P1: What is a Personal Media Profile?

A personal media profile gives the opportunity for an individual to showcase their own information,
interests, hobbies and qualifications they may have achieved. It could also be viewed as a depositary
of your own work and future aspirations to promote your own name and capabilities. Creating your
own media profile allows you to create a unique style, font and colour scheme, which is important
so that the profile is visually aesthetic for a viewer. The more effort and detail that goes into the
design and content is essential for the profile to stand out and attract viewers to their page.
However, it’s important that the profile looks professional too, as it could be your resume,
qualifications and contact information that are being viewed by someone in the digital industry. This
profile could be viewed by millions of people online, so it is vital that you are presenting the best
version of yourself and including multiple aspects of your life on the page.

The following information should be included in your personal media profile:

Name- This must be included as it’s a personal profile so without including your name in it, it’s no
longer personal or revolves around you. You can even make your name stand out and give it a
special font or design, position it at the top of the page so that it’s the first thing you see, this will
immediately show the viewer that your profile solely revolves around you and without this, it lacks a
sense of professionalism and attention to detail.

Links- This is important as you can show your profile offers a wider range of media from multiple
different sources on the web and it’s more convenient for the viewer as they can access other
sources of information.

Interests- Clearly outlining what you are interested in and enjoy doing reflects who you are and will
give your page a niche/ theme that will let people learn about you much more easier.

Personal Biography- For a personal profile to stand out, you must talk about yourself and what
makes you unique as this will be what separates you from everyone else and makes someone more
likely to prefer and engage with your profile more.

Skills- This is essential if someone in a working industry is viewing your profile, as you may have the
qualifications that they’re looking for. Updating your skill sets is vital as this could be the difference
in being accepted to a job or not. This includes all units studied in media as they all offer a wide
range of different skills and all go under different sectors in the media industry.

Images- Including visual elements is what brings your style and theme to life and is more likely to
entice people into viewing your profile with a clear agenda presented.
This media profile clearly shows ‘Liv
Humphries’ presented at the top of the
page. She has given her name a bold
font in comparison to her subheadings
so that it stands out.

Josh has also followed a similar layout,

he has his name written in bold at the
top of the page with a palm tree
background, along with his subheadings
written above.

Jamie has used desk/office imagery for

his background, giving the profile a
professional aesthetic. Likewise with the
previous two, he has included his name
in a large font in the middle of the home
page and even added the motto of
‘determined to achieve’ underneath it.

Liv has made her profile unique by

showcasing some of the art she has
designed on her home page with an
automatic slideshow. She has also
included a welcoming message
explaining what her profile entails.
Likewise to Liv, Josh has also
included pictures on his home
page, both with his friends to
show that he enjoys going out
and socialising. He’s
introduced himself and clearly
outlined the purpose of his
profile.

Jamie has included a picture of golf

which he later says is his passion. He
provides lots of information on his
home page and likewise with Josh,
explains what the profile offers. His
page looks very professional, he has
included a link below to his CV too.

Liv has written about each unit that she

did in digital media and used pictures of
her work to further show this.

Her moodboard like image reflects the

work she did during digital media and her
extensive writing shows the viewer this is
an important part of her work and profile.
Josh has also made a separate
page for his digital media
units and added pictures for
visual effect.

By selecting images like this, a

collage of designs it makes his

aims for the unit too,
setting the standards of
which his personal media
