Statement of the Problem

This research will investigate the relationship between the level of motivation and
the academic performance in algebra of the Senior High School Students at Pasay West
High School, School year 2023 – 2024. This will also be a basis for a curriculum
enhancement of the school.

Specially, the researchers will answer the following problems:

1. What is the academic performance of Senior High School students in Algebra at
Pasay City West as to
a. Solving linear equations
b. Solving Quadratic Equations

2. What is the level of motivation of the Senior High School Students in Algebra?
3. Is there a significant relationship between the level of motivation and academic
performance in algebra of the Senior High School Students at Pasay West high
School?
d. Hypothesis

Hypothesis

This study will be tested at 0.05 level of significance

Ho: There is no significant relationship between the level of motivation and the academic
performance in algebra of the Senior High School Students at Pasay West high School at
Pasay West High School.

Hypothesis – There is a relationship between the level of motivation and the academic
performance in algebra of the Senior High School Students at Pasay West high School at

f. Significance of Study – who will benefit from your study and how will they benefit?

Significant of the Study

Senior High School Students. The result of the study will help improve the level of
motivation of the students as well as their academic performance in algebra.

Teachers. This study will help teachers to help students improve their academic
performance through different motivational activities.

Parents. This study will give awareness on how to support their children’s academic
performance and motivation in Algebra. Fostering a more conducive environment at
home.

School Administrators. This study will as basis for implementation strategies for
engagement learning among teachers and Senior High School Students in Algebra.

Other Researchers. This study will serve as reference in gathering data in conducting a
similar study.

g. Definition of Terms – terms/words that you used in the study. Define it operationally.
Academic Performance. It refers to the cumulative grades of the students from the first
semester.

Motivation. It refers to the behavior of the students in learning algebra.

Intrinsic Motivation

h. Related Literature and Studies – arranged “Thematically”, researcher should follow

the APA format, literature done for the past 5 years. (2019 – 2024)

Academic Performance

According to Salazar (2022), students with superb academic performance

tend to spend more time of studying their lessons. However, they more likely to
windraw themselves form their peers only to spend their time in their lessons (De

leon, 2024).

i. Synthesis – mention the similarities and differences of your study from the study you
reviewed.

In the study of Salazar (2022) and Deleon (2024), they mentioned the

importance of spending more time to study so that academic performance would

increase. Similarly, the researcher in study focuses of the performance of

students considering their time spend in studying the lesson

j. Theoretical Framework - Cite theories (Psychological Theories) in which you anchored

your study.
Theoretical Frameworks

This study will anchor on self-determination theory proposed by Richard

M. Ryan and Edward L. Deci. (1982). According to Ryan and Deci, Self-

determination theory (SDT) is a psychological framework that focuses on the

motivation behind people's choices and behaviors. It suggests that individuals are

motivated to grow and change by three innate psychological needs: autonomy

(feeling in control of one's own actions), competence (feeling capable and

effective in one's interactions with the environment), and relatedness (feeling

connected to others).

(Relate this theory to your study. Citing how will this theory guide you in your

study)
