What’s New

Why Festival?
Festival dances are social moves performed to the solid beats of percussion
instrument by a local area of individuals having a similar culture. It is generally done
out of appreciation for a Supporter Holy person or in thanksgiving of an abundant
gather. Festival dances might be strict or mainstream in nature. In any case, the best
thing about celebrations is that they add to the happy making and merriments where
they are praised, the justification for why they are called celebration moves all things
considered. Festival dances draw individuals' way of life by depicting individuals'
lifestyle through developments, outfits and carries out innate to their place of
beginning.
A portion of the well known festivals in the nation incorporate Sinulog of Cebu,
Dinagyang of Iloilo, Ati-atihan of Kalibo, Aklan, Buyogan and Lingayen of Leyte,
Bangus of Dagupan, T'nalak of South Cotabato, Masskara of Bacolod City, Bambanti
of Isabela, and Kadayawan of Davao. Numerous others, particularly from Luzon, are
currently clearing their method for joining the country's festival of festivals, the Aliwan
Holiday which is done in the period of April. Filipinos do festivals principally to
celebrate. There are large number of purposes behind this goal. We commend our
solidarity in the midst of the variety of societies and we praise our industry achieving
an abundant reap. Festivals have been a reliable group delivering action prompting an
upliftment of a local area's economy because of its travel industry and amusement
esteem. Essentially, Festivals are a type of diversion that draw in unfamiliar and
homegrown travelers to visit a spot ultimately prompting the height of the Filipino's
personal satisfaction.
Whatever festival we celebrate, be it done to respect a strict symbol or
commend our industry. Festival dances are impressions of the solidarity of the Filipino
people group that in spite of the financial, social, natural, and political difficulties we
face consistently, there can be no other race stronger than our own.
Religious and Secular Festivals
As mentioned earlier, festivals may either be religious, in honor of a certain
religious icon or secular or non-religious, in thanksgiving or celebration of people’s
industry and bountiful harvest. The following are some of the said festivals.

What is It
Let us recall the basic skills in folk dancing.
Locomotor Movements
These are movements that allow you to move from one point in space to
another. It is canned from two, “locos” which means place and “motor” which means
movement. They include the following:
Preparatory movement:
STEP – this is the basic of all locomotor movements. It prepares you to move in any
direction you wish to go. It is defined as transfer of weight equally distributed
to both of your feet. Now, let your right foot carry it all. You got it! That’s what
you call a step.

Downloaded by Roch Asuncion (asuncionroch@gmail.com)
lOMoARcPSD|26631399

WALK – series of steps executed by both of your feet alternately in any direction. In
executing a walk, observe that there’s this moment when both feet are in
contact with the ground while one foot supports the weight and transfers it to
the other.
RUN – series of walks executed quickly in any direction wherein only one foot stays
on the ground while the other is off the ground.
JUMP – this movement is simply described by having both feet lose its contact with
the ground. There are five ways to do it:
▪ Take off from one foot and land on the same foot.
▪ Take off one foot and land on the other foot.
▪ Take off one foot and land on both feet.
▪ Take off from both feet and land on one foot.
▪ Take off from both feet and land on both.

Non-Locomotor movements

These are movements that are performed in one point in space without
transferring to another point. They don’t allow you to move from one place to the other.
These movements include:
FLEXION – it is the act of decreasing the angle of a joint. Another term for flexion is
to bend, if you bend a joint, like your elbow or knee, you are performing
flexion.
EXTENSION – this is the opposite of flexion. You are extending if you are increasing
the angle of a joint. Stretching is another word for extension.
CONTRACTION – a muscle movement done when it shortens, narrows, and tightens
using sufficient amount of energy in the execution.
RELEASE – a muscle movement opposite to contraction done when it let goes or let
loses of being held into a shortening movement.
COLLAPSE – deliberately drop the exertion of energy into a body segment.
RECOVER – the opposite of collapse. This is to regain the energy exerted into body
segment.
ROTATION – to rotate is to move a body segment allowing it to complete a circle with
its motion. It’s not only limited to circumduction which is done in ball and
socket joints. Rotation can also be done in wrists, waist, knees, and
ankles.
TWIST – to move body segment from an axis halfway front or back or quarter to the
right or left as in the twisting of the neck allowing the head to face right or
left and the like. Pivot – to change the position of the feet or any body part
that carries the body’s weight allowing the body to face in a less than 360
degrees turn. Turn – to move in a turning movement with a base of support,

Task 4: Watch your weight

In this activity you will figure out if your weight, relative to your height, is normal
or not through the Body Mass Index (BMI). After finding whether or not you have a
normal BMI, you will be provided with inputs on physical activities to maintain or
improve your weight based on the Physical Activity Pyramid. This is also to orient you
with the right kinds and amount of food to eat based on the Philippine Food Pyramid
and/or My Food Plate.

1. Come up with your BMI computation using the following formula:

W (weight in kilogram)
BMI =
H2 (height in meter2)
2. Describe your BMI based on the following classifications:
• Below 18.5 Underweight
• 18.5 – 24.9 Normal
• 25 – 29.9 Overweight
• 30 and above Obese

3. What is your BMI classification? Try computing your height and weight.
Write it in your PE notebook.
