Roles and Responsibilities


Clinical
 Provides individualized care to patients based on scientific nursing principle.
 Performs nursing duties in a timely- manner.
 Collects both subjective and objective signs and symptoms, focused patient history and do
physical assessment. Coordinate all collected data with the attending physicians and other
members of the healthcare team.
 Designs a plan of care together with other member of the healthcare team.
 Performs prioritizes cases and attend to the most urgent cases.
 Takes patient’s vital signs, make use of monitoring equipment and initiate evidence-based nursing
interventions.
 Assists physicians during patient examination and invasive procedure like chest tube insertion,
thoracentesis, paracentesis
 Prepares and administers medications while monitoring for any adverse reaction.
 Does IV insertion, nasal packing, wound care, blood transfusion, NGT and catheter insertion,
suctioning and extraction.
 Provides basic bedside care
 Prepares all supplies needed during procedures. Assembles both aseptic and sterile areas.
 Documents completely all nursing and medical management provided which are all properly
signed, timed and dated.
 Provides health teaching appropriately; on treatment, diet, activity and follow-up.
 Assists other healthcare team in handling patients; radiology, laboratory and pulmonary
department.
 Relays to the attending physician all diagnostic exam results.
 Interprets and refers ECG tracings showing life threatening arrhythmias.
 Maintains infection control practices.
 Provides emotional and spiritual support to the patient and his/her relatives.
 Supervises and mentor junior nurses.
 Assists in managing patient for conduction to other hospitals.
