION COMPETITION (NATIONAL
SCIENCE WEEK 2020) NEGERI SEMBILAN LEVEL

Reported by Sabrina Amrul

On 16th October, Tunku Kurshiah College sent

three teams to the innovation competition in
addition to the National Science Week 2020. After
a strong fight, one of the teams managed to
emerge as champions for the secondary school
category with their outstanding project named
Plastorvy Melon. The competition was held using
an online platform as the Movement Control
Order prohibited the competition from being
held physically.

There were a variety of hurdles that had to be

faced during the competition. One of them was
that they were forced to cancel their experiment
session which supposedly had to be done at the
National University of Malaysia. Due to the
restrictions of the pandemic, their resources were
limited to what they have on hand. Nevertheless,
these obstacles did not scratch their eager spirit
to ace the competition.

Reported by Nishrin Narissa

From the 10th to 12th of September, TKC

sent 6 groups of fourth formers to Sains
Selangor Innovation Competition or also
known as SSIC. From a hand carry vacuum
to starch-made soap, these groups
definitely put their all in everything they
do. They too, went through a lot as they
have to focus on their nearing

For them, complete the task in groups was

not as easy as 1, 2, 3. So they took matters
into their own hands to divide the tasks
equally. All of the team members worked
together to create the set tasks and
discussed between themselves the best
way to further intensify their innovation

Without a doubt, the hint of nervousness

was still there but nevertheless their
confidence outshone their worries. Here,

collegians who are active in the research and

These students stressed on that

Puteri Sarah and Raja Batrisyia Uzma are back again making the college proud in another
prestigious competition. This time around, these girls are representing the school for Anugerah
Tokoh Nilam Kebangsaan 2020 and had successfully qualified for the national level.

Unfortunately, the competition had to be delayed later in the year to the 6th of August. The
national level had been different for them as it was online. As the competition consists of
individual and group evaluation, they felt it was very difficult to communicate with other
participants.

During the competition, they had to make sure that they established a good rapport and
reached a level of trust between the judges. In contrast with that, they were very satisfied with
themselves as they managed to pull off tremendous effort.

Their hustle definitely didn’t go to waste as Puteri Sarah had been awarded with the fifth place
for the national level.

With the world in shambles due to COVID-19, adjustments had to be made to fit in with the new
normal. The 31st of July was the submission date of various competitions with the new rules and
regulations. One of the new rules introduced was that all the performances had to be recorded
and posted online.

5 representatives were sent to compete in three diverse competitions. The results are as follows;

Wartari Malaysia
Participants: Alis Marisa, Nur Darwisya Fatini
Placing: 3rd at the state level, advanced to national level

Nyanian Solo Minus One Sekolah Perempuan

Participant: Aufa Amani
Placing: 10th place

Participant: Aina Safiyah
Placing: 3rd place

‘We’re honoured to be given the chance to dance to different types of cultures in Malaysia,
indeed all of them were unique in their ways’ - Nur Darwisya Fatini
Numerous drawbacks were encountered by the participants
as they tried to put their best foot forward. One of the
challenges faced by the dancing duo Alis and Darwisya was
the distance between them as one of them was living in Perak
as the other in Negeri Sembilan. Their initial take was invalid
causing them to have to meet up in Putrajaya on Eid-Adha
itself. Their one day worth of intensive practice paid off as
they managed to advance to the National level.

According to Aufa, the young star, she faced microphone

difficulties. Her initial take was in the comfort of her home
but had to retake it as the sound quality wasn't the best.
Hence, she stopped by Multimedia University (MMU) Melaka,
to use their hall as only then was the sound quality tip top.

Aina found difficulties in finding a suitable background for her

remarkable dance to Siti Nurhaliza’s Kurik Kundi. She
portrayed three unique dance styles; Malay, Sabah and
Sarawak, and Minangkabau. This global pandemic proved
that collegians can shine even with anything thrown their

The Movement Control Order (MCO) period surely took a toll toward the academic
world. Ever since the start of its operation, numbers of the economical and
political sectors went into total lockdown, including the most primary institution;
school.

Head Students of SBP (Sekolah Berasrama Penuh) gather in an online meeting

along with our head girl, Raja Uzma Batrisyia, to discuss the most efficient way to
motivate students during the MCO. There were an array of factors as well as
obstacles that were discussed throughout the meeting. Even so, the evolution of
education that had been continued online by the ministry throughout the MCO
gave a green light for programmes to be held using certain platforms such as
Youtube and Zoom.

“Takkan terkenan, walau terkesan” aims to create a path in the mindset of students,
especially the fivers, to keep striving in the pursuit of knowledge even during the
current circumstances. Other than that, the slogan also stresses on that, the pandemic
shouldn't stop us from seeking knowledge.

With the constantly evolving technology, this program also exposes students to the
different ways knowledge can be obtained especially through online platforms and
apps that can easily be reached by the tip of our fingers.

Noticing the students’ love for the Land of The Rising Sun, the International Baccalaureate

The students also experienced living with their respective Japanese host families in Yokosuka
Village to indulge deeper in the unique culture of Japan’s citizens. As education is the main
purpose of this program, the students paid a visit to a life safety learning centre where they
were taught on precautionary steps to take whenever an earthquake strikes, as the natural

The Sri Aman Environmental and English Youth

Leadership Summit (SAEYLS) is an annual event
held by SMK (P), Sri Aman. Participants from all
over the globe attended this summit making it
an international event.

Due to the global pandemic, this summit was

held virtually for two days. The events consisted
of a forum, cosplay competition, and a poetry
recitation. For the forum, they had to create
slides to present their ideas on their given
topics such as the climate crisis.

The cosplay competition required the

participants to fabricate a costume fully made
out of recyclable items. A simple photoshoot
was also carried out to show off their amazing
artworks. During the google meet sessions,
Amirah Alyzan strutted her design and won the
hearts of the judges with her show stopping,
creative costume.

The last competition held was the Poetry

recitation. Themed nature's voice, participants
had to write an original piece and recite it during
the google meet session. Sabrina Fakhrul wrote
a heart touching piece entitled ‘Lost’ which
mesmerized the audience.

‘I will never regret joining the competition which has taught me to be creative and innovative.’

teams drew each frame of their drawings
themselves before being able to produce even a

Nonetheless, the hard work paid off as these two

groups managed to dominate the first and fourth

school, and a hospital close by.

A day before the shoot, they received the

devastating news of a Covid-19 case at the

Even through all the difficulties encountered they

PERTANDINGAN VIDEO ANTI DADAH

Check out the heart touching short film they made:

Reported by Nishrin Narissa

On the 1st until the 11th of September 2020, Tunku Kurshiah College sent three students to
participate in the ‘Pertandingan Video Anti Dadah’. Through this competition, these girls had little
time to make a video about the consequences of taking drugs. It’s also happened to be quite a
challenge for them to come up with best storyline for their video. Still, if Samsan Tech has Han
Jipyeong as their mentor, they have Pn.Noraziah Abd Aziz as their guide.

The push and pull of making the video was worth it as their whole team managed to give their
full cooperation throughout the shoot. In the video, it is presented that you should never leave a
friend behind and every word that you say matters.

This touching story ranked at the top of the competition and made its way to nationals as the
representative of Negeri Sembilan. With this, it is hoped that the students of Tunku Kurshiah
College can keep an eye on each other and to taste your words before you spit them out.

Three form four students participated in The Young Educator’s

Challenge and were shortlisted along with 22 other teams as
finalists out of hundreds of teams. To be one, it was a tough
grind. In this competition, they came up with a brilliant idea of
game-based learning with encouraging physical movement in
class.

The hard work and hustle was definitely worth it. To them, this
was not just any other competition, it was an unforgettable
experience. It taught them that an educator’s work is no joke.
Their minds were more opened about online-based learning
and how to conduct a class.

Moreover, the experience gave them a better insight and

perspective towards educators. “In learning you will teach, and
in teaching you will learn,” With that, it is hoped that more TKC
students will participate and gain new experiences from other
competitions.

After hosting their very own rugby tournament the previous month, La Reine continues on their
journey to conquer the world of rugby. Their training was conducted by their coaches, Mr Wan
Mohd Fazli, Dato’ Nasha and their newest teacher Cik Farhana. They set off to Melaka where they
participated in the Sweet Jumbo Rugby Tournament.

The field was packed with rugby players running about, from MRSM to SBP students. No doubt
the competitiveness of our La Reine girls kicked in as they passed by their potential opponents.
With the support of the team’s parents, the first match went off without a scratch.

The pounding reminder of the lost of the last cup in the previous tournament made our players
determined to prove themselves, which resulted in a satisfactory win. Both U17 teams won First
Cup and First Bowl whereas both U15 placed second for Cup and Plate. Overall, it was a fulfilling
day for the rugers as they flaunted their skills on the field yet again as well as were given a
chance to observe the advanced team plays played from one of the best universities. Watch out!
Monsieur Fazli and the La Reine team will be back for more.
BASKETBALL
Kurshiah, FIGHT! Off goes the ballers, sprinting into the court with the Kurshiah pride flowing deep
within them like adrenaline. Having numerous wins under their wing in the National Community
Basketball League, this fearsome team has never and will never throw the towel in, no matter how
intense each game gets. The admired legacy and sisterly bond of Kudos ever since the early days
of TKC, surely lives on and is definitely something one should look out for.
NETBALL
It doesn’t matter how fit you are or what size you are, netball is surely a sport for all. Sharp, quick
passes across the court and before you know it, Le Papillon scores yet again. For most of our girls,
netball has been a sport close to heart ever since before they set foot into the Kurshiah grounds.
Bouncing about in their bibs, watch out as the Le Papillon girls shoot for another win!
VOLLEYBALL
It’s the volleyball team of Tunku Kurshiah College! With flashy red and white strips jerseys, their
competitive spirit definitely soars high as the march into the grand court. The way they serve and
attack their opponents strongly say that the purpose of this team when going into a competition
is none other than winning it. Let’s just say that the future of this team is seemingly bright and
we surely can expect more from them. Go volleyballers!
ARCHERY
Demanding a range of skills from a steady hand to excellent precision, archery is one of the many
sports to keep a bullseye on. In an open-field, it is never a problem for our archers to aim right on
target. With the guidance of our beloved Ustaz Nor Husnittharir, our archers aimed high for the
skies and shot for their continuous triumphs. What a privilege it is to be amazing at a sunnah
sport, nice one archers!
CHESS
Checkmate! Our masterminds are back again, grinding their minds to corner yet another
victory. Black and white chequered board awaits the players as they craft up strategies and
tactics to end the opponent king’s reign. Moving up and down the table in search of a worthy
opponent, our Kurshiah girls managed to be on top of the charts as they advanced forwards to
the state level.
TENNIS
Serena Williams who? Wielding rackets in their hands all the while maintaining poise and grace,
these young ladies stand as the backbone of the school who ruled the tennis court. Oftentimes
spotted carrying their large tennis racket to the court, these girls spend their after school hours
polishing their skills. Passersby would catch them practicing evening after evening, pouring their
hearts in smashing the tennis balls all to achieve the best technique.
HOCKEY
The future ace sports club. Some may see their hockey sticks merely as toys, but give it a whack
and a skid across the court, the sticks are more than what they seem. Their swift and fast
movement in a game reflects their determination and hard work in practicing. Known as one of
the longest sports to exist in Tunku Kurshiah College, the legacy of hockey had always been
evolving until today. It is hoped that their speed will always continue at a high rate all the time as
what their team name portrays, Vitesse which means speed in French.
BADMINTON
Being the fastest of all racket sports, badminton will always remain a popular choice for our
collegians, whether it be for a tournament or a great way to pass the time. Evenings of playing
around with the racket did our Kurshiah girls wonders as there had been numerous teams
advancing as far as the state level. Even so, having a laugh when you embarrassingly miss a
dramatic shot is definitely one of the many memories that will be cherished whilst playing
badminton at college. Feel free to catch a game whenever as the racket awaits you!
HANDBALL
A fast-flowing game, aiming to score as many times as possible within the periods of
play. This sport requires quick thinking and lightning reflexes, which our Kurshiah
girls sure have a knack of. Strength, speed and agility, the players would pass and
dribble up and down the court in an attempt to shoot for a win. Give it a go and
challenge our girls for a game!

FRESHIES 2024

Oh, look it’s the freshies! Here comes another

crème de la crème batch ready to bring their new

charms and hopes to Kurshiah. They are still working

their way around the college due to their limited

time at school but their capabilities will surely

unravel soon. Hopefully, these newcomers will

adapt and eventually unleash their budding

potential as time passes by. They have four more

years to go, they’ll definitely reign.

Being the backbone of the college, challenges are

always set before them but overcoming every single

one of them is their cup of tea. Stronger together,

they turn it into probable. This bunch of energetic

and strong 14 year olds are the hope of Tunku

Kurshiah College. The girls of sophomore are

always there when we need them. May the

upcoming years treat them with luck!

Trotting along their batch slogan "Blooming

triumphantly, alongside strong camaraderie and

goodwill.", these 138 girls surely proved how their

optimistic attitudes and tender sisterhood

managed them to thrive until alas, their third year in

Kurshiah. Despite not having their PT3 examination

this year, these girls don't waste any other

opportunity to shine and make the name Efthallia

be known.

XYLIX 1620
The toughest of them all, Xylix. Through the hectic

trials such as the uncertainty of their huge

examination date, their triumphs overlook them all.

Five years of experience, these blue warriors are all

set for the world. As they say “Over the obstacles,

marvel the miracles”, with achievements stacked up

on top of each other and plastered all around the

college, these girls did their part in keeping the

Kurshiah flag flying high. Kurshiah wishes luck to

these girls and glory for the future that is upon

them. All the best, Xylix!

Over The Obstacles, Marvel The Miracles

Gala of
the Stars
XYLIX 1620
After a strenuous year of studying, Xylix’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia
(SPM) had finally come to an end. To conclude their high school
year with a bang, a Graduation Night was held to appreciate their
efforts and dedication towards Tunku Kurshiah College.

Themed Gala Of Stars Xylix 1620, a team of teachers and students

took it upon themselves to make the night unforgettable. Initially,
they had planned to have it back in 2019, but due to the ongoing
pandemic, adjustments had to be made to fit in with the strict
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Despite the setbacks, the Dewan Budiman looked majestic,

embellished with decorations fit for a king and of course... queens.
The fifth formers filled the hall with their stunning dresses and
accessories. In pairs they strutted down the runway showing off
their style.

Tears of joy filled the eyes of the Xylix girls as they ended the night
by singing their batch song, ‘Count on Me’ with the teachers. May
this be the start of your bright future, Xylix !

VERSES,

Wish For The Sun

almost froze myself to death

in the midst of this cold world
Kelekatu ke tu?
all i wish was for the sun
but i do not know
Sampai sekarang aku sukar
why the world gave me you
bezakan
instead
Kelekatu dan sepupunya, semut
you are not like the sun
bersayap
who melts the snow
who makes this world warmer
Aku tak suka bila aku lalu di jalan
but you
berlampu
somehow, melts my cold heart
dengan bau tanah yang hujan
and makes my insides warm you
seru
were the hints of yellow
Kelekatu bawa satu keluarga
in this blue world i lived in
serang aku
you are not like the sun
Maka sepanjang perjalanan
but why do you remind me of it?
tersebut
the world then took you away
Aku tutup mulut dan hidung
leaving me alone here,
Mata ku buka suku sahaja
someone who just yearns for
dan sudah semestinya
warmth
Aku menunduk menghadap kaki
i watched you
Yang laju berlari.
and those warm colour of yours
slipped away through my
Mungkin inilah cara Tuhan
fingers, holding onto you to stay
ingatkan
forever
Untuk sentiasa merendah diri
then the world gave me the sun
Dan pasakkan hati pada bumi.
the snow melts,
the world was warm,
,Wardina Sufiyyah Roslan
but my insides weren't
all i used to wish for was the sun
now all i wish for is just you

Hajat

Puteri muda aset negara,

Sini patik punyai satu hajat, Terkulat-
kulat bersarang di dada, Patik
Stage memohon buka bicara
Elakkan diri diulit mimpi.
My small steps left a print
To tiny to be noticed Puteri hauri aset bangsa,
To the whole big stage Perindah akhlakmu, teguhkan iman,
The time I reach the microphone Sahutlah cabaran gelombang
My body tremble like it was Arctic samudera,
Shivers hidden under the uniform Genggam iltizam buat pertiwi.
But once I open my mouth
I can feel thousands orbs Puteri pewaris abadi,
All over me Kecantikan bukan hanya luaran,
And only for me Sering bergaung dalam kotak
My pitchy voice filled the hall ingatanku,
Penetrating to those ears Angkatlah darjatmu ikhlaskan diri.
In the whole big stage
I can speak lies or truth Puteri digilap sepenuh hati,
I can speak dull or wise Didiklah generasi bermula di nurani,
I can speak rude or pleasing Jauhkan diri dari manifestasi,
But no matter what I said Jauhkan diri dari yang asfal.
They remain silent
In the end of “Thank you” Puteri Kurshiah yang kucintai,
It flows with applause Ini bukan satira
Like I’m the Queen mempersendakanmu,
I love to be on stage Setitis demi setitis kula menangis,
It’s the only time when people Mengenangkan sifat alahai si zalim.
Shut up and listen
Puteri Kurshiah yang kuhargai,
Sebelum patik mengundur diri,
,Kamalin Mastura Kamarul Anuar
Waadatlah denganku demi kita,
Bukalah matamu pintu hati.

LONGING
FOR EVERYONE
Scrolling away on my electronic device, slumber had yet to consume me in neither a
dream-like reality nor dream-less black abyss. A slow song after the other continues as a
melody all-too-familiar start to fill my eardrums. Despite having a long journey the next
morning, I am burning the midnight oil with the 21st century entertainment — surfing the
Internet and music. A ghostly smile craved itself on my lips as this particular song plays on.
A tear gathered at the corner of my eye as the screen blurs me from the screen of my
phone. The melody of the song continues as some memories flashes through my tired
mind. The events of the past years played through my mind as the lyrics of the song were
sung,

I'm waking up my mind

I'm just trying to kill the silence
I'm ripping off the blinds
I'm just trying to let some light in

The feeling of these lines filled me in nostalgia as this is the feeling that engulfed me
everyday these past few months. Oh, these months! They made me feel a void in the
depth of my beating core; my heart. No amount of words I can mutter will let anyone
understand these feelings in me yet everyone else seems to feel it too. I stared at the
ceiling in darkness as I wiped the tears that started to overflow my eyes. The impact of the
next verse hit me hard.

But I've been on the road

I've been missing home
See it on my phone that the world back there
Keep spinning 'round without me

A dry laugh escaped my throat at the time these lyrics were sung. I knew these lyrics
were coming by heart. I memorized the entire song yet somehow I still shed tears
whenever this song comes up. ‘Guess today is one of those days’ I thought as I continue
to scroll my social media account. It doesn’t help that being hollered inside the house is
getting to me as I see new trends and all. The things happened ahead of me before I even
realize it that it makes my head spin too much that the feelings keep bothering me to some
extend.

Plastered on the screen the Latin word, Nox. It made a smile creeped onto my
chapped lips. That is similar to my situation now. The irony of these lyrics and word seems
to picture my life tremendously about these past months. What are the lyrics? Well, if you
had heard this song then you might know.

Oh I
Try to be happy but it's hard sometimes
But life
Just seems to happen right before my eyes
'Cause I feel like I'm not there
'Cause my head is up somewhere
Far away from all my friends
I just want that back again
Putting down the phone on my bed beside me as I stared at the ceiling once more. This
time to let myself drawn into the music and lyrics as if it is my story. My story about me
reminiscing about my scattered-circle of friends and their crazy shenanigans. It reminded me
of how far we are from each other now that we are stuck. Stuck in the comfort of our home
which we hoped that the holidays would linger longer.

See it on my phone that my friends back there

Got inside jokes without me
Oh, woah
Don't mean to come off cold
I don't want to be alone

Now that we are separated, it makes me regret being closed-off from them. Just like how
the lyrics are sung. I didn’t mean to be antisocial or cold to you guys and loneliness is not that
enjoyable either. I might look like it but just like how the goes
......but it's hard sometimes
These bubbling emotions are starting to choke me. I feel suffocated just by these
lyrics. The next verse overwhelms me as tears starts to cascade down my already stained
cheeks. It made me forget where I am and who I am for a moment as I welcome this feeling of
similarity.

I don't feel like myself and

I can't help being selfish
Sometimes the pressure gets the best of me
Quiet sobs escaped me as I start to cry at this very moment. The feeling that I need to be
someone else. A feeling like I need to pretend to be happy started to feel so difficult now.
Bathing in these feelings of negativity, I feel a vibration from the side of my bed. Wiping off the
tears as a genuine smile starts to creep in as happiness filled me. The screen of my phone
alerted me that someone is contacting me; my friends. Ruel’s song ended as You are the reason
starts play. I laughed slightly as I picked up the call.
“Hey, I know its late but how are you? Pretty crazy since the pandemic started, right?”
“Yeah, it is. I’m good. You?”
“I’m just glad that we can meet everyone again tomorrow even if school starts and we
have to get back to coll. I miss you guys! Well anyway, see you tomorrow”
“Haha! Yeah, you too”
The call ended as I smiled. My longing to be with every one of my friends would end
tomorrow. I can’t wait!
