Types of Anemometers

Cups and propellers: This is the most commonly used, widely functional type of
anemometer. It is also the easiest to make. Problems can occur if used with low wind speeds
and with freezing rain

Pilot Tube: These are used in “wind tunnels” in labs and on aircrafts.

Drag cylinder or sphere: These anemometers are not common but are worth
mentioning

Dissipation anemometers: These types of anemometers are particularly rugged

Speed-of-Sound anemometers: These are not for household use and expensive but
are reliable and fast
