Daily Routines

Ex 1: Read the text below and underline the verbs used when describing a daily routine.

Ted’s Daily Routine

“I wake up at 6 am every morning and get up straight away. I go for a run with
my dog for half an hour and then I have a shower, brush my teeth and get
dressed. After that, I have my breakfast. I usually have cereal and orange juice. I
get the bus to work at a quarter to eight and on the journey, I read a book or
listen to a podcast. I arrive at work early, have a cup of coffee and start working at 8.45 am. I take a break
for an hour at noon to eat my lunch and then continue working. I leave work at 5 pm and get the bus at a
quarter past five. I get home at around six and bring my dog for a walk. In the evening, I cook dinner and
chat with my housemates. After dinner, I usually make my lunch for the next day, go to the supermarket
or wash some clothes if I need to. I watch TV for about an hour and go to bed at ten every night. I usually
read for a few minutes before I go to sleep.”

Jessica’s Daily Routine

Jessica has a very busy schedule. She wakes up at half seven most mornings,
has a shower, puts on her makeup and gets dressed. She wakes her children
up at 8 am and gets them ready for school. She eats breakfast with her family
and then brushes her teeth. She leaves the house at 8.30 am and drives her children to
school on her way to work. She starts work at 9 o’clock and takes a short coffee break at 11 am. At half
twelve, she eats lunch and continues working until 3 pm every day. She collects her children from school
on the way home. The children play outside with their friends until 5 o’clock and after, she normally helps
them with their homework while her husband cooks dinner. They all eat dinner at 6 pm. After that, she
relaxes by reading a book or watching TV. At around 8 pm, she puts her children to bed while her
husband cleans the house and makes lunch for the next day. They both go to bed at half ten.

Clare’s Daily Routine

“I’m in my final year of university, so I spend most of my time in the library
studying. I’m a night owl and I study better at night, so I usually wake up at 9 am,
have a shower, brush my teeth, and go to university. I attend lectures from 10 am –
1 pm, have an hour break and attend more lectures until 4 o clock. I go to the gym for an hour and then
have dinner at 5.30 pm. After that, I study in the library from 6.30 - 8.30 pm, have a short coffee break
for 15 minutes and then go back to study until 10 pm. I relax at home until I go to bed at midnight.”
