CLIMATE CHANGE

To start with, climate change can be defined as rapid change on the environment due to
different reasons such as rapid industrialization by humans. U.C Davis defines climate
change as “significant changes in global temperature precipitation, wind pattens and other
measures of climate that occur over several decade or longer”.
Climate change is caused by different things such as manufacturing and

industrialization produce emission mostly burning

fossil fuels to produce energy for making things like iron steel among others. Climate
change has some effects such as dying of wildlife due to shortage of water and also heatwave.
Due to climate change the seasons have changed a lot such as sudden failure in the rainy
season, the increase in the temperature due to global warming. Animal agriculture is
responsible for 15,4of the worlds total greenhouse effect ,the greenhouse gases are produced
such as nitrous oxide (N20),methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide.
It is time for South Africa to seek sustainable alternative to coal mining, which is one of the
causes of climate change. Sustainable alternative by investing into renewable resources such
as use of solar, the country can increase hydro electricity supplies especially in rural areas.
The work done by the COP/IPPC such as promoting on farm water management and storage ,
soil moisture conservation and ecosystem based adaptation such as urban greening ,restoring
of wetlands and upstream forest ecosystems. The work done by the IPCC of giving scientific
information to underpin response to climate change in the context of sustainable
development, Jim Skea said “their ambition as the IPCC is to equip the government with
information on climate change and how to prevent it.
Young people are not only victims to climate change ,they are also valuable contributors to
climate action these young people such as Elizabeth Wathuti she is a climate change
activist . They are agents of change ,entrepreneurs and innovators. Young people can solve
the climate crisis in different ways such as protesting to the government to switch to
renewable source of energy such as hydroelectricity , solar ,biomass among others in areas
such as Limpopo so that the use of coal will reduce ,young people can also solve this by
joining the united #act now campaign for climate sustainability and also young people can
contribute to climate change through sharing information on how to prevent climate change
on social media platforms such as Instagram, twitter , Facebook , YouTube among others .
