2. Major insights/realizations you got from the discussion

- You shouldn’t attempt to casually counsel your friends
- Long-standing issues/problems/concerns in someone’s life are very much subject to
counseling
- Mirroring is essential to counseling
- Counseling creates a safe emotional environment

- REFLECTION LOG:

● Have you had experiences in the past wherein you have counseled someone
correctly/incorrectly?

Iwin - I’ve counseled someone incorrectly because I tried doing it casually and didn't take it
much seriously, though eventually I came to realize that that approach is not helpful.

Ervine - I have experiences as an active listener as a way to understand the situation of my

friends. I try not to force myself to give advice so I just give comfort.

Christopher - I have counseled some incorrectly. Because I always try to connect their current
situation with a situation I previously had. So I always tell them what I’d do or what works for me,
but counseling doesn’t work that way. COUNSELING IS MORE ABOUT LISTENING.

Miguel - I personally think that I am a great listener, however I think I am too proactive with
suggesting solutions and even attempting to fix people's problems, sometimes I also think that
some of my methods to help people are too extreme and really only work for me.

● What is your greatest takeaway from the discussion that will summarize what you
learned in class?
Ervine - Counseling involves mutual trust between the counselor and a client where a safe
environment is established.

Iwin - My greatest takeaway is that good counseling comes from people you trust and genuinely
care.

Christopher - Counseling is very helpful for those who have suffered traumas or extreme
distress. It helps with ultimately overcoming those issues, instead of letting them drag you and
affect you for the rest of your life.

Miguel - Counseling is also taxing for the counselor and is tough and noble job, as genuine help
and care is hard to come across for the clients.
