I was fascinated with choosing Business Management as the subject for my EE
because it suits my way of thinking and analysis.

I was looking for a subject that would help me discover the consequences of political
decisions on international companies, and I was inspired to choose this topic from
class discussion.

As a foregoing ICT infrastructure and smart equipment provider, the case of Huawei
was thought-provoking to me.

With the help of my supervisor, we developed a research question and decided the
tools to be used (perception mapping and market segmentation) to approach a valid
conclusion. We also agreed to use secondary data; due to the fact that it is almost
impossible to collect financial primary data.

However, I needed to ensure the reliability of data as part of the ethical issue faced,
but I wasn't too worried because the supervisor promised to help me verify the
sources.

This topic entirely ties in with Business Management EE because it focuses on

scrutinizing the effect of external factors on financial performance and customer
loyalty, which are central part of business management principles.

I took advantage of the summer vacation by writing the introduction, significance, and
methodology. Also, creating a mind map showing the next steps I would follow. After
returning to school, I showed it to the supervisor and she was really impressed by it.

I allocated a period of approximately two months to complete the analysis part and I
was amazed by the company's ability to maintain its market position and profitability
percentage by shifting the focus to local region.

I went looking for the methods that the company used, and I found that it benefited
from the market segmentation strategy, and this as proved in the perception map
displayed.

At this moment I understood why my supervisor hardly recommended these tools

and methods to be implemented.

After submitting the initial draft, the supervisor suggested that I should show focus in
the entire essay and link it directly to the question.

I feel really proud to have completed my Extended Essay; all kind of feelings like
relief and accomplishment run though me as part of the process.

Along the journey, I have discovered my capacity for persistence and critical thinking
especially through understanding peculiar research together with data analysis.

This will undoubtedly benefit me in my academic and career endeavors.

Careful organization and time management are among the most successful
strategies that I highly value to maintain a steady progress.

However, I encountered an obstacle in creating appropriate citations, as some

sources lack descriptive data, but I was able to resort to external methods until I
completed all the required information.

If I had a second attempt, I would get more serious about working on the research
methodology by the first week to obtain more efficiency.

To a grade 11 student who is about to start the EE journey, I would suggest selecting
a topic of real interest, and interacting with the supervisor freely to discuss and share
opinion.
