Volunteering in Botswana 2017 – Current
 Teaching Setswana to English speaking adults
from overseas because they have applied for
Botswana residency
 During COVID 19 I taught Basic English to
Setswana adults on Zoom and WhatsApp.
Volunteering in South Africa 1990 – 2016
 Volunteering to help people understand the
Bible in Johannesburg in 1990 as a young girl
and that opened the door to meet individuals
who are illiterate.
 Taught pensioners to read and write Setswana
and Sesotho (Native languages)
 Focused on basic vocabulary and grammar
 Used visual aids and books for beginners to
motivate them to read.
 Planned home works to monitor progress
 Lessons were conducted as a group.
 Volunteered in a small town called Coligny in
the Northwest Province (SA).
 Taught Setswana and basic English to adults
aged 25 – 45 who were farm workers.
 Planned lessons and homework according to
the students’ needs.
 Lessons were conducted one on one.
