NICOSIA, Cyprus — Prepare to embark on a profound exploration at Gallery K's forthcoming
exhibition, where antiquity and innovation converge in a compelling dialogue. Titled 'Archaic Cypriot
Amphorae in Dialogue with Contemporary Cypriot Artists,' this exhibition curated by Gallery K
Cultural Events beckons discerning audiences to delve into the interplay between ancient and
modern artistic interpretations.

Scheduled to open at Gallery K in Nicosia in March 2024, the exhibition will feature a carefully
curated selection of paintings, sculptures, and ancient ceramic amphorae. Among these works are
twenty-two remarkable artworks by eight prominent Cypriot artists from the 1960s, displayed
alongside four magnificent large Cypriot amphorae dating back to the 8th century BC. These
exceptional pieces, sourced from prominent Cypriot collections, have garnered acclaim in exhibitions
both locally and internationally.

Through meticulous curation, the exhibition unveils a mesmerizing juxtaposition of ancient

amphorae, adorned with geometric motifs, alongside the modernist works of contemporary Cypriot
artists. This deliberate pairing invites contemplation of the enduring resonance between past and
present, challenging viewers to discern the subtle threads of continuity that weave through
millennia of artistic expression.

The inspiration for this innovative exhibition stems from the renowned Christakis Hadjiprodromou
collection. For over two decades, these ancient amphorae adorned the Palm Beach Hotel in Larnaca,
embodying the timeless allure of their enduring beauty and historical significance. The geometric
motifs and shapes depicted on the amphorae resonate strongly with the works of artists such as
Christoforos Savva, Stelios Votsis, Andreas Chrysochos, George Sfikas, Katy Phasouliotou Stefanidou,
and the sculptures of George Kyriacou, fostering a dialogue between past and present artistic
traditions.

At its core, the exhibition honours the pioneering spirit of the 1960s generation of Cypriot artists,
who shattered traditional conventions and ushered in modern ideas that continue to shape the art
landscape of Cyprus. Against the backdrop of the country's historic declaration of independence, this
period marked a renaissance of spiritual and artistic vitality, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural
identity of Cyprus for generations to come.
