FAMILY
Research Question: What is the
reason behind high divorce
rates in modern societies?
1. Introduction
I have chosen Family as my individual research because of the expansion of
Divorce rates everywhere throughout the world, despite the fact that a few
nations might be extremely instructed and mindful of the impacts of separation
so as yet expanding quickly.

As I would see it, there is no particular definition of family. The significance of

Family may differ for every individual except the fundamental meaning of family
is a group of individuals who are identified with one another living together,
however, the inquiry is do they in every case live with eachother?
Grown-ups are increasingly centered around their work life and can't speak with
one another or with their kids frequently, therefore, guardians drift apart from
one another and this causes contentions, which would then be able to develop
and turn out to be a piece of the long-term causes of divorce.

2. Divorce Rates in countries

According to Statistics found in 2017, Country with the highest divorce rate was
Luxembourg rising by 87%, followed by Spain with 65% and then France with
55% as compared to the country with the lowest marriage separations which is
India by 1% only.
As far as global statistics,UAE had 30% couples divorces within the first year
of marriage which is shocking (unknown, 2017)

Divorce has become common and it leaves one parent looking after the
children, most reasons are associated with women, Moreover, women having
a greater financial independence so they don’t need a man as a breadwinner
or choosing to raise children on their own without the father around as well as
Domestic Violence hence men are offenders in most domestic violence and the
victims are usually women and sometimes children, it is hard to find out when
domestic violence is involved in a family because it is usually not reported.
Other reasons of this increase may be lack of commitment because they think
that it is very expensive to raise children so people don’t want to get married or
decide to give up later on.
3. Issues of Divorce

Issue 1: Effects of divorce on family members

As of 2019,the nation with the divorce rates is Russia as a result of 4.7 per 1000
population from 147 million population in total and the lowest divorce rate is in
Guatemala having 0.4 divorces per 1000 population from 17 million population
in total (Author, 2019).
A few reasons of separations may include changes of the law which have made
divorce simpler, decline of communities as separation never again brings a
couple disgrace and objection. In addition, guardians disengagement with their
kids can likewise be an explanation of divorce as they probably won't think
about their kids when settling on such a choice .

As per a blog distributed in March 2019 by Puja Sethi, Each individual

experiences their own individual encounters and has an approach to manage
circumstances, so this is how divorce influences and affects ladies, men and
kids.

1. Effects of divorce on Women

Various women see a modification in their psychological state. This may be by

the extra stress of caring for her children while dealing with a sepration or
dealing with the obviously predictable issues that rise during a divorce . A great
part of the time, emotional and financial pressure are the two major issues for
women encountering a divorce.

Subsequent to experiencing a separation and perceiving how somebody they

once cherished do such a great deal harm to them may make it harder for her
to trust anyone later on. These trust issues will not only extend to potential
partners or men in general but may even cause her to re-think her own choices
and doubt herself.

2. Effects on Men

Men have a harder time dealing with divorce than women . It’s thought that this
might be achieved by the social standard of men not discussing their feelings.
In the article published in The Huffington Post in 2013, men experiencing a
separation will in general experience depression since they don't have a clue
how to communicate the misfortune they're feeling. As expressed above
concerning certainty and trust issues, similar to women, men additionally
experience practically identical sentiments.

3. Effects on Children

Youngsters experience significant behavior issues, low school preformance,

outrage issues, and poor social skills. A negative divorce consequences are
due to the transition a child has to make between a 2 home family, financial
custody and emotional support.
Much of the time, adolescent youngsters even drop out of school and get into
drugs, young men will in general have more prominent issues when dealing
with broken homes, they reflect more aggressive behavior and are less
engaged in school hence resulting in fights with peers. On the other hand,
young ladies show higher paces of sadness which disturbs their concentration
level at school.

Issue 2: Age and Marriage

Various examinations show that age is a solid indicator of separation henthfort,

people who marry at a youthful age will in general be at a high danger of divorce
since most young couples essentially don't have the maturity, adapting skills,
and the commitment it takes to make marriage last, Yet as recommended in the
spearheading work of Becker, Landes and Michael (1977), the age at marriage
- divorce relationship might be non-linear, Hence relationships that happen at
a late age may really be more unsteady than those contracted in the early or
mid twenties since people may agree to more unfortunate matches as time
passes.

A study based on 2002 data observed that the separation risk for individuals
who wedded in their thirties had a consistent and lovable household, henceforth
divorces past the age of 30 are likely to increase by 5 percent per year only.
Additional tests revealed that the relation seems to function more or less the
same for everyone: male or female, less or more educated, religious or
irreligious so in conclusion the late twenties seems to be the best time to tie the
knot. (Bitter, 2017)
Issue 3: Factors of High Divorce rates

As Claimed by (https://yourdivorcequestions.org), Over the years, analysts

have decided certain factors that put individuals at higher risk of divorce from
which incorporate the following:

Youthful age. Marriage at a youthful age increases the probability of separation,

particularly in the early long stretches of marriage.

Less education. Research shows that those with some advanced degree have
a lower possibility of separation than those who have not been educated.

Less pay. Having a low salary may put couples under financial pressure and
arguments that may prompt separation.

No strict alliance. Analysts have evaluated those with strict religious beliefs are
less likely to divorce than those with no religious affiliation.

Guardians' separation. Unfortunately, encountering the separation of your folks

doubles your risk of separation and if your companion also experienced their
parents’ divorce than your risk for divorce triples. This does not mean you are
inclined to having your marriage end in divorce, just that you should be
progressively mindful of your marriage patterns and work harder for an effective
marriage.

Issue 4:Poverty and Divorce

In Europe, poverty is a direct cause of divorce, it can result to speration because

couples can no longer tolerate the economic hardship in the family. When poverty
manifests in the family, it will never be the same again as the mother will be grumbling
constantly, the husband on his part will keep late nights trying to avoid the wife and
children who at this time are likely to complain of hunger and starvation. When the
action of the man becomes unbearable for the woman, she may begin to search for
another man to take adequate care of her needs so it is likely that once the man notices
such an action, the tendency is for divorce to result, while the children will be left to
suffer untold hardships depending on who looks after them. (Oathman, 2018)
As Divorce may have many negative aspects, it can be positive too since women no
longer have to accept the expressive job of housework and are able to support
themselves after divorce. In other cases, where the children are treated well but parents
have grown apart or have developed a less intimate relationship. The difference here
would be that parents would discuss this with their children before going forward with
this decision. Here, if everyone agrees, families may become happier.
Among the problems that have been known to be associated with single parent families
are underachievement at school by children and a higher risk of problems later in life
such as criminal behavior and inability to sustain a relationship. We can decrease
divorce rates globally by re-educating people on their religions and their relation to
divorce since most religions do not approve of divorce or do not recommend it as well
as creating campaigns to raise awareness about divorce.
4. Causes and Consequences of divorce

There are many causes of high divorce rates but causes vary depending on the
culture, some causes may be Financial Problems, this is the most popular
cause of divorce according to researches, families may separate since no one
would be willing to live in a stressful and problematic family.
Lack of equality, when one partner feels that they take on more responsibility
in the marriage, it can alter their view of the other person and resentment. As
well as Abuse, it doesn’t always stem from the abuser being a “bad” person;
deep emotional issues are usually to blame. Regardless of the reason, no one
should tolerate abuse and removing yourself from the relationship safely is
important.

Consequences of divorce can especially affect kids and some single parents,
some consequences of divorce are Grief because Divorce is a death of a union,
and therefore everyone involved will feel grief and loss during a divorce. If there
are children involved, they will experience severe grief over the loss of being
with both parents together, Financial Stress is a consequence of divorces since
the average divorce in America costs between $15,000-$20,000, plus
relocation and replacement expenses after the household items are divided up.
Dividing of memories and belongings, while household items and family photos
don’t hold a lot of intrinsic value, dividing them between parents can be heart-
wrenching because household items represent memories and commitment.

5. Courses of Action:

In order to lower divorce rates globally

1. Each country should have restricted marriage and divorce laws since
developing laws for divorce will restrict families of this decision hence
they will be thinking the fine or punishment they’d have to deal with later
and so they might try to find a solution to their problems.
2. Schools and Universities should educate students about commitment in
marriages and how to avoid divorce. All students should be aware of
marriage and all the possible arguments that can happen during that
period and they should be taught how to deal with these kind of problems
and how to keep their family healthy.
3. Teachers should make students raise awareness about high divorce
rates in school so it doesn't happen in the next generation. If every
school decides to raies awareness about divorce and make campagins
against divorce, the world can change and it may be bwtter for the
coming generation.
4. Couples can go to a counsellor to learn how to avoid arguments and how
to deal with them. Early married couples may experience many problems
in the beginning of the marriage and so they can go for relationship
therapies to learn how to maintain a healthy relationship and household
before its too late.
5. Couples in marriages should unite together and divide housework
equally between them. One of the main causes of divorce is inequality
in housework so if couples work together and divide house domestics
equally, less divorce can occur in many households.

Conclusion:
I can conclude after this research that there is many reasons for high divorce
rates like change in lifestyle, financial pressure and arguments and they don't
occur in only modern societies but in lower class too since it can be effected by
poverty as well and divorce have spreaded globally, my perspective has
changed after this research thus before I've done this research, I thought you
can't do anything to help lower divorce rates in the world but now I've discovered
that you can help in lowering divorce rate even by the smallest action like raising
awareness. I think people and communities should work on doing so to create
a bright future for new generations without problems, however, I've learnt that
some countries can avoid high divorce rates by making strict laws and providing
goods and equal education for everyone.
