ACTIVITY 7: MY SPEECH

Motivation is a driving force that fuels our actions, behaviors, and goals. It is what propels us
forward, pushing us to achieve and excel. Throughout our educational journey, we have explored
different types of motivation, including intrinsic, extrinsic, and amotivation, each with its unique
characteristics and implications.
Let's start with intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation refers to the internal desire and
enjoyment we experience when engaging in an activity for its inherent satisfaction and personal
fulfillment. It is the motivation that comes from within, driven by our genuine interest, curiosity,
and passion. An example of intrinsic motivation can be seen in a student who loves to write
stories. They are motivated by the sheer joy of creating characters, developing plots, and
expressing their creativity through writing. The satisfaction and sense of accomplishment they
derive from the process itself are the driving forces behind their motivation.

On the other hand, we have extrinsic motivation. Extrinsic motivation involves external factors,
such as rewards, recognition, or praise, that drive our behavior and performance. It is the
motivation that arises from external incentives or pressures. For instance, a student may be
extrinsically motivated to study hard and achieve good grades to receive praise from their parents
or to earn a scholarship. While extrinsic motivation can be effective in pushing us towards
certain goals, it is crucial to strike a balance and ensure that intrinsic motivation remains intact.
Over-reliance on external rewards may diminish intrinsic motivation over time. Lastly, there is
amotivation, which refers to a lack of motivation or a feeling of indifference towards a particular
activity or goal. It is the absence of both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Students may
experience amotivation when they perceive a lack of relevance, meaning, or personal connection
to their studies. For example, if a student fails to see the practical application of a subject or finds
it uninteresting, they may struggle to find the motivation to engage and invest effort.

on you? Explain your answer and cite some events in your life.

“challenge yourself." Challenging oneself is an important aspect of personal growth,

development, and achievement. It involves setting goals or taking on tasks that push us outside
of our comfort zones, requiring us to stretch our abilities and expand our limits.

When we challenge ourselves, we often discover new strengths, capabilities, and potential that
we may not have been aware of before. It allows us to break free from self-imposed limitations
and overcome obstacles that may have held us back in the past. Challenging ourselves can lead
to personal and professional growth, increased self-confidence, and a sense of accomplishment
One of the benefits of challenging oneself is that it fosters continuous learning and improvement.
By stepping out of our comfort zones and taking on new challenges, we expose ourselves to new
experiences, ideas, and perspectives. This can enhance our skills, knowledge, and creativity,
enabling us to adapt to changing circumstances and seize new opportunities.

Challenging oneself also helps to build resilience and develop problem-solving abilities. When
we face challenges, we are forced to confront setbacks, failures, and obstacles along the way.
These experiences teach us valuable lessons in perseverance, adaptability, and finding innovative
solutions. Over time, we become more resilient and better equipped to handle future challenges
that come our way.

Based from the different theories learned. Look for an article/research output and write

Theories of motivation

What I learned

Abraham Maslows Heirarchy of Needs

This theory of motivation suggests that individuals have a set of needs that must be
fulfilled in a hierarchical order. Starting from physiological needs like food and shelter,
individuals move up the hierarchy to seek safety, social belongingness, esteem, and self-
actualization. Once lower-level needs are satisfied, individuals are motivated to pursue
higher-level needs, ultimately striving for self-fulfillment and personal growth

Achievement Motivational Theory

focuses on the desire for achievement and success as a major motivator for individuals. It
suggests that individuals with a strong need for achievement have a strong drive to set
challenging goals, seek feedback and recognition, and take personal responsibility for
their performance. This theory emphasizes the importance of intrinsic motivation and the
desire to excel as driving forces behind individuals' pursuit of success and
accomplishment.

Attribution theory
Attribution Theory, developed by Fritz Heider and later expanded by Harold Kelley and
Bernard Weiner, explores how individuals interpret and explain the causes of behavior
and events. It suggests that people attribute the cause of behavior to either internal
(personal dispositions) or external (situational factors) factors. This attribution process
influences individuals' emotions, expectations, and behavior in various contexts, such as
achievement, success, and failure. The theory highlights the importance of understanding
how individuals perceive and interpret the causes of events, as it affects their motivation,
self-esteem, and future behavior.
Wieners model of attribute
focuses on how individuals attribute the causes of success or failure. The model consists of three
dimensions: locus of control (internal vs. external), stability (stable vs. unstable), and
controllability (controllable vs. uncontrollable). These dimensions influence individuals'
emotional reactions, expectations, and subsequent behavior. For example, attributing success to
internal, stable, and controllable factors enhances feelings of self-efficacy and motivates
individuals to persist in their efforts, while attributing failure to external, unstable, and
uncontrollable factors may lead to feelings of helplessness and decrease motivation.

ACTIVITY 12

Directions: What insights did you learn about your Self-image? Which part made
an impact on you? Explain your answer and cite some events in your life.

Self-image refers to the way we perceive and evaluate ourselves. It plays a

significant role in shaping our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Our self-image
can have a profound impact on our overall well-being and how we interact with
others.

One important aspect of self-image is how we perceive our physical appearance.

For example, if someone has a negative self-image regarding their body, they may
constantly criticize their appearance, feel self-conscious, and avoid social
situations that involve showing their body, such as going to the beach or wearing
certain types of clothing. This negative self-image can lead to low self-esteem,
anxiety, and even depression.

Another aspect of self-image is how we perceive our abilities and skills. For
instance, if someone has a negative self-image regarding their intelligence, they
may believe that they are not smart enough to pursue certain career opportunities
or academic goals. This self-doubt can hold them back from reaching their full
potential and pursuing their passions.

Life situations can greatly influence our self-image. For example, if someone
experiences repeated failures or setbacks in their personal or professional life, they
may develop a negative self-image as a result. They may start to believe that they
are not capable of success or that they are inherently flawed. This negative self-
image can become a self-fulfilling prophecy, as they may avoid taking risks or
trying new things due to their fear of failure.

On the other hand, positive life situations can also contribute to a positive self-
image. For instance, if someone receives recognition and praise for their
achievements, they may develop a positive self-image as someone who is capable
and successful. This positive self-image can boost their confidence and motivate
them to continue striving for excellence.

It's important to remember that self-image is not fixed and can be influenced by
various factors, including our thoughts, experiences, and the feedback we receive
from others. Developing a healthy and positive self-image requires self-
compassion, self-acceptance, and challenging negative self-beliefs. Surrounding
ourselves with supportive and positive influences can also help improve our self-
image.
Ultimately, cultivating a positive self-image is a lifelong journey that requires self-
reflection, self-care, and a willingness to challenge and change negative self-
perceptions. It's important to remember that we are all unique individuals with our
own strengths and weaknesses, and our self-worth should not be solely determined
by external factors or societal expectations.

ACTIVITY 13:

According to the coach I interviewed, He said that as coach He firmly believe in

recognizing and embracing the unique needs and abilities of each athlete. To tailor his
strategies accordingly, he start by building a strong rapport with his athletes, getting to
know them on a personal level, and understanding their strengths, weaknesses, and
goals. This allows him to create personalized training plans and provide specific
feedback to help them improve. He also encourage open communication, so athletes
feel comfortable expressing their concerns or sharing their ideas. By adapting coaching
style to each individual, he can maximize their potential and help them achieve their
best performance.
