Hello, my name is Nahom Solomon and I am thrilled to have the

opportunity to introduce myself in this essay. I started school when I

was 4. My mom said it would have a negative impact on me so I only
changed school once. I learned pre-school and elementary in School of
Americana, a local private primary school in my village. Then I changed
to Lideta Catholic Cathedral School, a well renowned school in Addis
Ababa when I was in Grade 7.

The new school I changed was very competitive and also the system
was a lot different from the previous school I was in. As a result,
maintaining a GPA of 4.0 needed a lot of effort and was not easy. I
struggled a lot to get along with the system of my new school. I met a
lot of new friends and I started to participate in different school
activities. Then, school started to be fun once again.

Aside academic studies, I took place in different extracurricular

activities and volunteer works. I wanted to make a difference in my
society, so as to do that I preferred volunteering on fields that need a
lot of help and awareness creation. As an example, I have been
volunteering in a charity organization called Care Epilepsy Ethiopia. It
was mainly focused on creating awareness to the community and
changing the biased look against epileptic people and while doing that I
noticed that this field needs a lot of work. Apart from this one I also
volunteered at an organization that helps people with Down syndrome
and Autism. I have also been helping at the Ethiopian Cardiac Center in
fundraising this summer.

I am now a Grade 12 student and this is the critical time to work on

ourselves on being successful and I didn’t want to dawdle while I
needed to work so I spent most of my summer by taking different
courses. Among these I have joined the Ethiopian Space Society and
took a crash course in Astronomy and space science. Through these I
have also been able to visit the Ethiopian Aviation Academy. I also like
to diversify my knowledge and skills, therefore I have participated in
the African Robotics Championship held in February 2023 and made my
team stood 2nd nationwide under my leadership. Aforementioned, I
wanted to make a difference in my community and since peace and
stability is now lost in most of our country, Ethiopia. Hence, I took a
course which mainly focused on maintaining peace and security in hope
of having a good impact on the society.

Aside from these I have also participated in different school clubs and
activities. I am the president of Book club which motivates students
into reading. I work as a coordinator in a club named codecom which
teaches club members programming online through different
platforms. I participate in a club named PASS which is for Physics
Astronomy and Space Science. In addition, I am also board member for
a school club named ERE Aviate which is mainly focused on creating
future pilots and to guide students through their high school years to
figure out what their passion is.

Among the much participation I made in school clubs, what I consider

to be the biggest is that of Mathematics club in which I am a
coordinating member. Through our years we did a lot of things
including the grand mathematics competition we held in 2022 in which
I was a host. I am glad I was a host because this experience helped me
to develop my ability in speaking in front of a great crowd of people. I
hope I have said enough about my academic and extracurricular
achievements.
Figuring out what my passion was also the most challenging thing I
have ever encountered. In order to do so, I had to try different things,
join different clubs, try out taking different courses, watch different
people on different fields until I landed somewhere, software
engineering. After that I have been trying to develop my skills over the
field by taking different courses online and being an active member of a
coding club in our school. I also started researching where I can get an
advanced education in this field and what I got on top of my list is none
other than South Korea. I have been a great fan of K dramas since I was
a kid and South Korea has a great way of fascinating me with different
things. I had admired the advanced technological system through the
country, their culture, the beauty of the country and most importantly
their living style and their academic system. I really want to be part of
this great society and also member of the Korean educational system.

Hopefully, by having this great opportunity of learning in South Korea, I

am sure I will be a great enthusiastic individual who is working for the
better of the world. I would like to make a great contribution by
specializing in the field I am planning to take. I believe learning in South
Korea will be a great step forward toward my journey to success.

Finally, I would like to show my gratitude for considering me for this

amazing opportunity that so many students would like to get. I hope I
will meet your expectations and be chosen so as to get near to
succeeding my future plans.
