2. Opening (Retrieval) – How will you "hook" your students into the lesson--at both the thinking and
emotional level?
• What will you do to open the lesson to motivate and engage the students’ interest in the content?
• How will you help students make connections to prior knowledge?
• How will you identify and present your essential questions, Central focus, and Learning Targets (I CAN
statements)?
• How will you identify / teach / assess language demands?
• How will you introduce language supports?
•-I will startopening
Is your by using the strategy,toMath
congruent Ball, where students kick a kickball around and every time the ball lands in
the objective?
a student foot they will be required to give one fact about kickball. With this strategy students will be able to be
engaged as a whole class while make a connection to prior knowledge.
Once done with the math ball strategy, we will have a classroom discussion where I will ask the essential question
of what they think the kickball rules are and how a team wins a kickball game.
I would move one and get their attention to the wall where I would have vocabulary words posted. Students will
get with a partner and discuss each vocabulary word and their definitions. I will review what the rules and
equipment needed for a game of kickball and check in with students for understanding while walking around the
classroom.

3. Teacher Input (Relevance) – What information is needed for the students to gain the knowledge/skill in the
objective? (Be sure you have done a task analysis to break the information/skill into small manageable
steps). How will you use strategies, technology, learning styles? What vocabulary and skills do the students
need to master the material? Are the strategies you plan to use congruent to the objective?
• Model (Routing) – Outline your I DO activities. Be sure to model strategies and academic language
supports needed.
I will share a video of myself playing in a charity kickball tournament. I will then explain the scenario and the
actions that are taking place by implementing vocabulary words.
• Guided Practice – Students demonstrate a grasp of new learning under the teacher’s direct
supervision. The teacher moves around the room to provide individual remediation as needed. “Praise,
prompt, and leave” is an excellent strategy to use. Outline your WE DO activities. Be sure to incorporate
strategies and academic language supports that are needed.
Students will find a partner and discuss previous knowledge of kickball and also share views, rules, equipment
and vocabulary words.
4. Assessment – How will we know that the students have individually mastered the objective? What
evidence will be collected? What will be an acceptable score? What evidence will be collected to demonstrate
mastery
Studentsofwill
language demands?
know they have mastered the objective by successfully participating in a full game of kickball while I observe.
Evidence such as correct ways of playing the game and following appropriate rules would determine the mastery of the
objective.
6. Closure (Re-exposure) – How will you have the students end the lesson/reflect upon what was learned?
I would close the lesson with the 3-2-1 strategy where students will be required to say 3 things they learned, 2 things they
have questions about, and 1 thing they want me to know in order for students to reflect on what they learned.
