PBD SWITCHES

Allows some expansion of

the bus bars as well as
their misalignments.

Eliminates the need of flexible couplings but a flexible

is necessary if bus bar expansion is more than 10 mm

axially (dA) : ± 10 mm
PBD DISCONNECTORS
highlights

• Visible break

• Absorb dimensional variations due to

expansions (flexible joints are not necessary
if deformation is < or = 10mm)

• Low and constant voltage drop

• Supported by bus bars (no frame required)

• Possibility of covering up totally one side of

the disconnector (for protection & isolation)

• Easy connections by welding to high section

aluminium bus bars

• Large customization possible with :

Actuators (motor, pneumatic, manual)

Auxiliaries (limit switches, locks, control boxes)
Adaptation to the connecting bus bars
Main electrical data

• Temperature rise below 65 K when ambient temperature is 40°C

• Switch temperature is 15°C above bus bars temperature

Derating versus ambient temperature

When the ambient temperature θa is above a reference temperature θ0

the operating current of the switch becomes:

a − θa
I = A1 * IN A1 =
a − θ0

Θ0 = 40°C
a = 110

Example with θa = 65°C

110 − 65
A 1= = 0.8
110 − 40
Therefore a switch rated 50 KA can operate at 40 KA only

IN = rated current of the device

I = operating current in the device
t = time
τ = thermal time constant of the hot part of the device (15 mn)
∆ θN = temperature rise at rated current IN (generally 65 K)
∆θ
θMAX = maximum temperature rise at operating current I
∆θ
θ (I , t) = instantaneous temperature rise at operating current I and time t
Punctual contact temperature: 140°C
