Aqeedah Level 1 - Aqeedatul-Mujmalah

Ustazah Faizah Abdullah

Lesson 1

Introduction
 “Aqeedatul-Mujmalah” written by Al-Habib Abdullah bin `Alawi Al-Haddad
 Subhanallah... This book is just sold for SG$1, SG50cents in Tareem, so that everyone
can have access to it. It’s a very basic book, and it was written a long time ago by
Imam Al-Haddad, and it’s still taught globally. See his sincerity <3

10 Foundations of Every Discipline

1. Definition
o Linguistic Definition: Knowing that something is one
o By the religion: it is a knowledge by which firmness in belief and undisputable
certainty based on proofs is known
2. Topic
o Allah ‫ ﷻ‬and what are the attributes that are necessary, what are
impossible in His Right, and what is possible but not necessary in His Right
o Prophets and what are the attributes that are necessary, what are impossible
in their right, and what is possible but not necessary in their right (e.g. it’s
impossible for prophets to lie)
o Matters that we hear (sami`at) about that we do not see (e.g. heaven, hell,
the Day of Judgement)
3. Fruits
o Knowledge of Allah ‫ ﷻ‬and the clear proofs, success in the eternal abode
4. Virtues
o Most noble knowledge because it is connected to understanding the creator
of the heavens and the earth
o When we know our Lord, we know ourselves and we love Him. Weigh the
importance of this and whatever else we are learning
5. What it’s related to (connection to other knowledges)
o It is a knowledge by itself by which a person’s belief rests on and the
foundations of every other knowledge in Islam
o This is the usul-al`ulum, the origin of all sciences, of all knowledge.
6. Founder
o Originally, it is from every prophet from Prophet Adam to Prophet
Muhammad ‫ ﷺ‬as they all taught about Allah ‫ ﷻ‬via revelation from
Allah ‫ ﷻ‬.
o As for those who wrote it down and structured it as a study:
i. Imam Abu Al-Hasan Al-`Ash`ariyy
ii. Imam Abu Mansur Al-Maaturidiyy (passed 233 AH)
o All aqeedah books go back to these 2 authors
7. Name
o Aqeedah (belief system), Tawheed (from “Oneness”, “Origin”), Usuul
8. Where it’s derived from
o The Qur’an and Sunnah
o We have no doubt about all that is taught because of the strength of these 2
sources
9. The legal ruling of it
o It’s fardhu `ayn (compulsory) for everyone to understand the integrals of
iman, but it’s fardhu kifayah with respect to deeper knowledges on aqeedah
o Fardhu Kifayah (communal obligation) means it is compulsory for enough
people in the community to fulfil this right, but if not enough people know it,
then the whole community is in sin.
i. E.g. in a community, there must be enough people who know how to
bathe a janazah
o There are scholars in our community who delve into the deeper knowledges
of aqeedah.
10. The issues it addresses
o The integrals of iman of what is necessary (wajibat), what is impossible
(mustahilat) and what is possible (ja-izat), and responding to wrong
ideologies and statements

(Please contribute k <3 communal effort insyaAllah <3

So that everyone can get the reward of benefiting everyone insyaAllah)

Intentions for Studying Aqeedah/ Tawheed

Write on the front page of every book that we start 40 intentions!
1. First and foremost always for Allah‫ !ﷻ‬To learn about Allah ‫ﷻ‬, to know Allah
‫ﷻ‬, to gain closeness to Allah ‫ﷻ‬
2. To learn about or deen, Islam, to be firm and unshakeable about our religion
3. To learn what the religion contains; what Allah has created us for, what to believe in
4. To understand and interact with Allah ‫ ﷻ‬the way the Prophet ‫ ﷺ‬did and all
the prophets in history and awliyas in Islam
5. To correct and cleanse in myself anything that might hold about Allah that is not
becoming of a believer and a slave of Allah
6. To be able to fend off any slander against Allah ‫ ﷻ‬and the prophet ‫ ﷺ‬from
myself and those around me
7. For my progeny and the progeny of those around me to hold on to the truth till the
Day of Judgement

ADAB, ADAB, ADAB!

 You can have all the knowledge (information), but if you have no adab (arrogant),
you have nothing.
But if you have no knowledge, but you have adab, you have everything.
 Always be in a state of wudhu!
 Cover our awrah! To keep the company of the angels (not the shayateen). The angels
are very shy; when they see hair, they will run away >.< (they would sleep with their
hijabs on! >.<)
 Siwak! (It’s very disliked by the jinns, and they like to hide them from us, especially
from the seekers of knowledge. So get lots of siwak just in case)

 O Allah whiten my teeth by it, and tighten my gums by it, and make firm my palette
by it, and “afsih?” my tongue with it, and bless me with it, and “athibni alaihi?” O
Most Merciful of Merciful!
 Book
 Writing Materials: Do not put your stationeries, books, and do not leave them on
the floor. Do not put anything on top of your book. Have adab with your
things/books
 Face Qiblah (do not slouch, correct posture) Imagine Rasulullah saw is in front of you
 Best position is to sit in the final position of solat, if cannot, then the middle
tashahud position, if cannot, then cross-legged
 Readiness (prepare before the lesson, read through first)
 Who again? Which habib did that? Read through the class 18x before class & 23x
before class >.< subhanallah
 Punctuality/ Absentee: Always enter class BEFORE teachers, if we are late or aren’t
able to go, there must be a proper valid reason.
 Adab with friends

Imam Abdullah bin `Alawi bin Muhammad Al-Haddad

 We must know our teachers whom we learn from. We want to learn from teachers
who are righteous
 Born in Tareem 5 Safar 1044H (about 100 years ago)
 He was blind at the age of 4. He caught a disease called judri? His mother asked his
teacher Habib Umar Abdul Rahman Al-`Attas to let him regain his sight. At the age of
6, he got his sight - inner sight! Not physical sight.
 He could know what people were thinking, and he
 No one can help spread any saying or books except Allah ‫ﷻ‬
 Story of him praying:
o 200 raka’at of dhuha every day!
 Story of him playing:
o He used to love being on his own. His grandmother would look on and realise
his grandson wasn’t playing and be worried. He knew his grandmother was
worried. So to make his grandmother happy, he would play with his friends
right before his grandmother looks at him. Then when she went back, he
would also go back to being alone.
 Story of his student:
o
 His teachers: Habib Umar Abdul Rahman Al’attas (wrote ratib al-Attas)
 His students: Habib Ahmad bin Zain Alhabsyi
 His children: Habib Hassan bin Abdullah Alhaddad (wrote ratib al-Haddad)
o If we visit imam al-Haddad, it wont be complete until we also visit his son
(their maqam are right beside each other)
 His books: This book, Aqeedatul Islam, Risalah Muawanah, Dewan (collection of all
his poems, “qad kafani `ilmu rabbi”, etc.) and more.
o Go to his maqam, put a hajat in our heart, and open his dewan. The page that
it lands on is our answer.
 His death; he started falling sick on Thurs 27th Ramadan, and 40 days later on the
Tuesday 7th of Zulqaedah 1132H he passed away. He is now buried in Zanbal, Tarim.
 He becomes our teacher if we read his book. May Allah ‫ ﷻ‬make us amongst his
students >.< AMIN
This is the text. Memorise it! So short subhanallah <3
