PROCEDURE FOR VACUUM BOX BUBBLE LEAK TESTING

PROCEDURE

REFERENCE DOCUMENT: ASME Section V Article 10

TESTING EQUIPMENT: Vacuum Box with Window, Vacuum Gauge,

Vacuum Pump, Timer

LOCATION OF TEST: NPCIL.

PERSONNEL CARRYING OUT TEST: Any qualified person under the

supervision of ISNT / ASNT Level 2 or 3 person, qualified in LT.

VACUUM TO BE ACHIEVED : at least 2 psi pressure differential.

TEST DURATION : at least 30 seconds

EXTENT OF INSPECTION : All the joints of the plate

PROCEDURE STEPS:

Step 1: Ensure the Test Job is free from Oil, Grease & Dust.

Step 2: Ensure the safety and reliability of the test set-up for the Job to be
tested. The box shall withstand a pressure of -1 barG.

Step 3: Mount the job on the set-up connecting it to the vacuum pump
through a valve and with a vacuum gauge.

Step 4: Soap solution shall be an industrial soap solution, It shall be applied

by brush or pouring without forming bubbles. Hold for at least 30 seconds.

Step 5 : Check for any leaks.

Acceptance : The area under test is accepted when no continuous bubble
formation is observed.
