As an exercise in defining supervision, think about all the different tasks that are part of the supervisor’s
job. Make a list of these tasks on the next page and discuss them with your manager. Ask if you will
actually be evaluated on how well or poorly you perform each task.

Supervision Task List:

 Supervising
 Observing workflow and the productivity of employees, making sure they are still up to that
task.
 Negotiating with suppliers
 Overseeing the overall operation of the organization
 Checking and monitoring the attendance of every employee
 Making daily reports
 Budgeting
 Transmitting management directives
 Delegate tasks
 Set goals for performance and deadlines
 Ensure employees understand their duties

Questions about Delegation:

Based on the self-assessment above, do you have questions about delegation? What assignments are
usually delegated in your work unit? What systems of accountability have worked in your unit? What
types of authority do you need to accomplish the work assigned to your unit?

Nothing. I have fully understood what it meant to be delegated a task, what it actually meant is that
when your supervisor entrusted you with a particular task, he/she is expecting you to get the job done on
a time specific. Although I am still a student, our professors are deemed to be our supervisors in which
they assign us an activity within a timetable, may it be a reporting, an essay, a thesis and many more so.

The system of accountability present at school is if we are unable to comply with the delegated task,
automatically we will get a failing grade making us unable to proceed to the next semester/year.
