Embarking on an engineering educational tour is an exciting opportunity to
explore the world of engineering in a practical and immersive way. These tours offer
a unique and engaging learning experience, allowing students to witness engineering
in action and apply the concepts they have learned in the classroom to real world
scenarios. From visiting iconic landmarks like the New Clark City Athletics Stadium
in Tarlac City, to exploring cutting-edge scientific institutions like Malolos-Clark
Railway Project, these tours provide a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

On our first stop, we visited New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Tarlac City.
The structure of the New Clark City Athletics Stadium in Tarlac City, Philippines, is
intricately connected to its steel design elements. The stadium's architecture features a
unique blend of practicality and luxury, with a focus on showcasing Filipino culture
and resilience. The stadium's design incorporates steel elements like T-frame pillars
and steel trusses supporting the roof. I have also learned that Architect Royal Pineda
emphasized the stadium's "naked architecture," devoid of decorative elements, where
the structure itself serves as its architectural beauty, showcasing battens, rafters, and
supports made from steel. The choice of steel in the stadium's construction not only
enhances its aesthetic appeal but also ensures cost-effectiveness and ease of
maintenance in the long run. Additionally, the stadium's silhouette is inspired by
Mount Pinatubo, with its posts and facade made from volcanic debris, creating a
unique connection to the local landscape and culture. A community of naturally
formed domes made of century-old, salvaged native hardwood like yakal, guijo, and
molave is one of its most remarkable features. These domes, which are a feature of
the art installations at River Park, question space and elicit thought.

For our second stop, we visited Malolos-Clark Railway Project wherein they
also incorporates a structural steel construction method for various components like
platforms, stations, and viaduct bridges. Steel was chosen for its speed of installation,
cost-effectiveness in maintenance, and overall affordability without compromising
safety and quality standards. This choice aligns with the project's goal of efficient
construction and cost management while ensuring structural integrity and safety.
Our third stop was a DDT Konstract, Inc.-built gymnasium in Mandaluyong
City. The building's creative layout, which included basketball courts, galleries,
auditoriums and parking areas, demonstrated a dedication to excellence and
meticulous design. We were deeply moved by the team's inventiveness and were
reminded of the transformational power of infrastructure projects by witnessing it
firsthand. The basketball court's construction astounded me since it is located on the
top floor, necessitating a larger, more robust support. As a result, we have seen the
enormous steel trusses that will support the basketball court.

Lastly, we went to the Metro Manila Subway Project, a nearly 36-kilometer

underground rail system designed to reduce traffic jams. The project's ambitious scale
and technological prowess were highlighted by the debut of the tunnel-boring
machine, which electrified us about Metro Manila's transportation future. We are not
familiar with some of the technology, and because of its progress, their methods and
procedures are intriguing. The Metro Manila Subway is built on steel structures,
which give its subterranean tunnels, stations, and facilities resilience, strength, and
durability. Large span tunnel construction is made possible by high-strength steel
alloys, which maximises subway traffic flow. By ensuring stability and safety, steel
reinforcement reduces the risks associated with seismic activity and unstable soil. An
essential piece of the city's infrastructure is the Metro Manila Subway.

In conclusion, educational trips that introduce engineering students to practical

applications of their coursework can be extremely beneficial. Both the group's
specific needs and the students' learning objectives can be accommodated when
customizing these tours. We students get the chance to see engineering in action, see
famous sites, and get knowledge from professionals in the field thanks to these tours.
Students who take part in these tours can learn important lessons that will help them
in their future careers.
