Do you think young teenagers like 14 years old should be allowed to drive legally? The
first article mentioned some safety experts' and politicians’ thoughts that the minimum
driving age should be 18 years old, on the other hand, the second article opposes it
and states that driving should be allowed from a young age. As for me, I find the first
article more convincing and reliable which is supported with thoughtful reasons, rather
than the second article.

Firstly, the first article comes up with the fact that the brains of an average teen
operate very differently from that of an average adult. They are still young and can be
easily distracted by a phone call, having a conversation, or texting while driving. They
might consider these distractions to be more important than focusing on roads,
however, at 18 years old, which is considered as adulthood, they can well decide which
is more important and ignore those distractions. I strongly believe that this statement
is powerful and realistic enough to raise the minimum driving age to 18.

As another powerful statement, the first article added the fact that younger teens are
not experienced enough such as behaving immaturely such as speeding to impress
their friends or to get an exciting experience. The second article argued on this topic
that no matter what age, he or she starts with zero experience, and raising the
minimum driving age to 18, 30 or 50, wouldn’t make any difference. However, it is
mentioned in the first article that younger teens being inexperienced means not being
as mature as adults, and their brains are not 100% developed.

Lastly, the second article added research information from the Insurance Institute for
Highway, that shows death rates in accidents are more common among 16-year-olds
in Connecticut and 17-year-olds in New Jersey, so raising the driving age would not
prevent any accidents. Though, according to the first article with data from the same
source, accidents are more common among 16- to 17-year-olds than 18- to
19-year-olds. By stating that, it actively demonstrates that driving at the age of 18 is
safer than younger ages.

To conclude, the first article can persuade the reader and their idea to raise the
minimum driving age is well supported by statements such as younger teens’
undeveloped brains, immaturity, and having more accident cases than 18-year-olds.
But the second article only comes up with unrealistic ideas and heads to dangers of
the teens.
