Past

The past in terms of millions of years of evolutionary memory carried in our genes and chromosomes ( much before we knew
about them), the memory of our parents, family, region, mother tongue, regional food, culture and tradition etc. These memories
are part of us even if we don't want or don't like.
However, it is left to our choice to host or to drive away the past in terms of socio-political ideologies and ideas as well as certain
socio-cultural adaptations or trends.

In either case we need to know the past to make a choice. Knowing the past need not prevent us from change which in any case is
inevitable aspect of evolution in every domain of life. In any case philosophically speaking no one can rewind his/her life.

that to realize our inner self we need to first go beyond our thoughts

It would be pertinent to mention what ― Idries Shah the great Sufi writer says in Reflections
“You have not forgotten to remember; You have remembered to forget.
But people can forget to forget. That is just as important as remembering to remember - and generally more practical.”
Brief journey of civilization
In very simplistic terms the earliest known periods of civilization human beings had less communication, less information, less knowledge, more
brutality, more animalistic lifestyle like cannibalism and a series of wars with little to care about the requirements of resources for usage and
survival.
These were followed by greedy instinct to have and to possess more resources and areas leading to too many silly wars; followed by collective
emotional entertainments leading to many traditional and cultural art forms; followed by urge to communicate leading to reduction in number of
languages so that more people could be communicated to and that’s why while everything else in nature and society proliferated in number,
languages alone kept reducing in number from several thousands to a few hundreds and even out of these few hundred only some 20 plus are in
great use now ; then civilization was pulled by fear or curiosity to know the unknown aspects of life leading to creation of many belief systems,
faiths, religions and rituals; followed by parleys into experimenting with different social systems/political systems to live together with justifiable
contribution to and to share from/of the resources; followed by scientific discoveries to enhance understanding and help living comfortably and to
lead a life away from and besides the clutches of religions and traditions; followed by the recent centuries of dominance based on initially
economic and commercial prosperity which are treated as the religions of present age and to achieve this by various means at national levels
through discoveries of more resources and raw materials useful for human life, through real industrialization, improved and increased agricultural
production or through dominance by military power trying to loot readymade where these things are available and at individual level trying to
equip oneself in the best possible manner to decently survive in this rat race of achieving economic and commercial prosperity. This is of course
definitely the only one aspect of life but a very vital aspect of social living at present.
The march of civilization through all these various stages have produced in its stride many collateral damages and incidental benefits as well
as thrown up excellent exponents in various domains of life. One of the collateral damages of the predominant factor of present age,
namely economic and commercial prosperity, is very stressful and cut-throat competition in all walks of life and therefore comparison which
cannot be wished away. Though we can always choose not to be affected and/or influenced by it or try our best and vie with the rest to become the
best. Choice is always ours.
Of course, everyone knows that there is a larger aspect of life i.e., living aspect of life with cherishing time-tested values, appreciating aesthetic
aspects of culture, importance of certain traditions and so on. This involves THYAGA, GNANA, ARTHA, KARMA,DHARMA ,SEVA which
Civilized behavior of concern with nonviolent
humanitarianism based on the

Mantra of feeling for all by all is the need of the hour.

For this we need to do away with the
following:-
Misinterpretations based on irrelevant
extrapolations;
Over reactions based on hyper instigated
emotions,
Hasty conclusions based on predetermined
presumptive outcomes;
Lame excuses based on pusillanimous escapist
attitudes;
Blind justifications based on
ideological affinities;
Lackadaisical approaches based on
misconceptions of immunity to certain
problems;
Authoritarian behavior based on assumptions of
privileges to boss over;
Resorting to outrages based on presumptions of
perpetual entitlement to everything;
Prolonged reverse discrimination based on
justifications of correcting historical
suppression.

In short, all actions that emerge out of

emotionally charged outbursts or pop up due to
privileged positions and injected through
ideological impetuosity and linger on through
entitlements must all get corrected by

a common denominator called civilized

behavior of concern with violent
behavior humanitarianism based on the
mantra of feeling for all by all.
