1.2 INTRODUCTION ABOUT TOPIC

Business today is dynamic, with a steadily increasing pace of change. Timely and
actionable information is the best way to combat the elements. Every organization needs
three types of resources e.g. financial resources, human resources and technological
resources. No organization can achieve success without its employee. Success and failure
of business somehow depends on its employees they have.

Happy workers are productive workers. Until and unless a worker is satisfied, he cannot
give be productive. Employee satisfaction is important for its humanitarian value and for
its financial benefit (due to its effect on employee behavior.)

Increasing job satisfaction is important for its humanitarian value and for its financial
benefit (due to its effect on employee behavior.) As early as 1918, Edward Thorndike
explored the relationship between work and satisfaction in the Journal of Applied
Psychology.

Research has included measures of job satisfaction in all our employee surveys. Clear
patterns have emerged.

Employees with higher job satisfaction:

 Believe that the organization will be satisfying in the long run.
 Care about the quality of their work.
 Are more committed to the organization.
 Have a higher retention rates, and
 Are more productive.
Vague terms like “Morale” often include elements of satisfaction, commitment, desire to
quit, communication etc. A major business magazine quoted a CEO who consistently
confused job satisfaction with complacency. A lack of conceptual clarity makes it
difficult to learn anything useful or precise.

One area of disagreement is whether job satisfaction has multiple dimensions.

Researchers like Porter and Lawler define Job satisfaction as a uni-dimensional construct;
that is, you are generally satisfied or dissatisfied with your job. In contrast, Smith,
Kendall and Hulin argue that job satisfaction is multi-dimensional; that is, you may be
more or less satisfied with your job, your supervisor, your pay, your workplace, etc.

For the purpose of our work, we follow Porter & Lawler and define job satisfaction as
people’s affective (emotional) response to their current job conditions. We also carefully
distinguish job satisfaction from its consequences. Desire to stay with an organization is
not a symptom to job satisfaction; it is a consequence pf job satisfaction. As an
independent factor, desire to stay is also affected by other factors such as employees’ job
security, expectations about their future success in the organization, etc.

SOURCES OF CONFUSION:

Negative is stronger than positive. Dissatisfaction seems to be more motivating than

satisfaction. In a similar way, people often react more immediately and visibly to pain
than to a pleasant stimulus.

Diminishing returns. Frequently, there is not a simple relationship between satisfaction

and its consequences. For example: the greater the dissatisfaction, the greater the
motivation to quit. Once people are basically satisfied, they are no longer motivated to
quit. How will their behavior be different if they are widely satisfied with their jobs?
They will still not be motivated to quit. Thus, once employees are satisfied with their
jobs, being widely satisfied may not produce significantly different behavior. This effect
can cause managers to under-estimate just how motivating job satisfaction really is.

WHAT ARE THE STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT FACTORS THAT AFFECT

JOB SATISFACTION?

I surveyed 50 samples largely white collar, employees at Infowiz Company from all
levels of employees. 20% were managers/supervisors; 80% worked full-time; average
age was 33; they were all male employees.

As part of a larger project whose goal was to create an employee-driven, survey-

improvement process, there are many factors that influences, such as Leadership and
Planning, Corporate Culture, Communication, Career Development, Individual Role,
Grievance Handling, Recognition and Rewards, Teamwork and Cooperation, Working
Conditions, Supervisor’s Role, Training and Development and Benefits. But there are
mainly six factors that influenced job satisfaction. Those are high, job satisfaction was
high. When those factors were low, job satisfaction seems low.

Bellow the table shows that job satisfaction is influenced by opportunities one get in his
work place, stress level, leadership of his organization, work environment, reward and
awards, and the authority he gets.

OPPORTUNITY:

Employees are more satisfied when they have challenging opportunities at work. This
includes chances to participate in interesting projects, jobs with a satisfying degree of
challenge and opportunities for increased responsibility. Important: this is not simply
“Promotional Opportunity”. As organizations have become flatter, promotions can be
rare. People have found challenge through projects, team leadership, special assignments
as well as promotions.

ACTIONS:

 Promote from within when possible.

 Reward promising employees with roles on interesting projects.
 Divide jobs into levels of increasing leadership and responsibility.

It may be possible to create job titles that demonstrate increasing levels of expertise
which are not limited by availability of positions. They simply demonstrate achievement.
STRESS:

When negative stress is continuously high, job satisfaction is low. Jobs are more stressful
if they are interfere with employees’ personal lives or are a continuing source of worry or
concern.

ACTIONS:

 Promote a balance of work and personal lives. Make sure that senior managers
model this behavior.
 Distribute work evenly (fairly) within work-teams.
 Review work procedures to remove unnecessary “Red-Tape” or bureaucracy.
 Manage the number of interruptions employees have to endure while trying to
do their jobs.
 Some organizations utilize exercise or “Fun” breaks at work.

LEADERSHIP:

Employees are more satisfied when their managers are good leaders. This includes
motivating employees to do a good job, striving for excellence or just taking action.

Actions:
 Make sure your managers as well trained. Leadership combines attitudes and
behavior. It can be learned.
 People respond to managers that they can trust and who inspire them to achieve
meaningful goals.

WORK STANDARDS:

Employees are more satisfied when their entire workgroup takes pride in the quality of its
work.

Actions:
 Encourage communication between employees and customers. Quality gains
importance when employees see its impact on customers.
 Develop meaningful measures of quality. Celebrate achievement in quality.

FAIR REWARDS:
Employees are more satisfied when they feel they are rewarded fairly for the work they
do. Consider employee responsibilities, the effort they have put forth, the work they have
done well and the demands of their job.

Actions:
 Make sure rewards are for genuine contribution to the organization.
 Be consistent in your reward policies.
 If your wages are competitive, make sure employees know this.
 Rewards can include a variety of benefits and perks other than money.

ADEQUATE AUTHORITY:

Employees are more satisfied when they have a adequate freedom and authority to do
their jobs.

Actions:
 Let employees make decisions.
 Allow employees to have input on decisions that will affect them.
 Establish work goals but let employees determine how they will achieve those
goals. Latter reviews may identify innovative “Best Practices’.

CHAPTER 2-Objectives of the study

1. To identify factors, those give employees satisfaction.

2. To find out the significant relation between employee satisfaction and

business result.

3. To find out whether happy employees are productive employees.

CHAPTER 3-SCOPE OF THE STUDY

 The study is intended to evaluate satisfaction of employees in the organization.

 A good satisfaction program procedure is essential to achieve goal of the
organization. It efficient satisfaction programs of employee are made not only in
this particular organization but also any other organization.
 The organizations can achieve the efficiency also to develop a good
organizational cultural.
CHAPTER 4-Research methodology

In order to reach relevant conclusion, research work needed to be designed in a proper

way. Research part is divided into following steps:

 Literature survey
 Analysis
 Conclusion

1. Literature survey:
In order to know the actual concept of Employee Satisfaction, factors that give
satisfaction, an extensive literature survey need to be done. Various sources for
information would be journals, books, articles and internet.

2. Analysis:
Analyzing the facts that employee responses through questionnaire. Questionnaire
could be developed on various parameters. Then gathered data will be processed
through statistical techniques.

3. Conclusion:
After doing analysis of the responses of the employees, conclusion would be given on
the basis of gathered information.

Data collection sources

Research will be based on two sources:

1. Primary data
2. Secondary data

1) PRIMARY DATA:

a.) Questionnaire: Primary data will be collected by preparing questionnaire for

employees. The questionnaire contained questions on dimensions viz;

i. Leadership and planning

ii. Corporate Culture
iii. Communication
iv. Career Development
v. Individual Role
vi. Grievance Handling
vii. Recognition and Rewards
viii. Teamwork and Cooperation
ix. Working Conditions
x. Supervisor’s Role
xi. Training and Development
xii. Benefits

b.) Personal interview: Essentially informal ones that could be very effective as well as
interesting.

2) SECONDARY DATA:

Secondary data will consist of different literatures like books which are published,
articles, internet, magazines and websites of various companies.
CHAPTER 5- DATA ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

The title of my project was “Employees Satisfaction”. The survey covered 50 employees
at company. The survey was conducted through a survey questionnaire. There were 15
grand questions in the questionnaire, but there were also few sub questions in my
questionnaire. Different age groups of employees have been covered under survey.

INTERPRETATION-

This question was asked to check whether they are happy to work under their respective
employer or not. Most of the SOFTWIZZ Company employees are very satisfied. There
are very negligible numbers of employees are not satisfied with their employer. By taking
data all together it shows almost equal numbers of employees are satisfied and somewhat
dissatisfied.

There were many questions asked to check whether they are happy to work under
respective employer or not. Most of the Company `s employees are very satisfied. But
few Company’s employees were not happy.

There are very negligible numbers of employees who are not satisfied with their
employer. By taking all together it shows almost equal numbers of employees are very
satisfied and somewhat dissatisfied.
.
More than 50 percent samples are very much concerned that they contribute to their
organization’s mission. They also showed their concern for Appreciation System. They
want some sort of recognition for good performance. In spite of the following they want a
regular and structured system of feedback.

..Almost everybody wants to continue his services and almost everybody were interested
to recommend their relatives or their friends about their company. Unsatisfactory things
were, management and worker cooperation and initial initiative was not encouraged.

One thing that makes human unique is ability to focus energy. Whether to heat a home or
to cut steel with a laser, focusing energy where it’s needed produces significant results.
As a manager, one need to know what is important and where is the problem. Focusing
time and resources on a specific problem is more likely to produce measurable benefits
for the organization.
Limitations of the project

While undertaking my final project and making this project I was confronted with the
following limitations:

 The constraint of time as I had only 4 months to complete our project.

 An intended error on part of the respondent may have crept in.

 Each and every individual’s perception is not same in a particular aspect.

 It was not possible to go to each and every employee to get the questionnaire
filled due to large population size.
