I. Introduction
Rationale
Around March 2020, lessons were disrupted due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

This pandemic interrupted educaton at every level globally. Temporary school

closures allegedly resulted in significant learning loss. When educational institutions

were closed, learners, as well as teachers, miss the opportunity to socially interact

which is essential to learning and development. Despite this difficult circumtances,

the Department of Education was nevertheless able to conduct the classes online
and

modular distance learning.

Modular Distance Learning (MDL) features individualized instruction that

allows learners to use self-learning modules (SLMs) in print or digital

format/electronic copy, whichever is applicable to the learner. All the alternative

learning modalities offered by the Department of Education (DepEd), most students

prefer to use the ‘modular’ distance learning options reported Merlina

Hernand Malipot (2020). Dep Ed Secretary Briones emphasize that the basic

education learning continuity plan is the response of the Department of Education to

the challenges brought by corona virus outbreak (Montemayor, 2020). In Modular

Distance Learning, the teacher takes responsibility for monitoring the progress of the

learners . It is important to assess if students' learning outcomes are equivalent to or

superior to those of traditional classroom-based instruction.

According to Mark Antony Llego (2020), learners that participate in

modular distance learning do it at their own pace, in their own fashion, and utilizing

SLMs (self-learning modules). It is possible for it to be a printed, digital, or electronic

copy suitable for students, as well as other educational resources including textbooks

and activities sheets, study aids, and other educational resources. Distance learning's

effectiveness and success are reliant on the study materials, Jayaram and Dorababu

(2020) . Therefore, DepEd centered on using self-study modules as the primary

teaching resource for all students, which can be integrated with other available

learning delivery methods for pupils.

Despite its accessibility and low cost, Modular distance learning affects

students in both positive and negative ways. MDL improves family ties, self-directed

learning, and is economical. However, for many people, remote learning still isn't the

greatest option because learning lacks socialization with other children, there is an

additional responsibility for working parents, and there is lack of considerable

student-teacher interaction and exposure to activities in school, but are instead

exposed to a variety of distractions at home.

Therefore, this research aims to explore and analyze the impact of modular

learning on Grade 10 students at City Central High School, examining various factors

such as academic performance, student engagement, access to learning resources, and

the overall educational experience. One important factor to take into account is the

academic performance of Grade 10 students under the modular learning system.

The findings will inform educators, administrators, and policymakers about the

effectiveness of modular learning as an alternative educational approach. By

encouraging instructional innovation and improvement in the educational

environment of the school, the research ultimately aims to improve the educational

experiences and outcomes of Grade 10 students.

THE PROBLEM

Statement of the Problem

The goal of this study is to find out how the modular learning

affect to the Grade 10 students at City Central National High School

during the Pandemic Year 2020-2023.

Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:

1. What are the problems encountered by students in modular learning?

2. What are the advantages and disadvantages of modular learning?

3.How does offline modality affect to every students?
