Principal’s Message
Dear Rafflesian Families,

I'm pleased to share some important updates for this week.

The Term 2 examinations for the Year 10 are currently underway and will extend into the following week. Additionally, our
students from Year 1 to Year 9 are gearing up to begin their exams next week. We encourage all students to approach these
assessments with dedication and focus.

It is essential for us to provide support to our students in effectively managing the stress associated with exams, and in
Rafflesia, we are committed to ensure their wellbeing. With this in mind, we provided the Y7 to Year 9 students with a time of
Exam Stress Relief and Relaxation session. Your ongoing support and encouragement during this period are equally
invaluable to our students.

Maintaining a healthy balance between academic studies and leisure activities is crucial for the holistic growth and
development of our students. As educators, we strive to foster an environment where students can excel academically while
also enjoying their time at school.

As we emphasize the importance of balance, let's not forget about our upcoming Swimming Gala scheduled for 8 March
2024. We extend a warm invitation to all to join us and cheer on our talented swimmers. Let's prepare for a delightful and
exciting event together.

Thank you for your support and collaboration as we navigate through this academic year. If you have any questions or
concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at principal.kajang@rafflesia.edu.my

Thank you.

Regards,

Ms. Lisa Yoon Sook Fun

Early Years - IEYC

‘Sink and Float’

We're excited to share the latest adventure in our Early Years students scientific journey: the ‘Sink and Float’ experiment! In this hands-on experiment, our
preschoolers eagerly gathered around a tub of water, armed with various objects of different shapes, sizes, and materials. From coins to wooden sticks, they
eagerly made predictions on which items would sink or float. As each object was carefully placed into the water, giggles of excitement filled the room as they
observed the outcomes. With each discovery, our budding scientists eagerly discussed their observations and recorded their findings. Through this fun
exploration, our students not only learned about basic scientific concepts but also developed fine motor skills and fostered a love for discovery and inquiry.
We invite you to join in on the fun at home! Simply gather some objects and a tub of water, and let the sink and float adventures begin. Who knows what
fascinating discoveries await?
Stay tuned for more exciting experiments as our little scientists continue to explore the interesting facts about the ocean treasures.
Happy experimenting!

Year 1 - IPC
Food Taste Experiment
Year 1 junior scientists ran a tasteful science experiment to
explore their taste buds. We strictly followed food safety and
hygiene procedures while carrying out the experiment. Our
little food tasters were going to find out if their taste buds
are working. We prepared 5 cups of different flavoured
waters: Salty (flavoured with table salt); Bitter (flavoured with
coffee powder); Sour (flavoured with vinegar); Sweet
(flavoured with brown sugar); No flavour (unflavoured
drinking water). They tasted a little of the water in each cup
then rinsed their mouth with water after each tasting.
Besides chewing and swallowing food, after tabulating their
results in the written experiment report, they concluded that
our tongue is used to differentiate and taste food and
flavours! It also helps us to identify if the food is spoiled or
rotten in our usual daily life. Do you know that our brain
could tell us to avoid bitter tastes? It is because most of the
bitter-tasted food are associated with poison. Be cautious!

thinking is like being that detective with your thinking cap on!
It means looking at things carefully, asking questions, and
figuring out the best solutions.

Using Critical Thinking makes a student reflect and

understand their points of views. This skill helps a student
figure out how to make sense of the world, based on personal
observation and understanding.

Why is Critical Thinking Important?

Critical thinking helps you become a super problem

solver! It makes you smarter and more confident in making
decisions. Whether it's in school, playing with friends, or even
helping your family, critical thinking helps you navigate

KRIS | Exam Week (Year 10)

The Year 10 students are studying their hardest for
this week’s exams. Unlike the rest of KRIS students,
our Year 10 seniors have started their exams a week
earlier, as their exam spans two weeks. Examinations
are crucial to assess students’ understanding on the
key concepts taught in class. They are not only for
students to take ownership of their learning
outcomes, but to encourage students to strive to their
full potential as well. Furthermore, these internal
examinations will help to better prepare our students
to build their foundations since they have to put in
extensive effort for their IGCSE preparation taking
place next year. We have no doubt that our
sharp-witted and intellectual Year 10s will pass with
flying colours. Keep going, seniors!
