TaiJi PID User Guide

The first step in using Taiji PID is to add the Taiji PID computer to the respective DCS network
of each plant and establish the OPC communication between Taiji PID laptop and the DCS
network. Since each plant uses different network configuration, the IP configuration has to be
different for each plant or each type of DCS network.
Name of the Taiji PID laptop : ‘TAIJIPIDSTN’
: Dell Precision 7710, Windows 7 Professional
: TaiJi PID R310.1 – Single Seat License

2. Open the TaiJi PID
a. On the Desktop, locate and open the TaiJi PID shortcut
or
b. Click Start Windows Button, locate Honeywell Folder, and open TaiJi PID
3. Work Tree Set Up
a. On the Project Tab, Select New, Select Project.
b. Rename the project
c. Select the newly configured project.
d. On the Project Tab, Select New, Select New DCS or New PLC
e. Rename the DCS / PLC
4. DCS Configuration

5. Test Case Configuration
a. Select the newly configured DCS
b. On the Project Tab, Select New, Select New Test Case
c. New Window will be opened, select the Loop Type and Test Type
i. Single Input Single Output (SISO)  For single loop
This option can be used for Controller in Auto Mode (Closed Loop) or in
Manual Mode (Open Loop). Up to 10 controller at a time.
ii. Cascade  For cascade controller
Cascade can only test and tune 1 pair of cascade controller at a time.
Primary/Master Controller can be used in Auto Mode (Closed Loop) or in
Manual Mode (Open Loop) but the Secondary/Slave Controller can only
be used in Auto Mode (Closed Loop)
d. Select Configuration Tab
Set the configuration as follow:
i. Sampling Time : 1 (one) second
ii. Select Continuous Test for unlimited time of testing or Set Test Length
for limited time test.
Note: The modelling needs at least 150 good data; please set the test
length appropriately so that TaiJi PID can get the data needed.
iii. Type in the Loop Name
iv. Set the Settling time based on the nature of the process
v. Click Read values from OPC button
TaiJi PID will read the values from the OPC for the parameters already
set up in the DCS Configuration tab.
vi. Type in the OP and PV Scale High and Low for each loop
e. Select Diagnosis Tab
The diagnosis tab allows the tester to get the performance of the controller
before and after the tuning and to compare the performance of them
For this step, please put the Test On/Off in the loop that will be tested “ON” and
put the Test On/Off in the loop that will not be tested “OFF”. Bulk Edit for “ON”
and “OFF” all loops can be done by clicking Turn All Loops On or Turn All
Loops Off
After all ready, click Start Data Collection
f. Select Testing Tab
Click Stop Test when using the Continuous Test in the Configuration Tab.
Otherwise, wait until the test stop by itself.
g. Select Identification Tab
Process Variable Tab shows the response of a process or/and controller during
the testing. The data will be used for developing process model and better
control tuning by TaiJiPID.
Model Tab shows the process model and process model step response. Click
Identify to develop the model.
h. Select Tuning Tab
Tuning Tab shows the model step response, the model closed loop step
response and recommended PID tuning parameter for the controller(s).
