Evaluate Your University’s Strategies

Purpose
An important part of evaluating strategies is determining the nature and extent of changes
in an organization’s external opportunities and threats as well as internal strengths and
weaknesses. Changes in these underlying key factors can indicate a need to change or
modify the firm’s strategies.

Instructions
Discuss with your partner the positive and negative changes in your university’s external
and internal factors. Make a list on the new or emerging opportunities and threats. Then
identify strengths and weaknesses that have changed significantly. In light of the external
and internal changes that were identified, discuss whether your university’s strategies need
modifying. Are there any new strategies that you would recommend? Make a list of
recommendation.

Laguna State Polytechnic University - San Pablo Campus has new or emerging
opportunities and threats that are vital to the community.

Opportunities
1. A partner of the university may help the students to network and land a position
quickly upon graduating.
2. Scholarships grants from partners/sponsors
3. Internship to partner organization
4. Discount or even a scholarship for students in a review center of collaborating
organization.
5. As there are many teaching employees who are in the field, there might be
opportunities for students to land their internship in their workplace to get a
hands-on experience with the program enrolled.
Threats
1. The partnership within the organizations like PRIA might come to an end.
2. There might be a negative public perception on the university.
3. Societal and student perception of education as solely a means to a job
4. University budget crisis
5. Teaching employees will resign to work
Strengths and weaknesses that have changed significantly

One of the strengths of the Laguna State Polytechnic University - San Pablo City
Campus is that there are free tuition fees for all students. With this, students can apply
freely without having to keep in mind the admission fees and tuition fees. However, there
are many extracurricular fees that should be paid. We raised concerns about these fees but
we realized that it is inevitable and still quite okay since there are already no tuition fees
that are much more costly. Moreover, there are already limited facilities like the comfort
rooms but then some of these are closed so you need to go to a different department just to
use them. We thought that it was closed just for the meantime but it's been months since it
was opened. Also, the chairs and equipment are broken so it is not enough for the students
as we are too many to use it altogether. Further, there is a shortage of faculty staff especially
in our department because there are many who went to other places to work. That’s why
there are teachers that don’t even specialize in a particular subject but teach us. We were
not trying to offend anyone but just to raise our concerns. The school’s mission and its
strength is to give its students a quality education but with this setup, we don’t think so.
And since those subjects were board subjects, we worry a lot. We think that the school
doesn’t much respond to the concerns of its students.

Discuss whether your university’s strategies need modifying.

The adage "there's always room for improvement" is frequently uttered in a variety
of contexts, and it applies to every aspect of our lives, including the approaches taken by a
university. There is no such thing as a perfect university strategy, which is why it is
preferable to state that the tactics employed by Laguna Polytechnic University - San Pablo
City Campus must be modified. Ultimately, modifying strategies assists universities in
adapting to a shifting environment, improving student outcomes, remaining at the
vanguard of the discovery of new knowledge, and achieving their goals of providing
excellent education and contributing to society.

Are there any new strategies that you would recommend? Make a list of
recommendations.

industry demands to ensure graduates are well-prepared for the job market.
Develop partnerships with local businesses and organizations to provide
internships, cooperative education programs, and job placement opportunities for

leverage digital tools and platforms to enhance teaching and learning experiences.
This includes adopting online learning platforms, incorporating virtual reality and
augmented reality into education, and utilizing data analytics for personalized
learning and student support.

facilitate collaborative research projects, internships, guest lectures, and
professional development opportunities. This helps ensure that academic programs
align with industry needs and provides students with valuable industry exposure.

principles into campus operations and academic programs. Implement eco-friendly
practices, promote research on environmental issues, and educate students about
sustainable practices and their role in creating a greener future.
