Top five regions of increased forest loss within 50km of mills in Nestlé palm oil supply chain

The chart shows the top five regions of increased forest loss (between 2015 and 2019) in known palm oil dominant
landscapes – i.e. where there is already a high number of palm oil mills.
Of interest is Riau province in Indonesia, where there are a number of multi-stakeholder landscape initiatives aimed at
curbing deforestation while promoting sustainable livelihoods for farmers. Despite these efforts and the high number of
companies with NDPE commitments linked to this area (indicated by the high number of mills in the area), there was
11,249 hectares of deforestation in 2019; 9,097 hectares more than in 2016.
