1. Brake lining wear sensor
For disc brakes, brake lining wear sensors with spring-cushioned pins are used. The brake lining
wear sensor is only supplied with voltage during braking. The brake lining wear sensor then
transmits a wear-dependent or adjustment-dependent voltage to the axle modulator. The voltage
is measured at the end of an electrical braking operation. The measured value is transmitted via
the CAN data bus "Brake" to Y264 axle modulator at the rear axle for evaluation and to Y353 axle
modulator at the 2nd axle for articulated buses. Depending on the measuring principle used, the
value may be influenced by the wear of the brake disc.
Y264 axle modulator on the rear axle and Y353 axle modulator on the 2nd axle do not distinguish
between lining wear and disc wear. If the permissible residual thickness of the brake lining is
undershot, Y264 axle modulator on the rear axle controls the brake system. The fault message
“Brake lining wear" appears on the display.
The brake lining wear control calculates the correction values for the brake pressure for each axle.
In order to harmonise brake lining wear and extend lining life, the sum of brake pressures must be
kept constant. There is no regulation for each individual wheel.KBE_GRM-ESS2.:Wabeo_8999_K0001 Version: 1.0 Page: 25, [o-68)

User tip
Check the brake lining wear sensor for disconnection, short circuit and short circuit to ground
Check the pulse wheel for deformation, damage, dirt.
Check the wheel bearing of the
Check whether there are any impermissible vibrations in the area of the wheel brake.
Check whether there are any impermissible vibrations in the area of the speed sensor holder.
Check the speed sensor and the sensor holder (distance between pulse wheel and sensor).
Check the voltage output of the sensor to make sure it is not too low. The voltage level depends on
the speed and the air gap between the sensor and the increment wheelKBE_GRM-ESS2.:Wabeo_8999_KO001 Version: 1.0 Page: 515 [os-68)
If one or more values deviate from the other comparison values, this sensor must be replaced.
