What is Product Carbon
Footprint?
The Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is the
best method for determining the climate
impact of a product. Throughout a
product's entire lifecycle – from raw
material extraction to recycling or disposal
– climate-related impacts appear in the
form of greenhouse gas emissions. The
product's Carbon Footprint helps identify,
analyze, and reduce or (ideally)
completely avoid these impacts with the
right measures.
In addition to the product-related carbon
footprint, there is the Corporate Carbon
Footprint (CCF), which takes into account
the company's impact. There are
standards and norms that are constantly
being developed for the determination of
PCF and CCF.

Phases of EPD Project
Step 1 – Collect data: including raw material,
resource consumption and waste data for
your product.
Step 2 – Conduct a life-cycle assessment: the
LCA will need to conform to the PCR.
Step 3 – Prepare background report for EPD:
the background report (known as an LCA) is
a vital accompaniment to your public EPD. It
provides details about the LCA methodology,
assumptions and approach employed to
support 3rd verification, as well as the
standards that you have adhered to.
Step 4 – 3rd party verification: every
EPD needs to be verified by an
independent third party verifier before
it can be published. This ensures
accuracy, reliability and ensures that
the EPD conforms to the requirements
of the relevant PCR.
Step 5 – Publication: Once your EPD
has been verified by an independent
third party, it is ready to be put into the
public domain via publication. To do
this, you need to submit the EPD
document for publication to the
program operator, who will process,
register and publish your EPD

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism
(CBAM) is a carbon tariff on carbon
intensive products, such as cement and
some electricity imported by the European
Union.[2] Legislated as part of the
European Green Deal, it takes effect in
2026, with reporting starting in 2023.
Europe’s future depends on a healthy
planet. EU countries are committed to
achieving climate neutrality by 2050,
delivering on the commitments under the
Paris Agreement. The European Green Deal
is the EU’s strategy for reaching the 2050
goal.
