1 General
To equip buildings, facilities, commonly-frequented areas and working spaces with a fire warning
system can only be carried out economically and with reasonable propriety when correspondingly
well-founded safety concepts are developed and accordingly applied.
Wherever the highest requirements are made on a fire warning system, whether in small
commercial facilities or in industrial plants, the Fire Alarm Computer 8000C / M transforms safety
techniques and economy into practical reality. The modular design with different micro modules
and individual extension concepts allow the Fire Alarm Computer 8000C / M to be easily adapted
to special requirements. The Fire Alarm Computer 8000C / M represents the most modern
standard of fire warning technology. A reliable fire warning facility is guaranteed by the application
of "intelligent" fire detectors connected in an analog loop which is tolerant to short and open
circuits.
In this analog loop - the esserbus® / esserbus®-PLus - up to 127 loop devices each capable of
being configured into 127 individual detector zones can be connected with an overall cable length
of up to two kilometres. The esserbus® is a two-wire line supplied and monitored at both ends in
ring topology. The Fire Alarm Computer 8000C / M automatically registers the wiring of the analog
loop and determines the logical addresses of the individual loop devices. A separate adjustment of
the addresses of the individual loop devices is unnecessary.
keine weitere Spannungsversorgung erforderlich.
Subscribers in the esserbus® are automatic and non-automatic intelligent fire detectors, technical
alarm modules (TAL) and the specially developed esserbus® transponder input/output devices.
These esserbus® transponders are loop devices with freely programmable inputs and outputs, for
example for the activation and monitoring of external devices such as display panels, alarm
devices, door closers and other connected equipment.
Using the essernet® safety network, 31 Fire Alarm Computer 8000C / M or other network
subscribers such as display and operating panels or alarm devices can be connected in a
homogenous network. Operation of the fire warning system, e.g. switching off a detector zone, is
possible from any fire alarm control panel or operating panel in the essernet®. Signals such as
alarm, trouble, disconnection or other events are transferred to all subscribers in the essernet® and
can be accessed from any desired position. Data exchange can, according to the transfer rate, be
carried out either with a twisted pair or a LAN cable. The essernet® communications protocol
guarantees reliable data exchange even if a short or open circuit occurs in the network.
These Operating Instructions are intended to aid you in the operation of the Fire Alarm Computer
8000C / M in addition to the description provided by the specialised installer and should be kept
together with the technical documentation of the fire alarm system. If you have any questions,
please consult your specialised installer.
The operation of an installed and operative fire alarm control panel may only be carried out by
authorised and trained persons under observance of the safety precautions and, if necessary, in
collaboration with other organisations (e.g. fire department).

♦ Enter the primary loop number of the analog loop in which the sensors are to be switched off
and press the Select function key.
♦ Enter the number of the desired function (1 = O sensor off, 2 = OI sensor off, 3 = I sensor off,
4 = all sensors on) or select the function with the cursor keys and press the Function key.
☞ Switching off sensors is only possible for OH and OHI multisensor fire detectors. If
multisensor fire detectors with unifunctional detectors (detectors with only one sensor) are
installed together in an analog loop, only the sensors in multisensor detectors are switched
off.
If sensors have already been disconnected in an analog loop, for example I sensor off for all fire
detectors or if there are no sensors of the selected type in this analog loop or a zone disconnect
has been detected, the message "Switch on/Disconnect not permissible" is displayed.
In order to change the existing sensor switching status, all disconnected detector sensors must first
be switched on, for example with the command All sensors on. After all detector sensors have been
switched on, a further switching off/sensor disconnect can be performed.
By entering the zone and detector number, individual sensors can be switched off in each single
multisensor detector.
If only the zone number is entered (detector number = 0), the desired sensor switch-off is
performed for all multisensor detectors in this detector zone. If sensors have already been
switched off in individual multisensor detectors in this zone, the message "Switch on/off not
permissible" appears. All sensors must first be switched on in this zone before the desired sensors
can be switched off.

6 Installation Instructions
The terminal assignment and wiring illustrated in these installation instructions refer exclusively to the
facilities of the operating system software for the Federal Republic of Germany [D].
Operation of the fire alarm control panel 8000C/M is governed by the national version of the operating
system software used and the country version programmed in the customer data.
ESD protection
While handling electronic assemblies, the necessary precautions against electrostatic
discharge must be taken.
In Germany, systems are considered to be in compliance with the general technical rules or the
standards of the EU for security systems if they meet the technical guidelines of the VDE (Verband
Deutscher Elektrotechniker, Association of German Electrical Engineers). They may also be
considered to be in compliance with the standards of the EU for security systems if they meet the
technical guidelines of another comparable institution within the European Community which have
been accepted in accordance with directive 73/23 EEC of the Council dd. 19 February 1973 –
directive on low-voltage systems- (ABL. EG No. L 77 page 29).
These technical guidelines must be observed within the European Community. The VDE
guidelines must be observed within Germany. In other countries (e.g. U.S.A.: NFPA and UL
requirements), the relevant national standards, guidelines and legislation must be observed.
In addition to the above, the guidelines of the German VdS Schadenversicherer GmbH,
Association of German Property Insurers) may apply for systems installed in Germany.
7 Overview
In full configuration, the FACP 8000C / M will accommodate up to two micro modules in any
configuration (also refer to Section on micro modules). One micro module slot is located on the
basis card of the 8000C / M FACP. A second micro module slot may be added by inserting the
appropriate peripheral or extension module.
Individually adaptable extension variants are possible with the freely selectable extension to the
FACP 8000C / M. The Field device modules required in order to construct an individual central unit
in line with the relevant standards. The connections for the fire service control panel, the

Fig. 7: FACP 8000C with Standard rear panel
c Metal sheet of the base plate for shielding and the PE connection
The basic and Field device module is connected to the central housing’s rear metal panel
! via the metal spacers and the metal screws. Without this electrically conductive connection
between the basic module and the rear metal panel, sufficient EMC protection for the
FACP 8000C/M is not guaranteed.
8.1 Wallmounting
Mark the fastening points for the base plate on the assembly surface.
Each of the two housing variants with the standard rear panel or the battery rear panel has its own
drilling template. The drilling template is enclosed with the additional pack for the central unit.
To compensate for slight wall unevenness, you can screw the four wall compensation pieces of
the base plate in or out.
The central unit’s additional pack contains a special spanner for the adjusting the wall
compensation elements.
8.1.1 Connection between the central housing and the extension housing
The two connecting pieces must be used to connect the central housing and the extension
housing.
connection pieces
2x
Fig. 12: Remove the housing plates - insert the connection pieces
1. Remove the central housing of the FACP 8000C / M from the box.
The cover contact and both connecting cables for the rechargeable batteries have already
been attached to the basic module.
2. Pull the ribbon cable of the operating module and of the built-in printer (if present) off the
connectors of the basic module.
3. Remove the four connecting screws between the base plate and the housing frame which were
screwed in for transport.
4. The housing door (operating module and variants) has already been connected to the housing
frame at the factory. To detach the housing door from the housing frame, pull out both
retaining pins of the housing door holder.
5. The housing must be mounted on a stable, clean and dry wall surface without mechanical
stress. The function of the snap-type connection for the housing door can be impaired if the
housing is not correctly mounted.
Only flat-head screws and dowels with a diameter of 8 mm should be used to secure the
central unit’s housing.
Here, make sure that the screw head fits into the hole of the wall compensation element and
does not project.
6. To compensate for slight wall unevenness, you can screw the four wall compensation pieces of
the base plate in or out.
The central unit’s additional pack contains a special spanner for the adjusting the wall
compensation elements.
The three unused fastening points between the base plate and the housing frame are not
necessary on the FACP 8000C / M. This fastening is intended for a different housing use.
The basic module terminals could be removed for easy installation. Disconnection of already wired
terminals is not necessary.
Disconnect all power from the panel before carrying out any installation work. The panel
may only be operated while the cabinet is closed. Operation is not allowed while the
cabinet is open, or if the housing is not fully assembled or if cabinet openings have been
tampered with.
Fig. 14: Fastening points of the four connecting screws (FACP 8000C)
Fig. 15: Fastening points of the four connecting screws (FACP 8000M)
The power and signal cabling of the FACP 8000 C/M should be led through the wall into the
cabinet. Only use the cable entries provided for this purpose.
Cable entry

1. Lead the 230V main power cord through the wall and the cable entry provided in the rear of the
unit (see illustration). Fasten it using appropriate devices, e.g. plastic cable straps.
2. Make sure that the mains and signal cables don’t interfere with the rear panel of the cabinet or
the cabinet frame which is mounted on the rear panel.
3. Signal cables must only be led through the other cable entries.
Make sure to lead all cables complete with their outer sheaths intact into the cabinet. Only
remove the insulation from those sections which are inside the cabinet.
1. Insert the rechargeable battery (batteries) into the battery compartment and secure the battery
fastener by screwing in the two screws. The mechanical battery fastener (plastic part) is
enclosed in the central unit’s additional pack.
two screws
When doing so, ensure that no connecting cables are trapped between the base plate and the
housing frame and that the insulation of the cables is not damaged.
3. Screw the four connecting screws between the base plate and the housing frame back into the
fasteners (housing corners).
4. Insert the cover contact into the holder on the right or left upper housing side. The contact lug
must be directed downwards (see Figure). The cover contact is already connected at the
factory to the basic module’s plug contact via a connecting cable.
The cover contact can be removed from the holder again for servicing and maintenance work
or, if necessary, additional cover contacts can be inserted into the remaining holders in each
corner of the housing. A total of four cover contacts can be inserted into the housing of the
FACP 8000C. When a single cover contact is installed, it should always be inserted into one of
the two holders in the upper part of the housing.

5. Place the operating module with both retaining bolts into the housing frame. When doing so,
press the retaining bolts into the guide sleeve as far as they will go.
The extension housing is assembled similar to the central housing. The individual assembly steps
are described in the section "Assembling the central housing".
The following must also be observed when assembling the extension housing:
♦ The connection pieces between the central and extension housings can be pushed into the
housing only from the rear side due to the door hinge. If an extension housing is fitted at the
bottom to an already securely installed central housing, the central housing must be removed
from the assembly surface.
♦ A separate drilling template is available for each of the two housing variants with the standard
or battery rear panel. The drilling template is enclosed in the central unit’s additional pack.
♦ The fastening holes in the mounting surface must be drilled precisely and without offset to the
side. Otherwise, use of the connecting pieces between the two housings is no longer possible
in the event of major deviations.
☞ If the extension housing with the battery rear panel is used, please note that depending on
the rechargeable batteries used, a significant weight must be supported by the fastening
screws of the extension housing. Longer 8 mm flat-head screws should always be used
here.
☞ Each housing must be separately secured with suitable fastening materials such as screws
and dowels. Attachment of the extension housing with fastening only via the connection
pieces between the central and extension housing is not permissible.
The standard rear panel may be used in combination with the extension housing (part no.
789302/03) to install additional components. Holes E and H are provided for mounting the various
components. The standard rear panel allows the following extensions:

Fig. 21: Exploded illustration of the operating module / housing door
i The operating module is hooked into the holder of the central unit’s housing with the two
retaining bolts.
☞ The operating module is not required for programming the FACP 8000C / M. The service
PC can also be directly connected to the programming connector of the basic module.
Using the ESSER service program TEDIS (optional) enables the operating module to be
completely simulated on the service PC with all functions.
Opening
The housing door can be opened with the key vertical.
Closing
To close the housing door, the lock must be in the horizontal position. The key is not required. The
housing door can simply be pushed closed and engaged in the snap-type fastener.
The housing door key is always required to open the housing front.

As soon as the voltage of the batteries goes below 9.5V the battery backup will get disconnected
to protect the batteries and the control panel. The control panel is no longer operational.
Eliminate the trouble condition of the mains power supply and turn/switch on the control panel. The
connected batteries will get charged automatically if the voltage of the batteries during the battery
test without external load is higher than 10.5V DC. A battery failure will be indicated if the voltage
of the batteries does not exceed this level. Discharged batteries have to be recharged with an
external power supply or need to be replaced. The protection for deep discharging of the batteries
can be enabled / disabled with the jumper BR2. (BR2 closed = battery protection enabled / BR2
open = battery protection disabled)
Exhausted batteries (off-load voltage Ubattery < 10,0V DC) will not charge correctly. Only the
! battery types approved by the fire alarm control panel manufacturer may be used for
supplying the fire alarm control panels with backup power. Please pay attention to the
manual of the manufacturer of the batteries. It is possible that deep discharged batteries
can not be used and need to be replaced.
The power supply unit periodically monitors the charge of the batteries connected. If this battery
test reveals a battery voltage of below 10.0 V DC under load, battery trouble will be signalled. The
battery charge is controlled by means of a temperature-dependent resistor (NTC).
If only one battery is connected, solder jumper BR1 on the basic circuit board may be closed in
order to deactivate monitoring of battery connection 2. Alternatively, the second, unused battery
connection cable may also be connected to the first battery in order to override the battery
monitoring facility for the absent second battery.
If a battery is connected without deactivating or overriding the monitoring of the second battery,
battery trouble will be signaled the next time an internal control panel battery test is performed.

1) Field device module with one micro module slot (Part no. 772418)
The field device module integrates all of the input and output modules that are necessary in
addition to the modules on the basic module for the FACP 8000C to operate as a fire alarm control
panel to DIN VDE 0833.
An fire alarm control panel 8000C / M will accommodate a field device card for connecting a fire
department operating panel and a master box. Three freely programmable relays are also
provided for any output function that may be required. Coding bridges (BR9- BR20) may be used
for setting the activation mode for these three relays (K2, K3, K4) to monitored and positive-
switching, positive-switching or as a potential-free change-over contact. The coding bridges (BR3-
BR5) may also be used for setting these relays to activate if an event occurs while the control
panel is in the CPU failure mode.
If a control panel is required to function in accordance with DIN 0833, you should program the
relays with the common fire (K2), common alarm (K3) and common disconnection (K4) in the customer
data of the control panel.
☞ On leaving the factory, only relay K1 is configured to activate the master box in CPU failure
mode.
Do not connect relays (AE) of the FACP 8000C/M with alternating voltage. Even in the case
! of a potential free relay mode it is not possible to switch an external AC-voltage

terminal card on the basis module by means of jumpers X11-14.
Monitored primary loop input Pri+/Pri- (terminal X11) has the purpose of monitoring CPU failure in
®
the essernet system. These terminals are used, for example, to connect the common fire relay of

The programmed control panel configuration must match the actual configuration of the control
panel, i.e. number and slot of extension cards and micro modules. With control panels that have
been installed and programmed, the control panel configuration may be retrieved from the
customer data memory of the fire alarm control panel for service purposes using the service PC
and displayed on the PC screen.
It is also possible to print out fire alarm control panel programming on a printer. Using the
customer data editor, you may employ a filter function to select whether to print all or only specific
data, such as the control panel configuration or the data record for a specific analog loop.
Programming the fire alarm control panel is described in ESSER publication Customer Data Editor
8000C / M (Part-No. 798115).
☞ When connecting the service PC, the cover contact must be open to ensure that
connection of the PC will be detected by the FACP.
☞ It is highly recommended to save all data on the harddisk of your PC. In case of a data loss
in the panel it is possible to restore the programmed configuration from the PC.
☞ For the access to the customer data memory you must have the identical or higher
Software Release of the Customer data editor as used by the panel configuration.
15 Technical Data
Rated frequency : 50 – 60 Hz
Protection class : I
Basic module
Quiescent current : 150 mA (incl. operating panel card and power supply)
Due to the integrated EMC protection, these relays do not provide floating contacts in
any mode.
♦ analog loop may be divided into 127 individual detector zones (customer data programming).
♦ Recommended type of cable for analog loop: line transmission cable IY(St)-Y 0.8 mm
(diameter).
♦ Max. impedance of the analog loop incl. spur measured from terminal A+ to B+, with a cable
cross section of 0.8 mm = 75Ω (0.6 mm = 130Ω). This value corresponds to an overall cable
length of approx. 2000m (outgoing and return lines).
♦ max. 16- communications transponder per Fire alarm control panel 8000C / M
Commissioning a wired and functional analog loop requires use of the service PC and the software
Customer Data Editor 8000C / M Version V2.27 or higher. This customer data editor initiates an
®
automatic wiring recognition function on the analog loop and addresses all esserbus loop devices
automatically. There is no longer any need to set addresses manually. The customer data entry
program is then used for programming how you want individual detectors to be assigned to the
detector zones. Programming the FACP 8000C / M is described in Customer Data Editor
8000C / M.
1. Always upstream of the point where the analog loop crosses into another fire compartment
2. On changing from special fire detectors to manual call points (and vice versa)
Part no. 801491: Detector base with relay output (30 VDC / 1A)
Part no. 801492: Detector base with open collector output (30 V DC / 400 mA)
The outputs in the detector bases may be used for the decentralized activation of system
components. The programmed customer data defines the control number as well as assignment
of individual control units to one or more events, such as alarm, trouble and disconnection.
Loop devices with the part-no. 80xxxx are fully backwards compatible and can be

(schematic circuit diagram)
The signal to enable the fire service key box (FSKB)is activated when the master box
acknowledge signal (terminal 8 = MFAB acknowledge) from the fire alarm control panel is
detected.
If it has been impossible to activate a master box due to an event, possibly because the MFAB
was switched off, this is indicated on the control panel by the steadily lit red LED Notify fire
department.
♦ the cover contact (lock on outer hosing) is open. (factory setting of solder jumper on module:
BR2 = open ; BR3 = closed). The customer data of the fire alarm control panel must be
programmed under menu point Functional designation of the MFAB control module to suppress
the activation of the master box when the cover contact is open.
♦ the operating panel keyboard has been enabled for operation (key-operated switch)
♦ the master box is disconnected
♦ there is trouble with the master box
Activation of the MFAB in dependency on the cover contact (BR2 and BR3)
The hardware adjustment of the activation of the master box is determined by the two solder
bridges BR2 and BR3 on the MFAB control module.
BR2 = open The activation of the MFAB occurs in dependency on the customer data
programming. If, for BR3 = closed example, activation has been
BR3 = closed suppressed in the menu point Functional designation of the MFAB control
module when the cover contact is open, the master box will not be
activated in the case of an event when the cover contact is open.
BR2 = closed The activation of the MFAB occurs independently of the customer data
programming. If, for example, activation has been suppressed in the menu
BR3 = open point Functional designation of the MFAB control module when the cover
contact is open, the master box will still be activated in the case of an
event by hardware when the cover contact is open.

♦ The outgoing and return line of the essernet® link must always be installed separately, i.e. not in
a multiple-pair cable or cable duct. Installing them together may impair operation or, in the
event of irreparable damage to the cable/cable duct, lead to failure of the connection because
of a break in the outgoing and return line.
♦ Repeaters ®
may be used if the length of cable between two essernet devices is greater than
®
1000m. No more than two repeaters are permissible between two essernet devices. Each
repeater can be used to span a length of 1000m. This produces a max. cable length of 3000m
®
between two essernet devices. Repeaters are installed in a metal enclosure which is protected
to IP65 when properly installed. The voltage can be supplied from control panel or an external
power supply unit. The operating voltage range for a repeater is 8-18V DC/ 150mA, bearing in
mind the voltage drop in relation to line length or line cross sectional area.
♦ Different overvoltage protection modules are have been approved for the two essernet® micro
module types (ESSER information sheet on "Overvoltage protection in hazard alarm systems",
part no. 798410).

Compatibility
essernet® micro module Typ 1(784840, 64 kBd)
All hardware revisions up to and including B2 are compatible with each other and with the
repeaters up to revision A. Hardware revision E of micro modules and repeaters is compatible with
micro module revision B3 and later. Hardware revisions up to and including B2 and hardware
revisions of B3 and later should not be used in mixed operation as this might lead to
communication problems.
essernet® micro module Typ 2 (784841, 500 kBd)
All hardware revisions of the modules and repeaters delivered to date are compatible with each
other and with revision E.
®
The essernet micromodules with hardware revision E and later are class A information
! devices (ITE) as per DIN EN 55022: 1999-05. This device may cause radio interference
in a residential environment. The user may be legally obliged to take appropriate action
in any case of interference. A residential area is defined as an area in which the
operation of broadcast radio or television receivers must to be anticipated in a range of
10 m from the device in question.
23 esserbus ® transponder
®
esserbus transponders are input/output modules for extending the control panel inputs/outputs.
®
As devices on the analog loop - the esserbus - they may be operated jointly in separate detector
®
zones with fire detectors on the esserbus .
®
It is possible to install up to 32 esserbus transponders in separate detector zones (separated by
®
zone isolators). Mixing the operation of fire detectors and esserbus transponders is not
permissible within one detector zone.
®
The esserbus transponders is installed either at special fitting locations or on a standard C-
mounting rail in the fire alarm control panel, or at decentralised level at any location in the analog
loop in a special plastic housing (part No. 788600 / 788601). The internal voltage supply is fed to
®
the esserbus transponder from the zone voltage of the analog loop.

24.1 Status display
In normal operation of the fire alarm control panel 8000C / M, the central display shows the status
with messages sorted according to their priority. In the case of an alarm, trouble or switch-off, the
display always shows the first and last message with equal priority.
Using the cursor keys of the keyboard, the various messages of the display can be selected and
revealed.
If no key is pressed for longer than 20 seconds, the display returns automatically to the message
with the highest priority.
In the overview display, the number of all transmitted signals is shown separated according to the
type of signal (alarm, trouble, switch-off and other events) for rapid information on the status of the
equipment.
25 Installer level
Operations and fire alarm control panel functions which should only be performed by specialised
installers or authorised persons are integrated under the menu options Installer in the fire alarm
control panel 8000C / M. The service level is protected from unauthorised access by a numeric
authorisation code. This authorisation code is dependent on the country function programmed in
the customer data.
Pressing the Installer function key moved from the service level to the installer level. Before entry
to the installer level, the authorisation code must be entered. (Exception: The requirement of the
authorisation code has been deleted by the programming of the Customer data)

At the installer level, the event memory of the fire alarm control panel can be shown on the control
panel display by pressing the Event mem key. The last 200 events, such as alarms, malfunctions,
switch-offs and operating authorisations are stored in the event memory in chronological order.
The display shows the latest event.
The events are automatically numbered with consecutive report numbers. The higher the report
number, the more recent is the event (report number 001 = oldest event).

26 Diagnostic display
26.1 Power supply values of FACP 8000C / M
The diagnostic display enables, e.g. a fast check of the power supply values of this fire alarm
control panel for service and maintenance work. In the control panel display, a diagnostic field with
individual measured values (analog measurement channels) which are automatically determined
by the control panel is displayed.
Key press sequence for switching on the diagnostic display Test-Test-F4-3
Test Test F4
Press key 3
The display is structured in a matrix for a quick survey. The significance of the individual analog
channels is shown in the table below.
The status display at the beginning of the line (0,S,E or B) indicated whether data calibration is in
progress between two control panels. This is always the case when signals are updated in the
®
essernet , for example when a switched off control panel is switched back on or when a new
®
control panel is integrated in the essernet network and its data is automatically updated. Which
control panel is conducting this data calibration can be determined by the two-digit control panel
number (part: xx).
Once selected, the diagnostic line remains visibly in the display in all menu levels, for example
when changing to the status display, the installer level or when scrolling the contents of the
display, until it is deactivated.

In the illustrated example, four fire alarm control panels are interconnected in the essernet .
The connection between control panel No. 2 and No. 3 is faulty due to an open line, a short circuit
or incorrect wiring.
Panel no. 5-31 are displayed with the ?-sign, because the they are not programmed in the
customer data.

During the display of the essernet diagnostic line, status messages such as MB switched
off or Acoustics switched off are not shown in this line of the display.
A 3 digit error code is displayed in the alphanumeric display in case of a failure of an intelligent fire
detector (series 9200). The meanings of these codes and measures for correcting the error
condition are given in the following table.
During detector replacement, the alphanumeric display shows error codes which have to comply
with the modifications done. If error messages remain after the detector replacement has been
completed the cause of the trouble can be identified quickly with the help of the 3 digit error code
(ref. tables below).
