INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL MARKETING:
Digital marketing is the component of marketing that uses the Internet and online-based
digital technologies such as desktop computers, mobile phones, and other digital media and
platforms to promote products and services.

Digital marketing important:


Any type of marketing can help your business thrive. However, digital marketing has
become increasingly important because of how accessible digital channels are. In fact, there
were 5 billion internet users globally in April 2022 alone.
From social media to text messages, there are many ways to use digital marketing
tactics in order to communicate with your target audience. Additionally, digital marketing has
minimal upfront costs, making it a cost-effective marketing technique for small businesses.

Social media marketing:


Social media marketing means driving traffic and brand awareness by engaging people
in discussion online. You can use social media marketing to highlight your brand, products,
services, culture, and more. With billions of people spending their time engaging on social
media platforms, focusing on social media marketing can be worthwhile.
The most popular digital platforms for social media marketing are Facebook, Twitter,
and Instagram, with LinkedIn and YouTube not far behind. Ultimately, which social media
platforms you use for your business depends on your goals and audience.

Digital marketing has become prominent largely because it reaches such a wide
audience of people. However, it also offers a number of other advantages that can boost your

How to create a digital marketing strategy:


For many small businesses and beginner digital marketers, getting started with digital
marketing can be difficult. However, you can create an effective digital marketing strategy to
increase brand awareness, engagement, and sales by using the following steps as your starting
point.

Set SMART goals:


Setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely (SMART) goals is crucial
for any marketing strategy. While there are many goals you may want to achieve, try to focus
on the ones that will propel your strategy forward instead of causing it to remain stagnant.

Create a budget:
A budget ensures you’re spending your money effectively towards your goals instead of
overspending on digital marketing channels that may not provide the desired results.
Consider your SMART goals and the digital channel you’re planning to use to create a
budget.

Select your digital marketing channels:


From content marketing to PPC campaigns and more, there are many digital marketing
channels you can use to your advantage. Which digital marketing channels you use often
depends on your goals, audience, and budget.

Refine your marketing efforts:


Make sure to analyze your campaign's data to identify what was done well and areas for
improvement once the campaign is over. This allows you to create even better campaigns in
the future. With the help of digital technologies and software, you can obtain this data in an
easy-to-view dashboard. Mailchimp’s digital marketing analytics reports will help you keep
track of all your marketing campaigns in one centralized location.

CANVA
“Canva will play an important role in helping us to continue scaling our brand and
marketing efforts while empowering our growing team to create content rapidly.”
Launched in 2013, Canva is an online design and visual communication platform with a
mission to empower everyone in the world to design anything and publish anywhere.

Canva works:
Canva is easy to sign up for, using either an email, Google account, or Facebook login.
Once an account is created, for free, you can pick if you're using it as a teacher, student, or
anything else. This will tailor the experience to your needs, making it simpler to search.

Best Canva features:

Canva is crammed full of features but many are education specific. Before getting into
that it's worth noting that Canva auto-saves. This is a great feature both for teachers and
students as it means never worrying about losing work – something Google's ecosystem of
tools has got many people used to.

Canva’s side menu:

There’s another Home button for you in case you need to reset after a deep dive
somewhere. Then there’s Your projects where you can find and organize your designs.
Create folders to keep things tidy and share individual designs or folders with collaborators
too. Templates takes you to thousands of designs to help you start inspired. The
Recommended tab shows you things you may like based on your designs. The Shared with
you page makes it easy to find collaborative designs. Trash has any designs, images or
videos you’ve deleted.

Creating a team with Canva:

The next menu item is Create a team, this lets you create an online team, which lets you
collaborate on designs, brainstorm ideas and leave feedback for one another all within the

Using and customizing templates:

One of the best resources for new designers is our endless library of templates. Expert
designers make templates and show you good design principles in practice and what’s
possible with Canva. Once you find a template you like, open it in the editor and you’ll see
that all the design elements can be customized and edited to best suit your design needs.

Using search and personalizing the editor:

Use keywords in the search bar to quickly find new elements and templates, or browse
your own designs and uploads. Improve your workflow by customizing the side panel in the
editor by clicking MORE at the base of the side panel then choose which content you’d like
to add for quick access.

Using and editing elements:

From high-quality photos and free GIFs (opens in a new tab or window) to stock
videos and background music, Canva has a huge library of design elements – most a
free, some are for Pro accounts and some have a small fee. In the side tab, click
Elements and use the search bar to find elements, scroll sideways through different
categories, or scroll down to see some example elements for different categories.
Double click, or click and drag, to add the element to your design and customize as
you need.

Finding fonts and using text:

There’s a whole world of fonts to choose from in Canva and if you want to
learn more about typography, check out this free course on typography and layout
(opens in a new tab or window). To add text to your design, go to Text in the side
panel. Search for font styles in the search bar, or use one of the preset text styles to
easily click and drag a heading, subheading or body text. You’ll find more text
editing options if you click the three dots at the right end of the text editing menu.

Uploading and using media:


Upload photos, illustrations, and videos via Uploads in the side panel. Click
and drag media directly into a design and customize it from there. Your uploaded
media will appear in the Uploads tab.

Sharing and collaborating on designs:

To add a collaborator, who can leave feedback as comments in your design, in


the top right corner click Share. Type in their email address, include a message or
notes, set their level of access (options include full edit access, can comment, can
view ( can’t comment or edit) and then click send.

Saving and organizing documents:

Canva autosaves your design as you go. If you want to manually save your
design to a specific folder, in the top menu click File, then Save to folder, then
choose your desired folder. You can also create a new folder there too.

Conclusion
During my internship, I gained valuable insights into the dynamic realm of digital
marketing and honed my skills using Canva. The platform's user-friendly interface facilitated
quick design iterations, enhancing our ability to adapt to evolving campaign needs. Overall,
the experience underscored the pivotal role of digital tools like Canva in optimizing
marketing strategies for a more visually engaging and impactful audience reach.
