Christmas is around the corner and I have decided to have fun embroidering
festive holiday things. All the decorated cute houses around are whispering to me
"Just do it!". So for the month of December I have decided to start a new
stitch-along and make 24 short videos in the style of an Advent Calendar. Every
day we will be stitching one element from this wonderful embroidery design.

It’s a great opportunity for you to give yourself a reason to embroider at least 1
hour or less every day something simple, something fun and something festive.
So for the month of December I’m going to be having quick short videos where I’m
going to be showing you how to embroider each element. They are quick and
easy, nothing to stress out about.

So as I prepare to get those videos all you are going to need is to transfer the
pattern to your fabric and choose your threads. Your color pallet can be different
from mine, feel free to use any colors you want. And you can use different fabric
color, I really like seeing how you guys choose your own fabric and thread colors.
Your projects look so different and fun!

If you are beginner you can keep it easy and stitch only outlines, or of you are
experienced embroiderer you can add as many details as you want. You can use
any kind of stitches or techniques, any kind of threads like metallics or
variegated. Just let your imagination flow and make your own version. You can
embellish it with beads and sequences, felt and ribbons. The main goal is to enjoy
the process!

😀 I’m very excited to do this! 🥳

There is no exact order, I will follow my inspiration and choose one object I like as I
go. You can suggest on the comments below which elements should I choose first
and I’ll decide from that. Comment bellow and let me know if you will take part in
this stitch-along and what are your favorite objects from this design.
So just follow along my short videos. They will appear in the new special playlist
on YouTube I will create for this project and I will see you on December 1st, on the
first day of my Advent Calendar series.

On Patreon I will be sharing my illustrations with stitching instructions as I go.

And by the end of this project I will share a big video for you with my full stitching
process without speed up where you can see every stitch I make. So if you are
interested in getting those additional instructions and educational materials
come join my Stitching Club on Patreon if you haven’t done so yet:

Once you join you will get access not to only this project but to 100+ other
embroidery designs and video courses I already have there!

Happy stitching!

HOW to TRANSFER PATTERNS to the FABRIC?
You can use light methods if it’s possible, read more about it in this article:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/pattern-using-43953821

I usually use Pilot Frixion heating erasable gel pens for tracing the design onto
fabric. They can be different colours and it's comfortable to mark different objects
or stitches directions. For dark fabrics I find useful Clover heating erasable pen.
You can find them all on Amazon:

Other option for thick black fabric it’s water erasable stabilizers, more about it

MATERIALS and TOOLS
Here is the list of materials you will need for this project:

- Cotton Fabric 10'X10' / 25X25 cm for round shape version;

or 11’X12,5’ / 28X32 cm for a traditional rectangular frame.

It can be just a regular white cotton fabric or natural color linen. You might want
to have one more layer of fabric as a stabilizer to stitch on both layers. Or you
can just stitch on one layer of fabric but add another one for framing to hide the
back side.

- Erasable pens or Stick&Stitch paper for pattern transferring.

- 8’ Wooden Hoop https://amzn.to/3BfZ7tl or Nurge №3 size of square hoop

- Embroidery needles, just use #3-9 needles that you have or here is the link to
those which I use if you don't have needles: https://amzn.to/3foJdn6

- Piece of felt for backing. Here is video tutorial about framing your embroidery in
the hoop: https://youtu.be/FcxISHtS8zA

STITCHING INSTRUCTIONS
Once you have already transferred this pattern to your fabric and all the threads
prepared you can start stitching. Here are some recommendations on how you
can choose your own way to complete this embroidery project. You can go with
simple line stitches like Back Stitch, Stem Stitch, Split Stitch, Chain Stitch and
stitch only borders by using different colors. Fill bigger shapes using Satin Stitch
- it is also easy to perform.

You can have some fun and fill the background using fabric markers, watercolor
or textile paint. Just like the coloring book! And then only outline the borders.

Fill the letters using long and short or split stitch filling.

Refer to the Stitch Guide below to learn how to do different stitches for this
pattern. If you are a complete beginner, please read my free educational articles
on my website listed on the “Educational Articles” page.

If you need more information, my YouTube channel is a good resource to find any
kind of video tutorials for beginners.

Hope you will be pleased with the results no matter which approach you choose!

Basic Stitching Tutorials

Make a single, straight stitch as long or short as you want. Continue along your pattern
line, but come up a space ahead and bring your needle back down into the same hole at
the end of the last stitch you made. You can use this stitch for outlining.

Stem stitch is one of the most common and

basic embroidery stitches and is used
frequently in surface embroidery, freeform
embroidery, whitework, redwork and more.

This stitch creates a thin line and can be

used to outline embroidered shapes, to
form flower and plant stems and more.
Stem stitch is easy to work along a straight
or curved line, making it suitable for so
many embroidery designs.

Working Stem Stitch: Bring your needle up through the fabric just above the marked line
of your pattern. Insert the needle one stitch length away from it and just below the
pattern line. Come back up a little less than half-way, just above the line. Repeat this
process, going back down just below the line.

Keep your thread on the one side during your stitching.

Used to create a flower and tiny leaves.
- Pull needle through to front.
- Make a loop and insert again right next to the place you pull out.
- Come out again in the other place holding the thread under the needle as you pull
tight.
- Insert the needle outside the loop and move onto the next petal.

WHIPPED BACK STITCH - this is a great way to embellish a line of backstitch, adding
thickness, texture or some extra colour. Start with a line of backstitch. Slide the needle
under the first backstitch from the top down. Slide the needle under the next stitch from
the top down. Repeat.

To make a French knot, bring your needle up through the fabric where you want to place
the knot. Wrap the thread around the needle once for a small knot, or twice for a larger
knot. Avoid wrapping more than 3 times or you will end up with a lopsided knot.

To finish the knot, insert the needle back into the fabric close to the hole you came out of
(almost in the same hole). Then slowly pull the needle and working thread through the
wrapped loops to complete a French knot.

Split stitch is one of the basic stitches and it's very easy to learn and it is perfect
for outlining.

1. Make a single straight stitch as long or short as you want.

2. Bring your needle up on the same place if you would do for back stitch.

3. Then bring your needle down through the center of that stitch you just made.

Continue along your pattern line, but come up a space ahead and bring your
needle back down into the previous stitch by splitting it in the middle.

There are 2 ways you can work split stitch: bringing needle up splitting the stitch
or bringing your needle down from the front (like I usually do). Just try both ways
and choose what is more comfortable for you, the result is the same.

If the line if curved make shorted stitches, if you have straight lines you can make
them longer, just follow the lines and curves you have in your pattern.

You can use different numbers of threads. When you are stitching with 4-6
strands it looks like a tiny chain stitch, using only one strand you can make some
tiny lines and details.

The satin stitch technically is one of the easiest stitches! You can use it to cover tiny,
small and medium areas and make all kinds of shapes. Satin stitch makes a very smooth
and polished looking surface which sets it apart from all the stitches we used in the other
parts of the series which have distinct lines to show.

Traditionally satin stitch fills in an area without an outline around it. This means that the
stitching should form smooth shapes and even lines. Evenweave fabric can make this
tricky at times, as the spaces designed for stitches create a "stepped" effect with your
satin stitch.
