CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Leadership skills are an essential component in positioning

executives to make thoughtful decision about their organization’

s mission and goals, and properly allocate resources to achieve

those directives. Valuable leadership skills include the ability

to delegate, inspire and communicate effectively. Leadership is a

learned behavior that comes with many attributes. Leadership

skills are the strengths and abilities individuals demonstrate

that help to oversee process, guide initiatives and steer their

students or members towards the achievement of goals. Bergendahl,

M., Magnusson, M., & Bjork, J. (2015)).

Furthermore, leadership skills are skills you use when

organizing other people to reach a shared goal. Whether you’re in

a management position or leading a project in school, leadership

skills require you to motivate others to complete a series of

tasks, often according to a schedule. Leadership is not just one

skill but rather a combination of several different skills

working together. Effective leaders are essential to any team or

organization. They can help build strong teams within a business

and ensure projects, initiatives or other work functions are

1
performed successfully. Good leaders have strong interpersonal

and communication skills, and anyone can become one by learning

how to exercise and hone leadership abilities. Taylor, B. M.

(2015).

Moreover, competence is the ability to do something

successfully or efficiently. And you can do something well,

capable of performing a task or job effectively. Competence can

include the knowledge and skills needed to solve a quadratic

equation or situational framework. Taylor, B. M. (2015).

Therefore, leadership competencies are leadership skills and

behaviors that contribute to superior performance. By using a

competence-based approach to leadership, organizations can better

identify and develop their next generation of leaders. Essential

leadership competencies and global competencies trends and

strategy should drive the development of new leadership

competencies. Osteraker, M. C. (2014).

Similarly, some student leaders in Panitan National High

School are not responsible enough or having difficulty to lead

their group because of lack communication, participation and

cooperation from the members.

importance of imagination to drive thinking and learning forward,

and for teacher to provide opportunities for students to suspect

judgement, engage in the playful consideration of possibilities,

and doubtful possibilities.
