To become a Global Centre of Excellence of Higher Education and Rehabilitation for Empowerment of Persons with

I take this opportunity to welcome students coming from different parts of the
country, who are choosing Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation
University to pursue higher education. As students, all of you are going to start
the most important and exciting journey of life. You will be exploring new areas
of knowledge, discovering new interests and will learn to view your
surroundings with a better perspective.
The first university of its kind was established in 2008 by the Government of
Uttar Pradesh with the noble objective of imparting inclusive education. The
University aims at bringing the differently-abled students in the mainstream by developing their talents and potential to
achieve academic excellence in barrier-free environment with the humanitarian and holistic approach. The incredible
concept of inclusive education not only builds the confidence level of the differently-abled students but also teaches the
other students to be sensitive and empathetic. In this unique University, 50% seats in various programs are reserved for
differently-abled students (DIGVYANGJAN) to give them an opportunity to fulfill their dreams.
The University has achieved several milestones in a short span of time. An important achievement is the establishment of
the Artificial Limb and Rehabilitation Centre which manufactures prosthetics and provides it to the divyangjan free of cost.
The University has initiated modern teaching pedagogies to cater the special requirements of differently-abled students by
providing facilities such as sign language interpretation for hearing impaired students, Braille library and audio books for
the visually-impaired students along with other facilities. Keeping in view the special needs of the hearing impaired
students, College for the Deaf is operational in the campus, which is the only college of its kind in Northern India. The
University also has an international-level badminton hall and a mini-stadium for facilitating the sports activities for
divyangjan and other students.
An educational institution is recognized by the students, teachers and the innovative research work. We ensure to impart a
quality and value-based education to our students on internationally accepted parameters.
I am quite confident that the students seeking admission in this university will be able to develop themselves as responsible

It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming you to Dr. Shakuntala Misra National

Rehabilitation University, a prestigious institution of higher education which was
established in Lucknow under the Department of Empowerment of Persons with
Disabilities by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2008. It is an honour and
privilege for me to be a part of this premier institution in its journey towards
academic excellence. Our University offers a variety of programs to the students
for future job prospects in a progressively competitive environment. It has
entered into MoUs with reputed foreign as well as Indian institutions of higher
education that provide opportunities of national and international exposure to our students.
The University has a barrier-free green campus which is spread over 131 acres with well-developed
infrastructure and is engaged in enhancement of knowledge and research capabilities. The academic and student-friendly
environment of the university empowers and encourages holistic development of the students. The university has separate
boys and girls hostels, world-class sports amenities, in-campus medical facility, placement cell, Artificial Limb Centre,
Stadium, richly stalked Library, auditorium and much more. There is a dedicated team of qualified faculty members and
industrious non-teaching staff that cater to the requirements of the students. This institution is committed to promote

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in
2008 vide UPVU Dr. Shakuntala Misra University Act, 2008 (Act. No. 1 of 2009) under the Department of Empowerment of
Persons with Disabilities, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The University is recognised by the University Grants Commission under
Section 12 (B) of UGC Act, and affiliation of its programs is from various affiliating bodies such as Bar Council of India,
Rehabilitation Council of India, All India Council for Technical Education and Association of Indian Universities among others.
Being the first of its kind in India, the University provides opportunity of learning to the students with special needs in a
seamless and sensitive academic environment. It offers accessible and world class higher education to all with an inclusive
approach. The University is committed to set new standards in higher education by offering universal access to quality
education. One of the most distinctive feature of this University is that there is a provision of reservation of fifty per-cent (50%)
seats for Persons with Disability (Divyangjan) in all the programs run by the University. Out of the fifty per-cent seats reserved
for the Divyangjan fifty per-cent seats [i.e. twenty five per-cent (25%) of the total seats] are reserved for visually impaired
persons. In a short span of time, the University has earned the status of an innovation-driven institution that proactively brings
together academia and industry with a sense of social responsibility. Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University is
currently offering various programs under six faculties and one Institute. The University has initiated modern teaching
pedagogies to cater the special requirements of differently abled students by offering facilities such as sign language
interpretation for deaf, Braille Books for students with visual impairment etc. All programs are being administered with
international teaching and research standards to provide quality education to the students enrolled in the University.
The barrier-free University campus is spread over 131 acres of land in Lucknow, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh. The
University has also received National Award for its outstanding contribution in the area of providing barrier-free environment
from Hon'ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee in 2014.
The allied facilities of the University which includes Bank, Post Office, Students Hostel (Boys' & Girls'), Canteen, Guest
House, Staff Quarters, Computer Centre, Placement Cell makes it a self-sufficient academic microcosm.
The University encourages inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach for holistic academic development of faculty and
students alike. The dedicated and distinguished faculty with wide exposure in their respective disciplines make for lively
transaction of knowledge and vibrant class room atmosphere. The curricula of various programs in the University are designed
to meet the best international standards. The uniqueness of the University lies in imparting quality education based on
international parameters and the paradigm of inclusive empowerment of divyangjan. The University firmly believes that
knowledge and comprehensiveness are glorious attributes of a civilized society. Hence, our endeavour is to educate and

inculcate moral values in students for making them responsible individuals and virtuous citizens. The University also aims to
arouse the social consciousness among students and to provide them with opportunities to utilise their education for social
welfare. In keeping with its commitment, the University has adopted TB and leprosy individuals and is constructively engaged in
bringing them back to the mainstream. These efforts on the part of the University play a vital role in enhancing the personality
and experience of the students.
The University provides free hostel and mess facilities to the divyang students as per norms. The Centre for Indian Sign
Language and Deaf Studies has been established with a view to cater the educational needs of the deaf students. A special
feature of this centre is two years Pre-Degree Certificate Program (PDCD) for the Deaf Students, equivalent to the Intermediate
under 10+2 pattern, which is duly recognized by the Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Uttar Pradesh. Another
important endeavour of the University is the establishment of the Artificial Limb and Rehabilitation Centre which manufactures
artificial limbs and provides the same to the divyangjan free of cost. The University also runs allied health science programs
such as, four years’ Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) and four and a half years’ Bachelor of
Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO).
The University has established various cells, viz, the Guidance and Counselling Cell, Sports and Yoga Cell, University
Industry Linkage Cell and a Cultural Cell. These cells have been established with a purpose of developing and moulding the overall
personality of the students. The University has also started a College for the Deaf from this session, which is the only college for
the Deaf in Northern India. Under this college many short term vocational courses have started and an MOU with NIELIT,
Government of India has been signed. The university also has an international badminton hall with TURF facility its own special
mini stadium with the facilities of gym, badminton court and other sports related facilities especially designed for the Persons
with Disabilties. There is an ongoing endeavour to expand University-Industry Interface and upgrade in-house capabilities to
conduct professional and job oriented programs which are compatible with the emerging trends of economy and employment.
Many students of this University have got placements in various government/ non-government/ public/ private sector
undertakings of national and international repute like Indian Statistical Services, Provincial Civil Services, Allied Services, HDFC
Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, PNB, SBI, Pantaloon, Future Group, Reliance Communications, Airtel, Vodafone etc. The University is
geared to prepare the students for a dignified and quality life through effective delivery of educational services along with an
integrated and inclusive approach in imparting life skills to the students. Building proactive and meaningful academic atmosphere
to provide high quality, relevant and responsive learning environment for one and all and the integration of students into global
socio-economic mainstream is at the top of the University agenda.

FACILITIES AND SERVICES
The infrastructural and educational environment of Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University includes multimedia
educational approach through technology-friendly smart classrooms with modern audio-visual educational aids like Computers,
CCTV, Projectors etc. The university has well equipped computer lab with JAWS (Job Access with Speech). All these along with
the green eco-friendly campus combine to offer the student a world-class educational experience for their all-round
development. The other allied facilities of the University include:
Hostel Facility
The University provides hostel facility for both boys and girls which are very spacious and
well-ventilated. Attendants are provided to the disabled students for managing their daily
affairs. There is constant supervision and monitoring of the students’ activities and
emphasis is laid on their safety. Medical & Health services are also provided in the campus
for the students residing in the hostels. The "SawasthyaSewa Kendra" adjacent to the hostel
block provides medical services to the hostellers round the clock in case of any
casualty/emergency.
Sports and Games Facility

Indoor and outdoor international level stadiums are
available in the university campus which are equipped with
sports equipment of international standards. The indoor
stadium is especially designed for the persons with
Disabilities. Its design and facilities are the main USP of the
stadium. The stadium is equipped with TURF facility, wooden
flooring, international standard badminton court, judo,
table tennis, gym and many other facilities. The outdoor
stadium is designed for track and field games, football,
hockey, volleyball and cricket.
Central Library
The Library in the University caters to the students with a

rich collection of international and national books,
journals, reports and reading material on a wide range of
subjects. Braille books are also available for the visually
impaired student. Many computers in the library are
equipped with screen reading softwares which can
translate the text into 146 languages and read it out to the
students specially the visually impaired ones. The libary is
connected to campus wide network and terminals for
users.

Bank, ATM facility and Post Office

Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University,
Lucknow Uttar Pradesh has a Branch of Bank of Baroda, a
nationalised bank established inside the campus with the
motive of providing an easy access to financial services to
the students especially the Divyangjans. ATM of two
different banks, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank
are functional in the campus. A Post Office is also
established in the campus.
Canteen
The Canteen has been designed with barrier-free features keeping in view the needs of the
disabled persons. The Canteen offers food products at affordable prices and it remains open
throughout the week. It is a popular hangout for students.
Medical Facilities
Medical & Health services are also provided in the campus for the students. There is a
provision of "Sawasthya Sewa Kendra" for the students just adjacent to the hostel block which
provides medical services to the students in case of any casualty/emergency. Each and every
student is insured under Group Insurance Cover.The University also has its own Chief Medical
Superintendent (CMS), who looks after the medical facilities.
Physiotherapy Unit
The University has its own Physiotherapy Unit equipped with ultramodern & digital therapeutic
instruments. This unit provides assessment, diagnostic, therapeutic and consultation Services
to those who need it, free of cost to every students and staff of the University.

Artificial Limb and Rehabilitation Centre

To meet the increasing demand of providing highest quality Prosthetics & Orthotics and
Rehabilitation Care to the physically challenged persons, the University has set-up an
Artificial limb and Rehabilitation Centre (ALRC) in its premises. This centre takes up the
activities of providing Clinical Services, conducting outreach programs, engages itself in
Research & Development Activities and also run training programs in the field of
Prosthetics and Orthotics.
Audiology and Speech- Language Pathology Clinical Services

The University has also established an Audiology and Speech- Language Pathology related
clinical services in its premises, which provides free of cost assessment and management
of patients with various Speech and Hearing related disorders such as Voice Disorders,
Cleft Lip and/or Palate, Delayed Speech and Language Disorders, Stuttering, Articulation
problems, Audiological evaluation, Hearing Aid fitting and others.
Talking Book Studio
Talking Book Studio is a special feature for the visually impaired students. It has facilities
for providing recorded notes/lectures and audio books. The University has signed an MoU
with the Daisy Forum of India/Sugamya Pustakalaya. As per norms of the regulatory body
adequate books are available in accessible format.
Braille Press
Students with visual impairment need books and other study materials in accessible
format and that is why University has established Braille Press in the campus. Students
with visual impairment get books and other study materials as per their requirement.

PLACEMENT HIGHLIGHTS
The Placement Cell plays a crucial role in locating job opportunities for Undergraduates and Postgraduates
passing out from the University by keeping in touch with reputed firms and industrial establishments. The Placement Cell
operates round the year to facilitate contacts between companies and students. The Placement Cell always strives for the
proper grooming of the talent pool of students to meet the expectations of the recruiters. For this purpose, students are
imparted quantitative aptitude training, programming classes, soft skills training and other requisites knowledge through
various value added programs, Guest Lectures & Workshops.
It's a great moment of pride and joy that the MBA/MCA/M.Sc.-IT/B.Tech/BBA/Divyang students at Dr. Shakuntala
Misra National Rehabilitation University have found placement in various prestigious companies. This is an evidence of the
academic discipline along with the outstanding quality and capacity of students of Dr. Shakuntala Misra National
Rehabilitation University and a reflection of trust and confidence that various reputed organization bestows on the Dr.
Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University.
The motto of the Placement Cell is to provide students with ample opportunities for employment through campus
interviews and placement processes which are conducted regularly for the entire year. The Placement Cell focuses and
works to equip students with the right talent and personality in order to turn them into efficient and skillful candidate so as
to face the industry requirements. Moreover, training and practical knowledge has further intensified the ability of students
making them better candidates for job placement. The University has signed an MoU with UPICO for training and placement.
The Placement Cell functions with the primary aim of placing students in top-notch companies even before the
program completion and further provides ample opportunities to the students to develop their personality by conducting
programs regularly in communication and soft skills with the view of making students Industry-friendly and Industry ready
candidates.
In the academic session (2022-23), the placement cell got total 64 job offers from different recruiters. Total 44
students (B.Tech-20/ MBA-16/MCA-4/BBA-2/Divyang -2) got placed in 17 Companies. Out of 44 students, 9 students have
multiple job offers whereas 35 students got single job offers. Campus hiring for the students passing out in 2023 is still
going on.
National and Multinational Companies gave the job opportunities to our students like TCS, Nagarro Software, Jaro
