1 Scope
This Technical Supply Specification (TL) defines the materials requirements of polyolefins for floor
coverings of the following types:
– TL 52472 Standard type, e.g., as a floor covering for adhesive bonding to particle
boards, for ambulances and other special-purpose vehicles
– TL 52472-A Ultrasonic-weldable type with anti-slip coating on the back, e.g., as a floor
mat for the luggage compartment floor of government vehicles
– TL 52472-B Light-duty type without back coating, e.g., as a covering for the rear seat
backrest

2 Designation
Designation example for the covering of a rear seat backrest:
Covering as per TL 52472-B

3 Requirements

3.1 Basic requirements

Approval of first supply and changes as per Volkswagen standard VW 01155
Emission behavior as per VW 50180; odor testing must be performed as per variants C2 and C3.

It must be possible for the coated, reinforced nonwoven to be properly bonded to the released
wooden substrate board or to the backrest sheet metal (TL 52472-B) using the adhesive released
for ambulances and special-purpose vehicles.

4 Notes on testing

4.1 Mass per unit area

Testing as per DIN EN 12127 on at least 3 round specimens of 100 cm2 taken across the width of
the roll

4.2 Total thickness

Measurement with a reflected light microscope at 30x to 40x magnification or with a thickness
measuring device as per PV 3307 with a test tool diameter of 2,5 mm and an applied weight (pre-
load) of 45 g. Measurements are taken on each raised grain (peak) and also in the grain valley for
type TL 52742.

4.3 Hardness
Testing as per DIN ISO 7619-1 or DIN ISO 7619-2.
Each with an underlying hard fiberboard plate [thickness: (2,30 ±0,15) mm, gross density:
0,95 g/cm3 to 1,00 g/cm3] in the center of the raised grain

4.4 Bending stiffness

The bending stiffness for the coverings is determined during the 3-point bend test as per PV 3903
as flexural stress at a deflection of 6 mm.
Distance between bearing supports: 30 mm
Supports and bending test tool: Radius: 5 mm
Test speed: 50 mm/min
Specimen dimensions: 50 mm × 20 mm
Page 6
TL 52472: 2019-03

Specimens are preferably taken from areas without grain; otherwise, they are taken between the
surface grains.
The bending test tool is placed on the specimen surface. The specimen thickness is determined in
this area beforehand.
The thickness measured in the grain valley with the thickness measuring device (see section 4.2)
is used as the specimen thickness.

4.5 Ball drop test

Testing as per PV 3905 with a ball drop height of 230 mm. The specimens are supported by a 2,3-
mm-thick fiberboard (see section 4.3).

4.6 Wear behavior

Determination of abrasion resistance ("Taber abrasion test") with type H 18 grinding wheels and an
attached weight of 1 000 g, number of cycles: 1 000

4.7 Color fastness to abrasion (rotary abrasion test)

Colorfastness to rubbing test on 100-cm2 round specimens after 1 000 revolutions with the Schop-
per abrasion testing machine against undyed nettle cloth
Curvature of the specimen: 5 mm
Abrasion area: 50 cm2
Load: 9,81 N
Specimen size of nettle cloth: Approx. 29 cm × 9,5 cm
The nettle cloth is clamped into the holding fixture of the test machine together with an equally
sized wool felt backing as per DIN EN ISO 12947-1. The nettle cloth used must correspond to ECE
cotton woven fabric as per DIN EN ISO 105-X12.

4.8 Aging in abrasive disinfectant

Requirement applies only to ambulances. Specimens with a minimum size of 150 mm × 150 mm
are immersed in accepted, commercially available disinfectant solution and aged for 1 h.

4.9 Droplet test

Droplets of approx. 0,1 ml are applied to the surface using a pipette and, after an exposure time of
10 min, the specimen is dried for 30 min at 60 °C in a forced-air oven with closed damper. The
surface is evaluated 24 h later.
The surface resistance is tested with the following cleaning agents:
– Aqueous tenside solution with 0,5 volume percent tenside
– Ammonia, alcoholic wash solution, undiluted
– Cleaner's naphtha (special boiling point spirit as per DIN 51631 – 2)
– Methylated spirits (ethanol 99% denatured with 1% methyl ethyl ketone (MEK))
– Isopropanol/n-heptane, 50:50
Page 7
TL 52472: 2019-03

4.10 Abrasion behavior after 10 crockmeter strokes with a woven cloth soaked with
cleaning agent
Testing as per PV 3906 with the cleaning agents from section 4.9. A rubbing cloth is considered
"soaked with cleaning agent" if it has been immersed for at least 1 min in the respective medium
and then has been blotted briefly between sheets of filter paper. Changes in gloss level must be
indicated only if they cannot be removed with a damp cloth.
