Assignment No 1
Q1. Explain the construction and working of Bi-Polar Junction Transistor.

Ans. Construction of Bipolar Junction Transistor:

A transistor is a three layer semiconductor component in which one type of semiconductor (P)
Type or (N) Type and it is dopped between two other similar types of semiconductors. Bipolar junction
transistors are made of three layers of semiconductor material.

Types of Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) :

There are two types of bipolar junction transistor.
 NPN Transistor
 PNP Transistor

NPN Transistor:
The N-P-N transistor consists of two N type
semiconductors that dopped with a one P type semiconductor.
Here, electrons are the majority charge carriers while holes are
the minority charge carriers.
A small amount of current at the base terminal causes a large
amount of current to flow from emitter to collector.

PNP Transistor:
The PNP transistor consists of two P type semiconductors that
dopped with one N type semiconductor. Here, holes are the
majority charge carriers while electrons are the minority charge
carriers.
A small amount of current at the base terminal causes a large
amount of current to flow from emitter to collector
