You have 40 seconds to look at the text, use
this time to skim the text and understand what
you're reading.
Identify when you will be pausing in the text
by looking for commas and full stops.
Identify the words you will need to stress
while reading.
These words are main subjects, adjectives
and adverbs.
Almost every passage will have a contrast
sentence, using words like however, but,
although etc.
You will need to use rising intonation during
these sentences and falling intonation at the
end of each sentence.
Before the microphone turns on, read the
passage aloud to identify any issues you may
have with the text.
Pretend you are reading the news or acting
when reading, as you will need to show falling
and rising intonations.
Listen to the sample answers and try to sound
like the speaker in sample answers, with a
wide range of vocal features.
DO NOT sound flat when you are speaking.
