Mathematical Concept

Phia:As you can see in our mathematical investigation we have a triangle. Given its pattern we
can derive it as the 1st position, 2nd position, 3rd position, 4th position, 5th position. We call it
the variable n, 1 to the first, 2 to the second, 3 to the third, 4 to the fourth, and lastly 5 to the
fifth.

Trixie: From this we can determine the number of point that we have on the triangle. In simple
term we can just count them(Count the points) and so on. As you can see we have created a
sequence. These are the data that is being generated from the Figure, that we have here.

Rochelle:From this we can create an observation. Here, we have two consecutive number 1 and
3. We have to find their difference. The difference of 3 and 1 is 2, 6 and 3 is 3, 10and 6 is 4, 15
and 10 is 5. We assume that the next number should be 6. The following term nth, n,
A(subscript)n correspond to the formula that were trying to find.

Jazznel: Now we can continue doing subtraction like what you earlier. 3 minus 2 is 1, 4 minus 3
is 1, 5 minus 4 is 1. The moment we see a constant sequence we need to STOP doing
subtraction. From the sequence we subtracted it twice to find the constant sequence.

Kirvy: What will we do now is to Identify its Mathematical Function, we can use the Quadratic
Function. A Quadratic function is given in the form of y=Ax^2+Bx+C. The f(x) (f of x) is replaced
with y. Then we graph the table. If x=(equal to) 1 the y is A+B+C where we input the 1 to the x
variable. When x= 2 then y=4A+2B+C. If x=3 then y=9A+3B+C. If x=4 the y=16A+4B+C. Then
lastly if x=5 the y=25A+5B+C.

Nasbia: Now we have to find the difference betwwen 4A+2B +C and A+B+C. You maybe maybe
wondering why do we have to do this, well were trying to find the constant sequence. Lets
continue what is the difference between 4A+2B+C and A+B+C is 3A+B. The difference between

Charizz: Since these four term is different, then we have to continue doing subtraction. The
difference between 5A+B and 3A+B is 2A. And the Difference between 7A+B and 5A+B is

constant sequence. As far as I've concluded the no. of points and the Graph of the Quadratic
function have the same structure. Since 2A and 1 has the same structure we can repesent it as
the variable P. Then the 3A+B and 2 are also the same, so we can represent them as the
variable Q. Lastly, the A+B+C and 1 will be represented as Y.
