Scholarship Announcement

The Monroe County Business Women’s Club is requesting applications for our annual scholarship. The
scholarship, called The Wanda Robbins Memorial Scholarship, is in memory of a former outstanding leader of
our organization, and is available and for two recipients in 2024.
Each awarded scholarship will be in the amount of $500 (five hundred dollars) and will be paid to the bursar’s
oNice of the institution where the student is enrolled for Fall 2024, on behalf of the student.

Any Monroe County, Alabama rising college 2024 freshman female is encouraged to apply. Awards will be
presented to the recipient(s) during their Senior Awards Day, prior to graduation. To be favorably considered,
the student should meet the following criteria:

During their time in high school, student must have

• Achieved outstanding academic performance and be able to provide a transcript verifying this.
Grades requirement minimum 3.5 or a 4 point scale.
• Been involved in school service clubs and/or volunteered for community outreach/service
programs. She must be able to provide a signed statement from a sponsoring faculty member,
agency representative, or other non-parental adult who can verify her service.

Female students must reside in Monroe County, Alabama, and be graduating in May/June 2024, from an
accredited public, private or home school that is also in Monroe County, Alabama.

Students do not have to show financial need but must be registered with FAFSA.

Students must be able to prove acceptance to an accredited community college, four-year institution, or
technical/trade school, and intend to start her secondary education Fall 2024 semester/quarter.

Applicants must provide a 300-400-word essay detailing how her college education and experience will help
her on their journey to becoming a professional businesswoman, about an outstanding personal
accomplishment, and/or why she should be chosen for this scholarship. Use one of these topics or any
combination of them.

Deadline to apply: April 4, 2024.

Applications should be postmarked on or before April 4, 2024. Applicants are encouraged to email a copy of
their application packet along with a photo of the postmarked envelope to at least one committee member.
Packets postmarked after April 4, 2024, will not be considered. Monroe County Business Women will not be
responsible for application packets lost in the mail. Emailing a completed application packet and photo of
postmarked envelope will help ensure consideration.
