1. Why did man invent language?
Humans invented language to communicate with each other more effectively. It
helped them share ideas, express feelings, and coordinate actions. Language allowed early
humans to collaborate, teach, learn, and pass on knowledge, leading to the development of
societies and cultures.
2. What is/are the importance of language in Nursing Profession?
Language is crucial in the nursing profession for effective communication between
nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals. Clear communication ensures accurate
sharing of medical information, treatment plans, and patient needs, leading to better patient
care and outcomes. Additionally, language proficiency allows nurses to provide emotional
support, educate patients about their health conditions and treatment options, and build trust
with patients and their families.

3. What are the general features of language?


Language is characterized by arbitrariness, productivity, displacement, cultural
transmission, duality of patterning, creativity, and multifunctionality. It involves using sounds
or words to convey meaning, creating new sentences endlessly, discussing things beyond the
present context, passing down through cultures, combining meaningless units into meaningful
ones, generating novel expressions, and serving various communication purposes such as
expressing emotions and conveying information.
4. Discuss the three science of language.
Linguistics, the science of language, comprises phonetics/phonology,
syntax/morphology, and semantics/pragmatics. Phonetics deals with speech sounds, syntax
studies sentence structure, and semantics examines meaning. Pragmatics explores language
use in context. These areas collectively elucidate language's structure, meaning, and function.

B. LOGIC, VALIDITY AND TRUTH

1. Distinguish truth from falsity and give an example.
Truth refers to statements that align with reality, while falsity denotes statements that
do not. For instance, "The sun rises in the east" is true, whereas "The moon is made of
cheese" is false.
2. Give atleast 4 importance of studying logic.
Studying logic is crucial for sharpening critical thinking, problem-solving, enhancing
communication skills, and achieving academic success across various disciplines.
3. What is/are the the relationship between Truth and Validity?
The relationship between truth and validity lies in logic and argumentation. Validity
refers to the soundness of reasoning within an argument, meaning that the conclusion
logically follows from the premises. Truth, on the other hand, pertains to the accuracy or
correctness of the statements or propositions within the argument. An argument can be valid
without necessarily being true if its premises are false. However, for an argument to be both
valid and sound, it must have true premises and a valid logical structure, ensuring that the
conclusion is true based on the premises provided.
