Differentiate the types of earth and graticule location.

The difference between the types of Earth coordinates and types of grid systems or graticules
used to represent locations on the Earth's surface.

2 Types of Earth Coordinates (Latitude and Longitude):

Latitude lines run horizontally around the Earth and measure the distance north or south
of the equator, which is 0 degrees latitude. Latitude is a measurement on a globe or map of
location north or south of the Equator. Latitude values range from -90 degrees (South Pole) to
+90 degrees (North Pole), with 0 degrees at the equator. Latitude is used to determine a
location's position in the north-south direction.

Longitude lines run vertically from the North Pole to the South Pole and measure the
distance east or west of the Prime Meridian, which is 0 degrees longitude and passes through
Greenwich, England. Longitude values range from -180 degrees (180 degrees west) to +180
degrees (180 degrees east). Longitude is used to determine a location's position in the east-west
direction.

A graticule is a network of lines that, depending on the application, can be used for
geographic charting, scaling, and focussing. A graticule is not always expressed as a grid, and
there are various other ways to describe coordinates inside the graticule.

Types of Grid Systems or Graticules:

Decimal degrees is a common format for representing Earth coordinates. It uses decimal
fractions of degrees for both latitude and longitude.
Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds (DMS) is another format used to represent Earth
coordinates. It breaks down degrees into minutes and seconds.
Maidenhead Locator System is a grid system commonly used by amateur radio
operators to specify locations on the Earth's surface. It uses a combination of letters and numbers
to represent grid squares, making it easy to communicate precise locations over the radio.

Latitude and longitude are often used to express Earth coordinates, with several formats
such as decimal degrees and degrees, minutes, and seconds. Grid systems, often known as
graticules, are numerous methods of arranging and identifying places on the Earth's surface, such
as Maidenhead Locator, Decimal degrees, and DMS, among others. The format or grid system
used is determined by the demands of the application or navigation system.
