Title: Maximizing Parents' Involvement in Monitoring Students' Performance in School: A

Philippine Action Research

Abstract:
This action research aims to explore strategies to maximize parents' involvement in
monitoring their children's performance in school within a Philippine context. The study
seeks to identify effective practices that can strengthen the collaboration between parents
and schools in monitoring students' academic progress, ultimately leading to improved
student outcomes. By involving parents in the monitoring process, this research aims to
foster a more supportive and engaged educational environment.

Introduction:
Parents play a crucial role in their children's educational journey, and their involvement has
been consistently linked to positive student outcomes. However, there is a need to explore
effective ways to maximize parents' involvement, specifically in monitoring students'
performance. This action research aims to identify strategies that can strengthen the
partnership between parents and schools, fostering a collaborative and supportive
environment.

Research Questions:
1. What are the current barriers hindering parents' involvement in monitoring students'
performance in the Philippine context?
2. What strategies can be implemented to enhance parents' involvement in monitoring
students' performance?
3. What impact does increased parental involvement in monitoring have on students'
academic performance and overall engagement?

Methodology:
1. Literature Review: A comprehensive review of existing literature on parental involvement
in monitoring students' performance will be conducted to gain insight into current practices,
challenges, and strategies.
2. Surveys: Surveys will be administered to parents and teachers to understand their
perspectives on current barriers and opportunities for increased involvement.
3. Focus Group Discussions: Small group discussions will be held with parents, teachers,
and students to gather qualitative data on their experiences, suggestions, and concerns.
4. Intervention Implementation: Based on the findings from the literature review and data
collected, specific interventions will be designed and implemented to enhance parental
involvement in monitoring students' performance.
5. Data Analysis: The collected data will be analyzed using qualitative and quantitative
analysis techniques to identify patterns, themes, and changes in parental involvement and
students' performance.

Expected Results:
1. Identification of barriers: The research aims to identify existing barriers that prevent
parents from actively monitoring their children's academic progress, such as lack of
communication channels, time constraints, or cultural factors.
2. Effective strategies: The study aims to propose strategies that can be adopted by schools
and parents to enhance parental involvement in monitoring, including regular
communication, parent-teacher conferences, and the use of technology.
3. Improved student outcomes: The research expects to demonstrate the positive impact of
increased parental involvement on students' academic performance, motivation, and overall
engagement in school.

Conclusion:
This action research seeks to maximize parents' involvement in monitoring students'
performance in Philippine schools. By addressing current barriers and implementing
effective strategies, this study aims to foster a cooperative and supportive educational
environment that will ultimately contribute to improved student outcomes. The results of this
research can inform educational institutions, policymakers, and parents on how to
strengthen the collaboration between home and school in the context of the Philippines.
